Any soft shell sightings in Philly?

LOL barryg. You know - I cut and pasted that directly from the Golden Pheasant FB page. I didn't think that word looked right, but failed to check the correct spelling of "palate". Have not been to the Golden Pheasant since they renovated. My daughter and her husband went there recently and were very pleased with the food and ambience.

Any soft shell sightings in Philly?

Just saw this from Golden Pheasant Inn in Erwinna, PA (Bucks County near New Hope) "Come in and enjoy first of the season Soft Shell Crabs! Served with a side of Formisano Farms sautéed asparagus. This entrée is sure to please your spring pallet!"

Humpty's Dumplings, Glenside

Humpty Dumpling's Facebook Page has a little more info, including where their products are currently being sold. They will have a booth at the Glenside Farmer's Market and the dumplings are also available at New Galaxy Diner in Hatboro, as well as several other locations in the area.

A WOW meal

I have not been to Spring Mill Cafe yet, but all of the reviews I read on here and other foodie sites are glowing. Will have to move this one up on my list of restaurants that are a "must try"

New Hope Premium Fountain Beverages

I have been to Bryn & Dane's a few times - healthy fast food and fruit smoothies, as well as the New Hope Fountain Soda. Very good.

Melt Down (the grilled cheese restaurant) in North Wales, PA; locations in Wayne, Springfield and Newark too; serves New Hope Fountain Soda. Bryn & Dane's in Horsham also carries it.

Philly style German butter cake?

German style butter cake most definitely lives on in our area. I was first introduced to it after I was married and when we lived in Warminster. I used to buy it at Hahn's Pastry Shop in the '80's and up until they closed a number of years ago. Most recently, I have purchased it at Distelfink's Bakery in Lansdale and Lisa's Kitchen in Coopersburg. Both places make traditional, gooey and delicious butter cakes.

Blue Bell Inn Grand Reopening 4/7/14

Looks gorgeous. No prices on the menu, which scares me a bit. Anxious to read some reviews from people once they have tried.

Bar Lucca vs. The Stone Rose (Conshy)

I have been to both of Brian Pieri's restaurants. The StoneRose has a lovely bar area, main dining room, as well as outdoor tables in warmer weather. It also has a large, picture window that opens onto the street. Impressive wine list, great martinis (Pomegranate is my favorite) good food and a lovely hostess. Their specialty is Short Ribs & Mac & Cheese. Bar Lucca is also very nice and has outdoor tables in a fenced in patio area. Nice bar area and tables inside, as well as a main dining room. I had the Wild Boar Pasta when I was there, which was wonderful. Friends and I shared a plate of the Nutella Donuts, which were served warm, with gelato for dessert. Bar Lucca also has a custom-made brick oven for their specialty pizzas. You can't go wrong with either restaurant in my opinion.

Did they replace an existing restaurant? Can't place that intersection.

BYOB for party of 15-20 or another 40th bday idea

Fayette Street Grille is a great idea. Their $36 prix fixe for a three-course gourmet dinner is really reasonable. They are open for private parties/showers, etc. on Saturday and Sunday afternoons so perhaps that would work for you. Not sure about the price pp for an afternoon function. You could possibly do something on a Sunday evening or during the week when they are less busy. They do have an area that can handle up to about 16 people at one table and I'm sure could make provisions for a slightly larger party. We used to have company dinners there quite often when I worked for a small office in Conshohocken and we are going there for a birthday dinner with friends this Saturday evening.

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

Apparently there was an article in the Times Herald newspaper about Greenheart Cafe at the same time I posted my Chowhound review. That may explain the increased restaurant traffic this past weekend.

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

Me again CP. Thought you would like to know you were not the only one that missed out on waffles and other goodies this past Sunday. Obviously more people are catching on to this place. Here is a message from the owners - "Greenheart Cafe would like to take the time to formally apologize to all the patrons that we had to turn away due to an influx in the volume of people we typically serve, and being completely SOLD OUT OF FOOD on 3/9/14. Our top priority is excellent service to you the consumers, and we were saddened to not be able to accommodate each and everyone. Our deepest apologies and many thanks to all those who were served and pleased with their meal, and our service." So refreshing to see a restaurant take a pro-active approach when they disappoint their customers, rather than ignoring obvious issues. Well done Greenheart Cafe!!

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

Thanks for your review CP. Sorry to hear you missed out on the waffles, but happy to hear you were rewarded with extra wings to make up for your disappointment. My friend and I really liked the place when we stopped in. You are spot on about the local clientele becoming regulars as word spreads about this great addition to the Collegeville area. Also, I may be wrong, but I believe the family that runs the restaurant bought the golf and go-kart business too and is in the process of sprucing it up. Will inquire the next time I stop in.

