Kosher Wedding Catering costs, Long Island

Check out other threads but from experience looking at caterers at jewish centers mainly, price per person ranged from 85 to 170, that includes open bar. Price is different for Saturday night versus Sunday too.

Butter substitute for rice recipe

My new favorite parve butter support is Earth Balance buttery spread. I've been using the past two weeks and the flavor is much better than margarine. I made mashed potatoes with it and it tasted like I cooked with butter.

La Sorrentina ( Down Hill alert )

Agreed, last few times I've had pizza from there I've been very disappointed. I used to like their slices.

Temple Beth el in New Rochelle

It's Rave Caterers
http://www.ravecaterers.com/

I looked there for my wedding, especially since my family is from Westchester/Rockand, but I wasn't crazy on the ballroom personally. All I know is that the space is relatively new and was told is gaining popularity, but it's definitely not like the temples on LI. Nice space, though, and caterer is nice.

Chinese on Christmas Day

Where is everyone going for their Chinese on Christmas Day?

Kosher Wedding

I didn't look in the city, but I did search in Westchester and found it difficult to find a catering hall that would accommodate a kosher party. I preferred not to have to use an outside caterer for logistical reasons. If you are willing to check out Long Island, there are a several nice places there to do a kosher wedding, for at or under your budget.

Why is All-Inclusive Resort food so awful?

I'm planning a honeymoon and great food is a must. We are considering Mexico (Rivereria Maya or somewhere nearby) and St. Lucia. But other islands will be considered. Any suggestions for all inclusive with great food?

What's the best diner in Brooklyn?

Kings Plaza Diner. French toast is delicious. I go there just for the cheesecake- best I think. Any dinner I've had there has been great. Portions are huge. It's a diner so don't expect gourmet, but basics are great and so everything else IMHO. But definitely save room for the strawberry cheesecake, or just go for dessert!

South Slope dessert place

I wish I could find a dessert place in the slope too. We usually eat dessert (if we are) at the restaurant and wish we could find some place that is not a bar to go to afterwards. Was hoping the new Almondine was open later.

Martha's Country Bakery

I"ve had several things from there before, all great. Black and whites, cupcakes, pies. We had the red velvet cake at my engagement party and it was to die for.

Kosher Wedding NYC/Long Island/Westchester

For fall/winter months, I was quoted 105 for Sat night and 65-75 for Sunday day at Crest Hollow. That's before Viennese table and any other extras you might add.

Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)

Thank you for the review. We will definitely ask for a tasting, but I have been hearing many great things about the food and their service. Did they let you taste during a wedding or did you come in during the week?

Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)

Glad to know others did not feel comfortable with the references! I feel if you have nothing to hide, then show us. Most other caterers have offered us some tasting.

Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)

That is a good point about accounting for individual tastes. That will always happen. I'm sure all of these places have good food, it's hard when you aren't able to preview the food. Shelter Rock definitely gives the appearance of "high end," and it seems like the service will be great. They are expensive but we found them to be less than some other places we looked at. And they do include a lot. I never realized how much these synagogues would be, but I'm not from Long Island and never realized how much of a business these synagogue caterers are. In Westchester, where I'm from, people never think to have their parties at synagogue, like on Long Island.

Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)

My fiance and I have been looking at several Jewish Centers on Long Island for our wedding next fall. We've looked at Shelter Rock Jewish Center, Sephardic Temple, and Oceanside Jewish Center so far. We still want to check out Woodbury Jewish Center (but probably too pricey), Temple Sinai, Jericho Jewish Center (Jem Caterers), and East Meadow. We do need glatt kosher. I was surprised to find out that some temples are not glatt, Oceanside was not and I need to find out if East Meadow is. Some are even just kosher style; they will serve dairy. Oh we also checked out the Royalton Mansion at the Roslyn Country Club. We loved it, they are affiliated with Jem caterers, but they are also the most expensive place we've seen.

So far, we really like Shelter Rock. We love their ballroom and the sanctuary. However, we've never been to a party there before and are extremely nervous about the food. Food is VERY important. Has anyone been to an affair at Shelter Rock or know of someone who has? They won't do a tasting with us because they don't like to do business during someone's party. Understandable, but I don't just want to call up the references that they give us. They did say they would do something during the week when they are preparing for the weekend and give us a taste,. But I rather taste something that is what is going to be served during my wedding.

Kosher Wedding NYC/Long Island/Westchester

Sounds like they probably got a good deal during the off-season. Do you know if you they use another caterer for kosher? Thank you for the info about Crest Hollow, I've heard very good things about it. My fiance's brother had his bar mitzvah there 10 years ago, so that was the last time he has been to a kosher affair there, but has been to many other parties there that were great.

Kosher Wedding NYC/Long Island/Westchester

Okay I know there are several posts on this topic and I've read through them... but I haven't quite found what I'm looking for yet.

I'm starting to plan my wedding. My future in-laws have requested that the reception be glatt kosher (they keep kosher in their home only, as do myself and my fiance, and have several family members that will only attend a kosher reception). Thing is, I just don't know where to look. We are definitely considering Crest Hollow. Other than that, I'm not sure. Long Island is probably preferable but my family is from Westchester so anywhere there and in between. Are there other catering halls that have separate kosher kitchens? I'm aware there are some good kosher caterers, as I've read about on this board, but if the hall doesn't have a separate kitchen, does that mean the food is prepared ahead of time? i really rather have the food prepared and cooked on site if possible. Or if anyone has any advice with just using any catering hall that says they do kosher, I'd love to hear. I'm new to keeping kosher, as is my side of the family, so I'm a little lost here. Any advice or ideas where to look would help. Thanks!
