Night out in Tacoma

We tried Asado and were very happy. Thank you for the recommendation. What a cool little block...my husband had been there many years back and remembered Engine House 9 but stated most other businesses were newer. I like seeing the changes in Tacoma.

Night out in Tacoma

Tried 1022 and were happy with the atmosphere, drinks, and cheeses. However, everything took an exceptionally loooong time. I will remember to give ourselves more time should we return. Thanks again!

The Herbfarm

Thank you...think we will try this in summer when it may also be pleasant to stay the evening.

The Herbfarm

I was just viewing the Herbfarm's website and their nine course themed dinners. Has anyone had this experience and if so, is it worth the cost ($200 a person)?

Night out in Tacoma

Wow! Thanks for all of the recommendations. I look forward to checking them out. Definite carnivores...so curious about Marrow. Thanks again!

Night out in Tacoma

I would like to take my partner out for his birthday and would appreciate recommendations (we are in Oly and seldom dine in Tacoma). I am a little burnt out on the traditional Pacific NW fare and am looking for something different and creative. Thanks!

Decent food in Tukwila?

Thanks to the both of you. I posted this pretty late and checked the thread when we arrived in town. We ended up at Bai Tong (just as they opened) and had a fantastic lunch. I highly recommend the crispy garlic chicken! What a pleasure to drive past the Claim Jumper, Applebee's, etc. to discover some truly delicious food.

Decent food in Tukwila?

We need to spend most of the day in Tukwila and all I can picture is chain restaurants. Anyone know of a decent place for lunch and a drink? Thank you.

Steak House

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I had no idea that my original post would provoke so much discussion!
In response to your questions...Yes, we are from Olympia and familiar with the greater Seattle area. I specified downtown because I intend to book a room there (also interested in any recommendations you may have in the $200 range). We are not at all opposed to driving out of the way if it's worth it. Most of our time in Seattle is spent in Ballard with family, so we haven't had much opportunity to enjoy other areas for awhile.
I will still consider the Met and will definitely check out Canlis. Thanks again!

Steak House

I am planning a one night stay in Seattle and would like to take my partner to the BEST steakhouse in the city. So far, I have heard that it's a toss up between the Met and El Gaucho. I would appreciate your feedback before I make a decision. Thank you!

Any restaurants worth the money in Olympia?

360-515-6405 is the number for Mero Mero and they can give you the exact address; however, it's near the Shell station on Capital way. My husband calls in the burrito special from work and rides his bike to pick up during his lunch break. He has mentioned many times how much healthier the food seems in comparison to California Tacos.

Olympia Catering???

Would anyone recommend an Olympia caterer for a house party of approximately 50 ppl? Many of the guests are foodies and appreciate fresh/local ingredients.

Any restaurants worth the money in Olympia?

I grew up in Olympia and worked in several restaurants (as a server) before moving to Bellingham for college and grad school. I realized how much Olympia lacks in quality food in comparison to similar size Bellingham. Now that I'm back in Olympia, I have discovered some truly great and consistent restaurants. If you are willing to spend some cash, I highly recommend Cicada, Basilico, and Waterstreet Cafe (all in the downtown area). For more casual fare, my husband and I really enjoy Fishtale Brewpub and the Iron Rabbit (westside). I agree that California Tacos is greasy. There is a far superior Taco Bus on Capitol Way in Tumwater called Mero Mero. I hope this helps. Welcome to Olympia!

Ballard Recommendations

Thanks so much for the recommendations everyone. I am brand new to chow.com and found this board really helpful. I checked out your suggestions and I think I'll make reservations at Volterra. We will certainly consider the others on our next visit (sans kids).

Ballard Recommendations

My husband and I are getting away for a Seattle evening in Ballard. We plan to see a show at the Tractor and we were hoping for a delicious dinner somewhere beforehand. We don't get out much these days with small children, so we were hoping for something special. Our hotel is actually in downtown Seattle (Waterfront Mariott on Alaskan Way), so it's possible to eat near the hotel and then drive to Ballard afterward. Any recommendations?