Corropolese bakery and deli in Lansdale

Stopped in at Corropolese yesterday for an Italian Hoagie. I volunteer in Lansdale on Wednesday mornings and needed lunch before heading to Doylestown. Was pleased to see they had tables inside so I didn't have to eat in the car. Had a pleasant conversation with the cashier while I ate and also saw they were in the process of putting tables outside for the warmer weather. Best Italian Hoagie in the area; pleasant, helpful staff and they have daily bread and deli meat specials which are really inexpensive. I picked up a loaf of the Tuscan bread, which we enjoyed with dinner last night. They also sell pizza dough to make your own pizza as well as shaved steak for cheesesteaks. Love this place.

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

I think you will be impressed by the family who took this over last July. There are six booths done in black and silver as well as five small tables for two. There is also a lunch counter where you can eat. My niece and nephew recommended the place after enjoying dinner there. I understand their Sunday morning breakfasts (which they serve until 5 p.m.) can get quite crowded. Look forward to your review, as always.

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

I should also mention that fellow Chowhound ChefPaulo was looking for an area restaurant that featured Poutine on their menu. Greenheart does have a Poutine appetizer on their lunch menu, which they describe as Hand Cut French Fries with Crispy Scrapple, freshly made brown gravy, creamy fontina cheese and fresh herbs.

Greenheart Cafe - Collegeville

A friend and I had brunch at Greenheart Cafe today - the restaurant serves breakfast until 3 p.m. on weekdays, so arriving at noon, we were able to order from either the breakfast or lunch menu. I chose Eggs Benedict, which was served with Home Fries and a fresh fruit cup and was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the Southwest Burger, which was served with avocado on a fresh toasted roll. Greenheart is a family-owned BYOB that opened last July and is located behind the Collegeville Pit Stop mini-golf and go-kart attraction on Germantown Pike, close to where it intersects with Ridge Pike. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Photos of their menu can be found on Facebook. Their website is currently under construction. Food, service and ambience were very good.

Canadian restaurant in E. Norriton?

Hi Chef Paulo: I was checking out the menu for Lucky Well in Ambler today and noticed an item called "Texas Poutine" on their menu. Thought I would pass along the info. Here is a link to their website www.theluckywell.com

Canadian restaurant in E. Norriton?

Haven't been to the second Guppy's location, but I have been to the one on Elm St. in Conshohocken. Never had Poutine, but I know Guppy's has a really good chef. I have only been to Guppy's in Conshy for drinks and snacks and if you go, you must try their Conshy Crush cocktail, which I am sure they also have at the East Norriton location - Orange Tang and spirits (don't recall what liquor is mixed with the Tang) They also have beer and a good wine list as well as cocktails, but we had to try the Conshy Crush at least once. I am sure the musician that Crazy Spice mentions below is David Duong,a really great singer who plays at both Guppy's locations quite often. Try to go on a night he is playing - you won't be disappointed.

Rehearsal dinner in Lansdale vicinity?

My sister-in-law had her stepdaughter's rehearsal dinner at The Metropolitan American Diner & Bar in North Wales. My other sister-in-law's Bridal Shower was also held there. There is a private room/area on the right side of the restaurant where both events were held. Good food and service, ample parking and only 10 minutes from Lansdale. www.metrodinerbar.com. Don't be turned off by the name - it's definitely a restaurant and not a diner (building used to be Houlihan's) Another idea, but a bit further from Lansdale, is Ristorante Castello in Blue Bell. Very good Italian BYOB, with private rooms for parties. I would also agree with the other recommendations for The William Penn Inn.

Where can I find an Original 'Old School' Italian Hoagies?

Lenny's Deli on Fayette St. in Conshohocken makes a really good Italian Hoagie. If you go at lunchtime, they have a special, which includes chips and a soda. They are also good at Corropolese Bakery & Deli in Lansdale, which also has a location in East Norriton/Norristown; as well as Collegeville Bakery in Collegeville. Have fun trying them all.

Bakeries in the Collegeville/Phoenixville/Limerick area

My absolute favorite bakery in that area is St. Peter's Bakery, in St Peters, PA. Delicious bread and pastries. Love going there in the warmer weather and enjoying lunch outside on their deck, overlooking French Creek.

Bar Lucca Conshohocken

There was just a nice review in Main Line Today if you want to check that out. I actually did finally try Bar Lucca with two friends, a week before Christmas. Nice Happy Hour drinks - Prosecco the night we were there and dinners. If you go, you must try the Nutella donuts (served warm). We had with Cinnamon Gelato the night we were there.

North Wales area for Steak Au Poivre

Haven't tried this place yet, but our neighbors rave about it. My daughter and family also tried it recently - they ordered from the Prix Fixe dinner selections and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I see by the menu that you can get Filet Au Poivre on the regular menu as well as the prix fixe. http://www.centuryhousehatfield.com/m...
