Goldberg's Bagels coming to Silver Spring?
We tried these for the first time last week - the SO drove up and said it was mad crazy and they were out of a bunch (everythings!) of varieties -- but it was fairly late in the morning. 4 bagels and cream cheese were reasonably priced.
Overall though, the bagels themselves were awesome! Very near to the NJ bagels my grandmother always gets when I'm home.
Cooking Lessons in DC Area
I just took the knife skills course last night at CulinAerie - really great course! It was the first cooking class I've ever taken, so I don't have much to match it against, but my boyfriend bought it for me as a Living Social (similar to Groupon) deal - and these seem to turn up fairly often in rotation - so that seems to be a good way to make the courses more affordable - because I agree, I looked at some of other classes , and they are EXPENSIVE!
Asian markets - H Mart vs. All Green, which do you like better ?
I've never been to an All Green either, but I think H Mart has really good pricing and selection - I always try to do the majority of my shopping there (rather than Giant, Safeway etc). Meats, fish and produce are WAY fresher, nicer and better priced. H Mart in Falls Church has more Latino selection, but I find the one in Wheaton to be cleaner, easier to navigate (mostly, I just think it's newer)
Bulgogi in MD??
There's a small takeout counter at the H-Mart in Wheaton.
That area in general (past the Wheaton Metro station, 16th St NW/Georgia Ave) has a bunch of Korean restaurants and noraebangs. They seem to range though, so you might just have to pop in and peek at the menu. They don't come up in a Google search, but if you recognize Korean writing, you will be surprised how many you will see!
Looking for Dupont Circle recommendation
The best tip for parking around Dupont is the fact that you cannot park at most meters before 6:30 because of rush hour. Try to get in the vicinity of your destination by 6:20 and grab a prime spot at 6:25
All you can eat sushi?
Please search old feeds before posting! This is a topic that has come up multiple times in the short time I've been on this board.
My usual go to place for AYCE sushi is Matuba in Bethesda. $17 for the rotary buffet, not a bad deal. They tend to have more nigiri than maki but not a bad way to try things (since it's only 2 pieces at a time)
PORK BELLY
I'm sure this question has been raised recently, so please search the archives.
But I know for sure H-mart carries this (there's one in Wheaton, one in Falls Church, and others around the area)
Matuba lunch buffet in Bethesda
I also recently discovered Matuba's rotary sushi buffet. It's not a huge selection of sushi, but it's a great price for AYCE and the fish is very fresh.
The chef also puts the dishes out on different sides of the rotary belt, so one group of people don't cherry pick every dish as its hits the belt -- very helpful!
The salad wasn't at all interesting to me, but the gyoza and other hot treats that kept coming out of the kitchen were greatly appreciated. I loved the spicy rolls and the maguro. For $18 a head (we went for dinner) it was fantastic! We were both really satisfied.
Only thing I will note is that if you only like maki - you will be eating a lot of Cali rolls, spicy tuna rolls and hot gyoza! They serve about 50/50 maki-nigiri

Where to buy Korean bowls?
This is kind of a related question: I shop regularly at the H mart in Falls Church (I dont think this is a super H Mart... but then I'm not sure) and cannot for the life of me find the little silver rice bowls with the lid like they have in Korean restaurants. Anyone know where I can get my hands on oh, 4 of them cheaply?
Also - where is the Lotte everyone always talks about?
Lunch time Recc's @ Eat First/Full Kee/Chinatown Express?
Chinatown Express -
the steamed dumplings are OK but definitely in need of the at-the-table seasoning. A bit bland on their own. The dough is a really nice consistency though, so I think they're worth ordering.
The noodles: I like them in a soup (though you better have some time, they take FOREVER to cool off), rather than fried. The fried are really dripping with oil, and give you that weighed down feeling.
Note - I wouldn't recommend ordering *both* for lunch... it's a TON of food.
Dinner in Bethesda
If "seafood" extends to sushi, Matuba has a fun rotary sushi bar at their Bethesda location. Recently tried it for the first time, was impressed by the fun of it! Sushi options were not wildly bountiful, but there was certainly plenty going around, and the chef was really friendly.
Asian Court dim sum; any recent visits? Or Wheaton?
I'm going to Oriental East for the first time this weekend, is it as good as they say? And any idea of a price range? Tips for dishes to look out for?
Family foods I thought was normal
YUM! Frites in a paper cup with a glob of mayo! One of the best things I ate in Belgium -- and I ate a TON of things there.
Store with Large Selection of Kim Chee
H Mart in Falls Church is near-ish the metro (Dunn loring, I think would be the closest stop - and even then, probably a 10-15 minute walk) but also not a bad drive in non-peak hours. I go from the District there about every other week!
In Search Of Killer Falafel
Definitely don't bother with the falafel at Legends off of Dupont Circle. Long wait and they just generally tasted off!

FYI: we went to the one in Bethesda
Lunch Near 18th & K
Naan and Beyond is great! I used to work in the area and ate their about once a week. it's usually mobbed at peak lunching times (everything in that area is), but the line moves quickly (way better than say, Potbelly... which'll cost you at least 20 mins in wait time) and is worth it! I get the "meat platter special" which is $8 or $9 at lunch, and comes with butter chicken, a vegetable curry, a plentiful helping of rice and a naan. HUGE lunch and pretty delicious.

Tried the rotary sushi bar at Matuba for the first time. Was a lot of fun and pretty decent sushi for $18/per person. I was worried, since it was about half nigiri and half maki and my dining partner doesn't usually eat nigiri, but we had a blast. They rotate between the same 6 or so choices (spicy tuna hand roll, california roll, dumplings/gyoza, maguro nigiri, yellow tail, shrimp, and the occasional other yummies brought forth from the kitchen), so not a ton of variety or complexity of rolls. Still, it was yummy and filling, and definitely hit the sushi craving without breaking the bank for us!
Cant Miss Happy Hour Food Specials
The Front Page does a pretty decent happy hour special - $2.75 beers, wine and rails, half off the food menu -- which is really nice bar food. I think it runs until 7.

Family foods I thought was normal
YUM! Wow, haven't thought of a fried baloney sandwich in years.
I think my mom was trying to make a Midwestern version of the NJ classic Taylor Ham and Cheese with these when I was a kid. Not even close, mom!!

What did your Mom always have on hand, that you NEVER do?
My parents are recent empty nesters, and I'm convinced they don't eat meals.
They DO however always have on hand:
a huge box of Morton's kosher salt (which I can never bring myself to purchase, since I move so frequently, and who wants to lug a 5lb box of salt with them?)
a bizarre number of spices (which I'm regretting not having stolen before moving out again) that are used maybe annually: pumpkin pie spice, allspice, whole cloves AND ground cloves, nutmeg, etc etc etc.
tinned tuna
Frozen salmon
jarred minced garlic
iceberg lettuce
DC for 2 days, off-the-beaten path/interesting restaurants?
The Ethiopian places along U Street/Cardozo area are fantastic, and definitely worth trying out. They're right off the metro.
Chinatown Express isn't exactly "off the beaten path" per se, but it's got GREAT authentic Chinese noodles and dumplings they make right in-house. It's definitely a hole in the wall. And also right off Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop.

Red Quinoa in MontCo
if you're willing to make the trek into the District, the Whole Foods on P st. has it!
