Emma's Ale House
I got a turkey burger and the bread was damp/soggy and hot as hell.
I assume this was microwaved?
What got you "into" wine?
So, you ended up drinking booze with a guy who just tried to seduce you. Good work.
Drinking wine in Paris. Any basic guidelines? "do's vs. dont's vs. don't miss"
I am going to Paris for a week.
Recently, I've become a "wine person".
In terms of wine, what can I expect there?
Should I focus on something vs another?
Will there be wines not available in the USA?
Is there an obvious "do's vs. dont's vs. don't miss" ?
I have had plenty of French wine in America, but will it be different there?
Burgundy, Bordeaux, Chablis, Pouilly Fume, Pouilly Fuse, etc.
Need Westchester recommendation ...
Hey folks, thanks for all the various ideas. I appreciate it, and I'll let you know which I decide to go with ...
Peniche does have a nice "communal table" feel. Nice, yet has an informal vibe. That might actually be ideal. I HATE the feeling of being the only group in a place.
Need Westchester recommendation ...
Thanks. Hmm, on 2nd thought, I think I'd like something nicer than the "retail/fast-food" vibe. (Starbucks, Cosi, etc) For me, these places have a subtle implication of quick in-out.
Any ideas more in Southern 914?
White Plains and below....
The more I think about it, I think I'd want a nicer place, but that allows us to hang out. So not a "formal dinner" vibe either. (Done eating yet?)
Hmm, I think I just need a bar vibe.
How about a bar that has large tables??
Bedford Post Inn - Overpriced and undersized
Is Peniche considered a ripoff in terms of what you get?
I like the ambiance of tapas, but think it's a ripoff.
You end up ordering 4 plates that are $10/ea on average.
Yet, I have NEVER ordered a $40 entree!!
Need Westchester recommendation ...
Ok, this is going to be VERY general, so pardon me.
I am meeting 8 people for a "book club" meeting.
The point is not so much the food, but the atmosphere.
Venue can be coffee, happy hour, dinner, etc.
I want a place in Westchester where we can
chat comfortably
and not feel rushed out
not so stuffy where the decorum/waiter distracts from the conversation.
We'd like to be left alone, but also not be the only people in the place.
I also need the same recommendation for a group of 15 people
(which might require a different venue)
Does anything come to mind?
Louis Latour red Burgundy is more earthy than I thought
Louis Latour
Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers (pinot)
2005
$110
Earthy.
Slight tannins.
NOT fruity.
$62 Antinori-Matte Albis Maipo Valley (cabernet) vs. $18 Vignerons de Caractère Vacqueyras Les Hauts du Castellas (GSM)
90
Antinori-Matte Albis Maipo Valley (cabernet)
2004
$62
(Thought it was no different than $10 Cab)
vs.
Vignerons de Caractère Vacqueyras Les Hauts du Castellas (
(GSM) $18
Thought the GSM was much better.
Jammy. Fruity. Acid. Low tannin. Pepper aftertaste?
Louis Latour red Burgundy is more earthy than I thought
This Louis Latour red Burgundy is more earthy than I thought. Not very fruity...
Vaguely reminds me of Bordeaux (without the tannins...)
