Alcachofa's Profile
[Stonington] Noah's
I'm a huge fan of Noah's. I would have recommended that you stick to local seafood items. They make one of my very favorite chowders in the country. Also, though they are OK at lunch, like many places, it is best at dinner. The "disparate" range may have had to do with the fact that there is definitely a Portuguese influence. (The Portuguese were among the first to fish in New England, and there is also a decent-sized Portuguese community in New England generally, and among the fishers.) Though that doesn't explain the "Mexican" fish...
I haven't been back since last summer, however, so hopefully this isn't a downhill alert.
Where to eat lunch in downtown Boston?
That would be awesome.
'wino, did you ever do the lunch buffet at Mantra? When I went there was a guy at one end of the buffet that would put together this bowl of ... stuff. Grains, nuts, stuff like that, I think. Not hot, room temp, iirc. Memory fails me now. But it was as spicy as you wanted it, and super good. I'm no expert on Indian food, so have no idea what to call it. I want some.
May 2012 Openings and Closings
You must have enjoyed the Google doodle today, "Jenny".
A Game of Either Or
Sorry, maybe I sounded harsh. They're not bad cookies. They're good enough that I do think everyone should give 'em a go at least once. I just think that a lot of non-hounds are more impressed with the novelty than the taste. "Oh! A homemade Oreo cookie! How cool!"
A Game of Either Or
Do YOU like the oreos? I do like the sticky bun, and enjoyed some other stuff there, but thought the Oreos were a big YAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWN. Seriously, I'd rather have an original Oreo than one from Flour. I'm not joking.
To kiki: Druid over Dooley's by a mile, for the food. However, it isn't really close to anything. Dooley's food is standard--nothing to write home about, but not bad either.
Casa Romero?
Papagayo is no good. I am interested in hearing where you heard it was interesting. I would definitely go to Romero over Papagayo. I would look at Temezcal and Rosa Mexicano also. Haven't been to either one, but a party of 10 will be tough anywhere else. Again, don't go to Papagayo.
Rosa Mexicano coming to Boston
Walked by yesterday. According to the sign scotch-taped to the door, tonight (Tuesday) is opening night.
Casa Romero?
I don't think I understand your question. The reason other, non-taqueria restaurants are not discussed is because no one's found any good ones. (Although, in addition to the two you mention, Zocalo has been mentioned for doing fairly well with the basics, and, I've never been, but Mexico Lindo in Melrose gets half-decent reviews as well.)
If, therefore, taquerias get discussed more since that is where the better Mexican chow is, I don't think that makes it a "focus" of the board. The focus is to find the good, wherever it exists.
Park Cambridge
With a name like Park, it's gonna be tough to do a search--either here or on the general internet. Why didn't they give it a name like, I don't know... Mxyplyxit? Wooooooo!
Need some suggestions for Boston dining
No problem about the typos, looks like you did some good eatin'.
P.S. For cheese, Formaggio is better than Zabar's. ;-)
Black Fig Vodka
Weird, because they distribute some good wine. Odd diversification choice, but I'm sure it makes money.
Black Fig Vodka
I believe MS Walker is a distributor, not a producer. So, I don't know if the information you just gave is correct at all. But, yes, probably better just to infuse some yerself.
Are my picks okay?
"Breakfast... places with terrific coffee and some delicious baked goods."
Thinking Cup, on Tremont St
the cafe in Post Office Square Park (sorry, forgot the name) EDIT: I believe the name is "Sip"
I am not a fan of the coffee at Flour, but if you could somehow logistically figure out how to have coffee from Barrington Coffee on Congress St, which is steps away from the Flour on Farnsworth St, that would be a nice breakfast. I think I would get the coffee first, then go to Flour and eat my sticky bun there.
Need a dive bar with really good food in Downtown Boston
Mine too. Mirrors but no windows iirc.
Need a dive bar with really good food in Downtown Boston
Possibly, but that's not what I was saying.
Need a dive bar with really good food in Downtown Boston
I've been to the Crow's Nest! No one was thrown. It was not as bad, in my experience, as that place near the Revere T stop, or even the Tam. More along the lines of Beacon Hill Pub, in dive-ness (without the throng of 21 year olds, obviously).
I'm not sure what brought "hipsters" into the mix. And I disagree with jgg's explication that somehow they are behind the "faux dive" movement. Love 'em or hate 'em, and mock-worthy as they sometimes can be, they are behind some really good food.
Where is the best thin pizza in Metro West
Sorrento's is passable if you have a pizza itch, but is no where near the "best" anything.
Surprising Menu Items That Steal the Show
Those Mobil peanuts don't beat the ones I got from some guy with a cardboard sign on the entry ramp of I-85, son.
Boston trip report - March 21-25 (long).
NOICE!
I take it you like dumplings.
Coppa regulars: do they have the bone marrow pizza at lunch?
Hook's Lobster Roll
Well, stick to the lobster roll, even untoasted.
I had the lobster mac n cheese and the fish chowder last night. Both were subpar.
The fish chowder was especially disappointing. I thought "fish chowder" was code for "this is the real chowder, not the overly thick glop tourists expect from clam chowder." But, while the fish in the soup was good (though EXTREMELY few pieces), the chowder itself was REALLY thick and gloppy, way gloppier than Legal's. Disappointing.
The lobster mac n cheese looked like they mixed some very good lobster with some Annie's. And tasted about the same. Way too rich, also.
Maybe I'll try the lobster bisque. That seems harder to do wrong, perhaps. Not going to be rushing back for that, thought. Wish I just got the roll!
Hook's Lobster Roll
That's always been my gripe, too. But, for the price, I wasn't complaining. That's good news. Also, I think I know what I'm having for dinner tonight.
Cool vibe restaurant in Boston- Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch
"I come to Boston often and would like to try something else."
If that's the case, it would be helpful if you listed some of the places you've been and what you liked/didn't like about them.
Pizza slices: variety & high quality?
I'd go to Ernesto's before Il Panino Express. Subject to the caveats everyone else has already made about timing, etc.
The OP should check out Crazy Dough's as well.
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
Lines out the door today at 3PM, and it's not exactly a fair-weather day.
