World Series (Wednesday Night) in West LA With 7-year-old

So avoid bars - try Islands on Pico. Plenty of big screens on and is not a "bar".

Not to mention that Sonny's will be an absolute zoo. Good luck finding standing room yet alone a seat in there given the Sox are in the world series. Wouldn't recommend for anyone kid or no kid, unless you are committed to getting there early or like elbow room crowds.

Personally I like that ambiance, really makes the game more enjoyable but definitely not with a kid.

No sure which Father's Office you went to but I've never seen Heinz yet alone any ketchup - in fact they are quite militant about no ketchup.

Kula - Kaiten Sushi on Sawtelle

Its serviceable sushi. Way better than the other places like Sushi Stop of Sushi Mac. Pieces of fish are smaller and thinner sliced but that's to be expected for $2 a plate.

Allumette - fantastic - should be higher on the Chow-dar Screen!

Went there a few months back. Tricky location in my opinion, but Chef Miles is doing some great things there. If this was on the west side he would truly be killing it. My westside bias is coming through as I was non too happy driving out that far - but was glad I did.

California - Mex enchilada sauce

Use dried chili pods and re-hydrate them in water then mix with chicken stock and blend. I typically use Pasillas and Guajillos For some smoke add some Anchos as well. You can de-seed to suit your heat level. If too hot you can add some sour cream.

Yes its that easy.

Banquet Space - 250 People on the Westside (SM or West LA)

The airport itself didn't charge much for its venue - we had to bring in everything ourselves, which is where the cost ran up. We may go back at which point I'll post something about caterers!

Banquet Space - 250 People on the Westside (SM or West LA)

Any suggestions for a venue that can hold about 250 people? Looking for a place for our school's yearly fundraising gala. Last year we did it at the Santa Monica Airport but are looking for alternates. Please keep in mind this is a fundraiser for a public school so we are trying to keep it as cost conscious as possible. Thanks!

DIVINO BRENTWOOD - SUPERB

They basically transferred the Toscana liquor license to the bar since it was going to be extremely hard to get a full liquor license for the area. Just and FYI.

And I think the food at Toscana is far superior to that of Divino. I was left rather unsatisfied on my last trip there. Not heading back there anytime soon.

Giant cookies with sea salt flakes

The cafe at Stella Rossa in Santa Monica sells these. Damn near best chocolate cookie I've ever had.

Indian Lunch close to Westwood Village

I think they are both independently owned. I'm Indian and I only order from India's oven on Wilshire. I even have them cater parties. It's my go to for Indian hands down. Skip the buffet and ask them to make it Indian style, if you can handle the heat!

Hawaiian Punch Light in LA?

I hear you! There was a 2L version of HP light that I used to get for years. Sadly, I haven't seen it on shelves for more than 3 years. it would seem to me that they don't offer it anymore. Makes me sad!

Is Sugarfish Over-Rated?

I think the biggest misnomer is that Sugarfish is "reasonable". To be quite honest - its not. If you order the lunch special at Kiriko its cheaper than the Trust Me. Same amount of food. Now that said, Sugarfish is king of like the Mcdonalds of sushi. Before you scream, let me explain. Basically it can be counted on for it consistency every visit. And it can be found at every location. I'm not calling SF a discount or fast food sushi place.

LA Magazine...Ultimate Sushi Guide...thoughts?

I would strongly disagree about Sushi Park. I haven't been for a year or so - unless its dropped off since then. Totally agree with your other drops though.

ISO cheese shop

Depending on what side of the 405, Andrews Cheese Shop on Montana in Santa Monica has great variety of cheeses. Far more personable that the Cheese Shop IMO....

blues restaurants

Stevie's in Encino. Its very hit or miss with both food and more importantly service, They have live music I believe on Friday and Saturday's. The food is actually quite good if you hit them on the right night. Be prepared for a wait though....

On the west side you can hit the Charleston during the week. Its definitely more jazz flavored. Weekends have a DJ. Its a cool little space that has a really nice lounge space.

Looking for the best steak place on the West side

Pacific Dining Car is beyond a waste of money. you may as well go down to....anywhere else and get their steak. Way past its prime. IMO its almost a front for some other operation....

Looking for the best steak place on the West side

You've got your standards: Mastros, CUT and BOA with CUT probably the best of the three. Wilshire is pretty good as well. Once you are eat Prime Beef its pretty hard to see drastic differences in steak house. CUT provides more Wagyu options though.

Sfixio

I went a while back. Really nice space however it was completely empty. High ceilings don't help the acoustics either. Also its just beer and wine (unless something recently changed).

We were rather shocked by the lack of people in the place to really focus on the food. It decent enough - I would go back if for not such a dead dining room.

Paco's Cantina on Centinela?

The food is meh - but the real gem is the homemade Flour tacos. Almost worth a trip once in a while just to get them.

order some ghost chilis online. They don't really add much taste but add a ton of heat.
