Foodie in St. Martin - please help

Thank you - recommendations are much appreciated. I didn't realize the drive to Grand Case is that long....is that an easy drive at least? Thanks again.

Foodie in St. Martin - please help

Thank you. How far is Grand Case from Dawn Beach? How about Marigot?
I'm looking at the tripadivsor, and seems like travel time can be up to 40 min...is this correct?
Thanks

Foodie in St. Martin - please help

We are going to the Coral Beach Club (Dawn Beach) mid-may with 2 other couples. We are serious foodies. Our friends, not so much :-). Looking for reccomendations on the BEST places you have eaten in (please consider food, atmosphere and proximity to Dawn Beach) for under $150/couple. Is that even doable in St. Martin?

So the question is - what is the best of the best for under $150? We will have a car.

Recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Post philarmonic dining on saturday night

We are open to French, Italian, contemporary American. I am thinking dinner reservation at 11pm. So far, I am considering DB Moderne, but from reviewing this board, it hasn't received the most positive reviews. Been to Eleven Madison before and absolutely loved it. Their last seating is 10 pm unfortunately.
Thank you Kathryn.

Post philarmonic dining on saturday night

We will be attending the Mahlers symphony at the avery fisher hall next saturday. It starts at 8 pm. Any suggestions on upscale dining after ( price not an issue) are much appreciated. We do not mind taking a cab for a great dinner! Food and atmosphere are equally important ( we are in our early 30's)

All feedback is greatly appreciated

London trendy restaurants/bars/lounges

Looks like Aqua Kyoto is also closed on Sunday. What to do??

London trendy restaurants/bars/lounges

I am now researching Aqua Kyoto - we love Japanese food, is London the place to do it? Atmosphere sounds great. What is open on Sundays? Open Tavern is closed, St. John is closed for dinner. Recommendations?

Foodie in Rome - please help!

Will be in Rome after visiting London and the Amalfi Coast for a few days in Sept. If you were to choose one place that has great food and atmosphere, what would it be? We are not looking to do Michelin Stars since will be 'michelined out' in London. Would love a great, authentic restaurant that would suit a special occasion. Price is not a consideration.
Much appreciated!

London trendy restaurants/bars/lounges

I would also appreciate recommendations on any theatre shows. Again, so much choice. We love classical music, but open to concerts. We'll be there Sept 3-6. Thank you

London trendy restaurants/bars/lounges

Although a lot has been posted on this topic, I was hoping fellow foodies could help us. We are in our early 30's and consider ourselves foodies. Going to London next week and made reservation at the Dorchester (worth it? feedback?). This will be our fine dining experience out of the 3 nights we'll have in London. The other 2 nights want a more laid back atmosphere and ideally would like to go to a trendy restaurant that may have bar/lounge to have after dinner drinks/music. We'll be in Mayfair but willing to travel. So fellow chowhounders, what would you recommend? I've emailed the Opera Tavern for reservation but otherwise seems like there is almost too much choice - please help!!! Thanks in advance.

LCBO - "Wines of the old world" class - any reccomendations?

Thank you - I think we are better off having a nice dinner with wine pairings!!

LCBO - "Wines of the old world" class - any reccomendations?

Hello foodies,

Considering taking the wifey to one of these as a Bday present...It's $110/person and inlcudes wine tastings from France, Italy & Spain (no food pairings through). It's not clear which specific wines will be tasted...

Has anyone tried this or similar classes? If so, could you pls chime in with feedback and let me know which location you've tried (i hear quality of experience varies by location)

Many thanks.

Napa and Sonoma Wineries itinerary + restaurant help for foodies

Thanks ChefJune. Much appreciated. Now I'm thinking of skipping lunch all together and have a picnic instead.
Are there any good breakfasts spots? We really enjoy a nice breakfast - great start to the day ;-)

Napa and Sonoma Wineries itinerary + restaurant help for foodies

Hello,

First and foremost, I'd like to thank this board for the wealth of information and advice provided. It is invaluable.

My husband and I will be travelling to Napa for the first time at the beginning of September. Although we can definitely appreciate a fine bottle of wine, we are by no means wine experts. We'll be staying in Napa for 2 full days (Marriott) and were hoping to spend one day in Napa and one day in Sonoma. We don't like to rush through many wineries and would also like to have a nice lunch in one of the wineries. So far the plan is as follows:
Day 1 - Napa
Breakfast at Auberge du Soleil
Roundpond
Jarvis
Dariush
Outpost
Rombauer
Chimney Rock

From the above list, what would be your recommendations re order of visit and which wineries we should eliminate? We do like Zins and Pinots. Also looking for nice views and scenery. Which winery would be best suited for lunch?

Day 2 - Sonoma
Where should we have breakfast?
Hartford
Lynmar
Rochioli
Gary Farrell

Same questions as for day 1.

With regards to dinner reservations, we decided to forego the FL. Made reservation at Meadowood for one of the nights. Need to accomodate 2 more nights - what would be your recommendations? Looked in Redd, Ad Hoc etc.

Thank you in advance!

1 night in Vancouver

Thanks very much - will definitely choose one of these.

