We are having the service Saturday around 11. So the reception would be around 12:30ish. I have talked to a few restaurants that are willing to open up for us.

Hello all,
I am helping to plan a reception after a memorial service for around 100 people. The service is at Mr. Auburn Cemetary. I have talked to some caterers, and a few venues; @ mt. auburn (expensive to rent) and the new VFW in Cambridge (unfortunately booked).
We are open to restaurants, halls or other ideas. We would like to stay around $2000 if possible for a light luncheon (sandwiches, salad, cookies and non-alcoholic drinks).
Any ideas would be wonderful.

Sandwiches and Fresh Bread?
Try Appleton Bakery on the corner of Appleton and Dartmouth. A 5 min. walk from the Dartmouth exit of Copley Mall. They have delish sandwiches on homemade bread - not positive about multigrain but it's always good. Also the South End Buttery has great sandwiches... but it's a bit further into the South End than Appleton. Enjoy!
Best Mac & Cheese
Out with some friends last Friday, both couples split orders of mac & cheese at Parish Cafe and loved it! Topped with Gruyere (can't spell...) it was HOT, pasta cooked just right and cheesy without being super greasy. Yummmm :)

I believe the Stop&Shop will deliver through their PeaPod service. The store is actually in Watertown but I checked with a zipcode and it looks like they'll supply Belmont.

Bad service at Gaslight
Wow, I'm disappointed! We went to Gaslight on recommendations from friends back in October and we had an absolutely wonderful evening. Our server was attentive, and helpful and it was packed (on a Saturday night). We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals - if I remember correctly my husband had Veal and I had the duck confit.
I hope that the experiences here on this thread are not becoming the norm at Gaslight!!
Boston Coffee Roasters
I also had been looking for good roasters around here. I was spoiled when I was in CT by http://www.thecoffeetrade.com/ Coffee Trade in Avon. They roast all their own and have a wide variety of light/medium/dark roasts. It's a small mom & pop type place but they have the best coffee!! They do phone or internet orders and have a coffee club (buy 12 lbs, get one free). They are wonderful people who do NOT burn their coffee. I know it's not "local" but they are better than I've found here.
Any reports on Stone Hearth Pizza, Cambridge?
We had SHP last night from the Belmont loc. Pizza was ok, we did a create your own for take out. I noticed when I picked up the pizza that they sit it on an open-air rack if you're not there as soon as it's ready. Then they put it back in the oven while they ring you up and get the box prepared. IMHO this makes the crust much soggier (esp. in the middle) plus, since it sat out of the oven (or a heater) it was cold by the time I got it home (5 min car ride).
I'd try it again, maybe if we eat there, or if I get there before it's ready so it has no time to sit on the rack.

Scuba - you might want to look at Aquitaine's sister restaurant "Gaslight". Also in the South End, on Harrison (near Waltham). Excellent French menu - and they have parking right next door.
Where to Buy Pumpkin Pie?
I just got home from my first trip to Wilson Farm in Lexington... they were handing out samples of their homemade Pumpkin Pie. MMMMMM Delish!! It was so good. I didn't end up buying one b/c my hubby won't eat it. He will eat pumpkin cheesecake - which they also had and I got 2 slices for tonight.
On a side note, I also grabbed a 1/2 doz. of their cider donuts... not the best. They are edible and fine but, the cider doesn't come through and they had very little cinn/sugar on the outside.

As promised... we wound up at Doyle's. My husband and I had Ruben sandwiches - mmm delish! And I wish that I had substituted for the sweet potato fries (way better than the regular steak fries). Oh well, maybe next time! Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll keep them in mind for another day when we venture back out to JP. :)

Lunch place between S. Norwalk & New Haven
Hi! Some friends and I are planning on having a late lunch on Friday somewhere between South Norwalk & New Haven... I am coming from north of Hartford and they'll be in S.Norwalk for a visit in the morning. Any help would be great!! Ahh one small side - there will be a 2 yr. old with us :) so a kid-friendly spot would be wonderful!

Fame: I did read your post. But the negativity was so overwhelming that the few positives that you mention aren't loud enough.

It's so sad that you think poorly of the Pioneer Valley. It must suck to live somewhere and hate all the food. It sounds like you are missing a few places along the way... here are some suggestions. For Ice Cream - try Flavors in Hadley (behind the malls on Rt.9 at the Farm). For Japanese try Goten in Sunderland. Breakfast, (if still open) The Roadhouse in Belchertown (on Rt.9). Fresh Pasta Bistro in Noho for Italian.
One more thought - Rao's former owner (and roaster) opened Esselon Cafe on 9 so that he could roast the beans on the premises. So, the coffee should be good if you have been supported Rao's in the past.
Good luck - I hope you find somewhere you can enjoy.
