Thanks for this. It sounded similar to me too, so I'm waiting to hear if this might be the recipe.

ISO cake recipe from Bon Appetit 1994?

I've searched epicurious.com, but didn't realize you could put the year in as a keyword. I'm going to have to spend some more time on this. Thanks for that suggestion!

ISO cake recipe from Bon Appetit 1994?

I'm looking for a cake recipe that might have been in the May 1994 issue of Bon Appetit. I'm posting on behalf of someone else, so here's what I've been told:
It was a three tiered cake, with each tier a different size. The tiers were cut from a sheet cake instead of baked in separate pans. It was a white or yellow cake, maybe orange infused. Each tier had a filling, probably the same filling. The cake was decorated with rose petals. It was used as a wedding cake, but may not have been meant to be one. The wedding was in July 1994, so the recipe had to have been published before that.

I'm hopeful someone will remember this cake. Thanks!

Guests ducking out for Black Friday (Thursday?!) shopping

Are you bringing this up because football players work on Thanksgiving? I wouldn't compare their pay with Wal-Mart workers. Different situations.

Better after a day or two dessert to bring to Thanksgiving

Truffles are a nice idea. I might do that for my family instead of the in-laws.

This is the winner so far. Sounds right up my alley.

Better after a day or two dessert to bring to Thanksgiving

I'm looking for a side or dessert to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. I'll be leaving town after work Wednesday and we'll be eating at my in-laws on Thursday. I could cook something Wednesday morning, but Tuesday night is more likely. One year I made spoon cookies (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/foo...) that really tasted better a couple days later. Oven space is at a minimum Thanksgiving Day so I'm really looking for something that doesn't need any preparation the day of. I could make something a week ahead and freeze it, but don't have a ton of room in my freezer either. I'd really make to make rolls, but I don't think that's going to work.

Other desserts will be store bought pumpkin pie and maybe a fruit pie. Thanks for any suggestions!

Foods from your childhood that seem laughable now

I haven't thought of that in years! I didn't get juice boxes much, but that stuff was good.

Green Bean Delivery

I've been looking at Green Bean Delivery's website and might be interested in ordering produce and other groceries from them. They deliver to your door in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis, and Louisville. It looks like they have a bin, or you can order items individually. Has anyone tried this?

Roadtrip Toronto to Columbus, OH - recs on scenic drive

I grew up in Mentor, and family still lives there, so I've got some idea of what's around...maybe not the most up to date information though.
Unfortunately, chain restaurants dominate, but we enjoy the Beach Club (http://www.bcbistro.com/) in Concord and Pickle Bill's in Grand River (http://www.picklebills.com/). There's also Molinari's (http://www.molinaris.com/) and Rider's Inn (http://www.ridersinn.com/) but I haven't been to either in a while. There's Hellreigel's, (http://www.hellriegelsinn.com/) but we go there mainly for nostalgia.

freezing doughs

Has anyone tried freezing pizza dough with the toppings on it? I imagine it would work fine, but haven't tried it yet.

Game night finger food with color/vegetables

I'm hosting a game night next week. While planning the menu I noticed everything is so drab. What can I add that will bring some color? I'd like a few veggies or fruit in the mix too.

I'm thinking of serving lebnah rolled in herbs (little color there) with crackers, maybe roasted chickpeas and probably caramel corn. Other snacks may be added, but I haven't decided on them. Drinks will be beer and applejack/cider cocktails. Anything autumn-ish or middle eastern fits well. There's one vegetarian who may be attending. Thanks for any help.

Its 1am and your stomach is growling......

Sometimes you get so hungry there's no way to sleep unless you eat something! Fasting doesn't work unless you want to be awake all night. This happens when I'm running a bunch-even if it's not Michael Phelps level.