1 night in Vancouver

Hello Vancouver foodies,

Can you please reccomend a nice dinner spot for a Toronto hound.

There will be 5 of us (2 couples in early 30s and a 7 yr old) and we love suhsi/fusion as well as French cusisine. We'd prefer a nicer place with a good vibe, but not super formal/stuffy.

Also, looking for a Sunday brunch spot.

Unfortunately, we will only have 1 night in Vancouver (leaving for Alaskan cruise next day), but wanted to make the best of it.

We will be staying near Granville Island Public Market.

Thanks!

BA & Mendoza restaurant review

Just came back from Argentina and wanted to share some feedback with the rest of the foodies.

First of all, thank you to everyone for the recommendations, as most of them were very good!

Buenos Aires

Parillas:

La Cabrera - touristy, but excellent meat and friendly services. nice location in Palermo Soho. very reasonable - around $70US for two with wine.

Don Julio - similar to La Cabrera, but a bit more rustic and slightly cheaper. Very comfortable recommending this place for a casual dinner.

Cabana Las Lilos - a bit fancier than the other two. located on the water in Puerto Madero. Also excellent meat, complimentary appetizers and dessert. Prices are 20-30% higher than La Cabrera/Don Julio. Monster wine list!

Osaka - one of the best non-meat dinners! Japanese with Peruvian twists. serious sushi buffs might be disappointed with limited selection of fish (tuna was not available), but we didn't mind. the place was happening and not touristy at all. this dinner was a bit pricey at $130US$ for two, including 1 beer and 1 martini (no wine).

Club 647 - having read rave reviews, our expectations were quite high... the major issue with this place was the fact that it was EMPTY (1 more couple in addition to us in a place with 100+ guest capacity) on a Saturday night around 10-11pm. this was very odd, considering that this is supposed to be one of the best restos in town. food was OK, but very forgettable.

Piegari - excellent Italian place in Recoleta (near the Four Seasons). portions are meant to be shared. highly recommended.

Park Hyatt - we went for lunch and thought it was a good spot: both food (tuna tataki, sushi rolls) and atmosphere (we ate outside, in a very nice garden) were top notch. As one would expect, prices are quite high.

Mendoza

1884 - The best food overall (try mustard-topped steak) and very impressive setting, but we expected better service from a place of this caliber. Quite expensive at $130US for two.

Ruca Malen winery - highly recommended. we stopped by for a 7-course lunch with wine pairing as part of a wine tour and were thoroughly impressed by food and wine selections.

Cavas Wine Lodge - stayed there for 2 nights. perfect honeymoon spot (private house set right in the middle of a vineyard, with your own plunge pool and a terrace with a fireplace). fantastic sunsets. Very expensive, but definitely worth the money!

Food itinieary in Buenos Aires

Thank you for your reccomendations - we definitely want to include genuine Argy food into our trip. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to do this in Mendoza as well as BA.

Food itinieary in Buenos Aires

Thank you for the helpful response!

Does one have to be a member to dine at Maat?

Also, are any of the restuarants on the list far (more than 15 min cab ride) from Palermo Soho?

Food itinieary in Buenos Aires

Hi Foodies,

My wife and I will be travelling to BA in December and staying for 5 nights.

What does everyone think of the following dinner list? We definitely want to sample authentic Argentinian cusiines (parillas, etc.), but also like French, Japanese and Modern/Eclectic styles:

647 Club
La Cabrera
Don Julio
Osaka
Sucre
La Bourgogne

Also,

Any good brunch alternatives (Park Hyat is US$ 70pp!)?
What should we expect to pay for a dinner at La Bourgogne?

Thanks in advance!

Aruba Restuarant Reccomendations

thanks very much, Linda. how much is a dinner for 2 at El Gaucho pre-wine?

Aruba Restuarant Reccomendations

Please Help - B-day Dinner in Vegas

Hi Folks,

I am trying to find a nice spot for my wife's 25th birthday dinner in Vegas.
I've tried searching the Vegas board, but was not able to find anything that caught my eye...

If it was Toronto, I'd want to go to something like a Celestin, Amuse Bouche, George or Nectar.

Anything similar in Vegas??

All-in budget (incl. tax and tip) is up to $200 per couple +$50 bottle of wine.

Thai in North York

Thanks! Thai bistro is pretty good!

Scaramouche closing/moving???

The building has been converted already and units are populated. I've heard nothing to indicated that i might close. I think resdients like the resto!

Thai in North York

Hi Folks,

I've been getting my thai take-out fix from Lotus Thai (Yonge/Steeles)...but they recently went out of busines...Any reccomendations for thai within Dufferin-Bayview-Sheppard-Steeles quadrant, preferrably with delivery??

Many thanks

Alternative to Auberge du Pommier?

can't go wrong with Celestin or Scaramouche, but also consider Amuse-Bouche

Reccomendation for a nice, romantic dinner in TO?

Been to George - liked it. But want to try smthg new. Heard that Perigee is trying to be too cool, at the expense of service (i.e. one would expect flawless service at that type of $$$, but sometimes it's not up to par)
