White Truffle season begins in Piedmont

per gram I don't know - but two little truffles, a little larger than a grape but smaller than a walnut (together about the size of a large walnut) set me back 19 Euros. One was enough for 4 of us to put on our eggs for dinner. The other one might make it into some risotto or polenta tomorrow. They smelled good, looked fresh, and I had a 20Euro bill in my pocket - so I bought them.

The best way to eat white truffles - - over a fried egg on toast. Yum!!!
Bought a single truffle in Alba today - had some tajarin pasta with sage and butter, my wife had risotto with porcini - we shared a bottle of Nebbiolo from Castellinaldo, and settled on a simple dinner tonight once we got home. All in all - a fantastic day.

We have lived here for two years, and we've eaten at many of the great places mentioned above - Bovio, Belvedere, and Il Vigneto in Roddi stand out, in our opinions. In fact - you can't go wrong with just about anyplace called "Ristorante" or "Osteria" in the region. If forced to pick - I'd go with Bovio in LaMorra - on a clear day - it's downright perfect.
We're planning to eat lunch at l'Osteria Vignaiolo in Santa Maria / La Morra tomorrow - we'll tell you how it goes... unless we find another hidden gem.
