Best southern-fried chicken in the Greater Boston area?

Red Eye Pig is in West Roxbury and the smoky fried chicken used to be fairly decent. Unfortunately, they have taken a sharp turn for the worse in recent months (having changed ownership). It is disappointing.

Authentic Mexican restaurant recommendations?

Slightly out of your range, but I am a fan of Rincón Mexicano on Broadway in Somerville. Also very basic inside with several small tables. I work nearby and have had several really good lunches there. The guacamole is freshly made and certainly the best I have had in Boston.

Shaw's > Star

Hmm...I live in West Roxbury and we still have a Shaw's right down the street. There have been some minor changes in the market, but really just around shifting the aisles where goods are located and an expanded prepared foods section.

Best Steakhouse in Boston-60th birthday

I'd vote for Grill 23.

Good, inexpensive food in JP/Roxbury/Roslindale?

Hi, I live in West Roxbury and I would recommend the Real Deal for cheap, good American/pizza take-out (as well as Sugar for dessert) and Phuket for decent, local Thai.

For something a little more pricey - but not outrageously so - you should check out the Masona Grill on Corey Street. Good wine list, interesting, creative food that is not uber expensive.
