The Watch Factory is still fantastic I have been there in the last two months. The food is Austrian but very similar and they have fantastic specials!

For sandwiches the Funcky Monkey is great!

Chinese drive over the southington right in front of the Showcase is a China Gourmet! HANDS down the best Chinese in the area! try the orange beef! and get teh buckwheat noodles.

The sushi at Toyo south of Rt 10 is very fresh and yummy.

Any German restaurants in the Hartford area?

The Watch Factory Restaurant in Cheshire. technically Austrian, but fantastic schnitzel, PP, Spetzel etc. I frequently get the jeager schnitzle - yum! We also LOVE love love the chef specials!!!! if you like chocolate do not miss the chocolate mousse.

Also the atmosphere is very nice, the wood work was done by the chef and his family and frequently you are served by family. This place is NOT kitchy at all. Call for a reservation to be safe.

New Haven RW - Heirloom

We went with friends last night and I have to give it over all a thumbs up. I am tough to please too, especially on RW where they typically cheap down the menu and pre-prepare and rush you thru. BUT we did not have that experience at Heirloom.

Our reservations were at 7:30pm we were seated promptly at a table for 7 and the service was attentive but not annoyingly so - never felt rushed to turn the table over. I had the Maine Crab Cake, Pork Chop, and Sorbet.

A quick note about their wine list, they had some great bottles and a decent selection of bottles for under 50$ both in the white and red category I recognized numerous bottles so they are definitely buying with the wine mags in mind. We had a Malbec from Chile (Mendoza) that was great and the rest of the table shared an oaked Chard out of the williment valley.

the crab cake was perfectly prepared, nice crispy exterior, moist tender inside - not to mayonnaise or over spiced perfect. the only problem I had was it was TINY the size of a large scallop. My Husbands Wedge salad was also good - simple with a blue cheese dressing that was light but not too light. **I felt his was the better portion!!!

The pork Chop was fantastic! it had a cider glaze that was out of this world. the Meat was juicy and tender not at all dry. I suspect they brined them :) it was served with braised greens and sweet potato cubes. the tastes perfectly blended. Again though, while the chop was a great size the veggies were miniscule and definitely left me hungry.

Dessert was raspberry and mango sorbet for me very nice, not too sweet and great texture. Ken had the "Bulldog" brownie and it was good but I think my brownies are better lol.

Afterwards we hung out in the bar at Bespoke - had some very yummy drinks and I had their Carpaccio ap. because I was hungry lol

Firebox in Hartford

Kattyeyes, the lunch at firebox is great you should go. it is a perfect way to the try the restaurant for "cheaper" just make sure to put aside some time since I haven't ever gotten out of there in under an hour.

As for the Dinner menu, we find that it seems to be hit or miss sometimes. but the food is genuinly repaired the servvice in our experience has always been good and we like the space so we keep going back.

3 meals in Portland with the kids

I have to put a vote in for Duck fat - everytime I visit portland I make a point to stop there. I love love love it. and I also love their pannini w/marscapone and blueberry jam....mmmmmm....

I haven't been to Sillys, but loved Susan's fish and chips.

Hartford, CT: little Jamaican beef patties- These things were SOOOOOOOO good!

in middletown i'd go for jerkfish before pattie palace its more like the jamaican you'd get in hartford

Great reivew!

Florida Hound Seeking Advice Near Cheshire, CT

Ahhh Cheshire - not really a hopping culinary destination :) but if you need Lunch or a light dinner, The Funky Monkey is good.

Do not Miss Sweet Claudes
I agree that the watchfactory is excellent but not moderately priced.

leaving Cheshire -
Great pub food at J TImothy's in Plainville just good food period. and a good selection of beer on tap
I love to eat out in new haven though not many of the establishments I like are "new england food" or moderately priced.

For Hartford -
try Firebox- this is solid local food and I haven't had a bad meal there yet.
The Max establishments are always spot on (Trumbull Kitchen and Max)
Bin 228 is affordable and good.

for leaf peeping you may want to check out Craig Castle in Meriden, lots of photo opportunities in Hubbard park!

for a longer drive anything where up in the northwest corner of the state is awesome!!! (Rt 8 north) you could even wlak some of the appalachian trail. you could get some nice NE type shots at Bulls Bridge and falls. Or drive in to the bottom of St. John's ledges (near Kent) and take ssome shots from the bottom or top - from this same spot you could walk along the housatonic river.

enjoy
