I tried Stinky's just a few days ago and was totally underwhelmed by the food. My co eater and I started with the BBQ shrimp appetizer. It was ok, nothing to write home about. Although the shrimps were cooked well (not over cooked and chewy), they over did the amount of lemon juice in the dish. For the entree, we tried the crawfish pie (which has crawfish etouffee in it) and the fried oyster basket. Having just been to New Orleans the past month, I can say that the crawfish etouffee in the pie was NOT etouffee at all. Very disappointing. My fried oyster basket was about the same as any fried oyster basket, except for the price.

To be honest, having heard such great remarks about Stinky's by Chowhounds, I was expecting a culinary delight. Instead, I had mediocre food at more than mediocre prices.

Considering visiting NOLA next week, is the food safe and recommendations?

Just a question about your comment about not getting as many as you wanted. Are they limiting the portion size for the seafood or just limiting the amount of plates of, say shrimp or oysters, that you can order?

Considering visiting NOLA next week, is the food safe and recommendations?

Considering that the economic impact of the spill has damaged the reputation of the seafood industry, I don't think that it is "such a stupid question" to ask. That's why I'm asking here to get some first hand information about the food situation. But thanks for your input nonetheless though I hope the stores and restaurants in NO are a bit more friendly than you.

Considering visiting NOLA next week, is the food safe and recommendations?

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. My parents are more into the mid-level restaurants and eateries so those will probably get the majority of the visits. I checked out the menu of Mr. B's and looked at some of the pictures on their website. From what everyone has been saying, it looks as though it's a good spot to dine. How's the dress code for that restaurant?

Considering visiting NOLA next week, is the food safe and recommendations?

My parents have been wanting to visit NOLA for a while now. First it was Katrina, now the BP spill. Anyway, I might be taking them there next week, but they are concerned about "tainted" Gulf seafood. So for those living in or have recently been to NOLA, how was the food? Any problems in supply of seafood? Should they be worried about it? If we decide to go, any recommendations? They are fairly casual eaters so higher end cuisine is probably something they wouldn't want to try too much. But they really want to try the local flavors. One place that they want to try is Deanie's. Is that place any good? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

CURRENT Tallahassee restaurants

I just went to Siam Sushi for lunch today. It is the newly opened Thai-Japanese restaurant in the old Hopkins Eatery location next to the Publix on N. Monroe St. I went at 12:30 for lunch and it wasn't packed, but there were at least 8 parties inside. Even with such a low number of tables, service was incredibly slow. It took at least 5 minutes after seating for a waitress to actually come to my table to ask if I wanted a beverage. It took another 5-8 minutes before she came back to take my order. Apparently I was not the only one that noticed their lack of service. The people that were seated after us almost walked out after waiting at their table for at least 10 minutes before someone came to take their order. Ok, enough about service, on to the food. The Chicken Satay appetizer that I ordered was mediocre at best. The entree was better. I ordered a red curry chicken dish which was pretty enjoyable. I didn't get a chance to try their Japanese dishes, but I may if I feel adventurous and have a lot of time to kill. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this place. If they don't get their act together, I expect that it will fold up in a few months.

Tallahassee: Seminole Wind (a scratch-cooked Southern buffet) opens today

I just tried this place tonight and I'll have to agree with some of the comments made on this thread. The buffet wasn't that big nor was there enough variety in the food offered. For the entree portion of the meal, there were only about 3 items that were not deep fried. The mashed potatoes appeared to be made from a mix and if it wasn't for the fact that the gravy was of a different color and viscosity, I could not have been able to tell it apart from the mashed potatoes. There was a desert bar, however, from eating all of the fried food, I was in some gastrointestinal distress and preferred a bottle of Pepto instead of dessert. Like others, this is probably the last time I will enter this establishment.

Has anyone tried Kiku Japanese Fusion located next to Bonefish Grill. How does it compare to Kitcho and Sakura? I'm pretty curious about it, but haven't had a chance to sample their food.

Kiku Japanese Fusion in Tallahassee?

I was at the Publix plaza on Thomasville road yesterday and saw a new (at least new to me) Japanese sushi restaurant called Kiku. I was in a rush, so I didn't get a chance to sample their cuisine. Has anyone tried their food and can provide some feedback? How does it compare next to Sakura and Kitcho (two of my favorite sushi places in town)?

Hopkins Eatery in Tallahassee

Hopkins did move to a different location within the same shopping plaza. It is currently on the south side of the plaza, next to the Secret Pantry, I believe.

Piggy's BBQ on Capital Circle, Tallahassee

After reading all of these comments, I decided to try Piggy's after work tonight and ordered the beef brisket platter with corn casserole and garlic mash potatoes. For the price, the portions were average (I received about 3 slices of the brisket). As far as the brisket was concerned, it was a little dry for my taste and the amount of smoke on the meat was light. The sides were about a half a cup each. The garlic mash potatoes were ok, nothing really to write home about. However, the corn casserole was quite tasty. Overall, my meal was ok. I might go back to try the ribs if I'm on that side of town again.
