what does it say when a chinese restaurant opens during a down economy, and goes head to head against a number of others chinese restaurants next door. You better be good, or you be squashed. XO is good, not the best, but good or better than the rest. Consistency will determine the outcome, but XO is good

Anytime you get anything with black bean sauce, it will be salty. The black bean comes from a paste that is salted black beans. Sometimes a fresh jar is very salty and you are suppose to use just a little bit, but not all chefs take that in consideration, they put in the usual measurement (a scoopful)

Sorry, I meant Great China on Kittridge, anyway, the peking duck was sub-par. I travel a lot and now I find a quest to find the best Peking Duck in USA. I have been all over the world and travel to the far east twice a year. I am always looking for great chinese food anywhere and try recommended sites. Great China was a disappointment. There was better food in old Chinatown in SF, but to the point there is good food everywhere, you just have to find it. I stumble upon Great Eastern on Jackson, it was great, good service and their BBQ plate with jellyfish was to die for $13.00.

You are right on with your Chinese restaurant reviews. I came from the east coast Washington DC area looking for the best Peking Duck and was highly disappointed with Chowhound suggestion of Great China in Berkley. When I return into SF Chinatown for our last day in SF we stubble upon Great Eastern, and their food and service was great, the BBQ plate with jellyfish was my favorite. Perfect flavor

Go to any Ruth Chris Steakhouse for a great american steak, I have never been disappointed

I follow the duck forum and the Great Wall peking duck was a two out of five stars.Soggy, limp and bland taste skin. The tea smoke duck was much better. We had both, I was very dissapointed after I travel so far to give it a try. As a tourist in a foreign state I relied on these reviews and this place was way off the mark.
