Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
I made it to CRUMBS... Arrived just before 1030...there was a line a few people deep from the door when i first got there, luckily better weather today knowing i was going to be there a while...the two people in front of me bailed after about 10min of waiting...indirectly i advanced forward...by 1045 i made it to the threshold and waited another 15min while the line snaked around to the pastry case...note everyone had a coupon in hand ready to go...self included. Which thx the food gods i did bc i got the taste pk buy one get one...which for 2 dozen mini cupcakes would have been $50 without it...they are really well decorated cupcakes and the full sized ones look worth their price at around $4 ... Getting the sample pack allows to try the most popular ones...will be interested to pass by come june to see if there will still be a line out the door...which there was even a longer line when i left at 11:10...
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
They have a promo coupon buy one get one cupcake and or the mini packs buy ine get one...the deal ends today!! im making the drive down from peabody...i do have an alteria motive for making the special trip...i need a gift card from there... Would have ordered it on line but refused to pay an additional 7.50 for a $15 g/c for standard ups delivery...not cool

grabbing a quick bite near the Orpheum before a show?
Greetings fellow Hounds...
I'm going to a concert next week @ the Orpheum...traveling down from the north shore so I will be hopefully parking close by in a garage getting into town by 7ish...its been FOREVER since I've seen a show there let alone needed a place to eat before hand...we probably wont have time to "formal" sit down at say...Park 9 or whatever its called...would there be any place near by that's just an eat and go type joint moderately priced?
eat drink and be merry!
thx
north shore girl!
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
...good to know, i'll bring some friends and we can all sample each others cupcakes :P ...too bad they are not open on the weekends...and close early...traveling down from the North shore will def involve some planning
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
I wonder why of all the places... Crumbs picked federal st. as their first boston location...Why not go into Copley back bay area?!? Or even Fanuiel hall etc? Just curious...debating if and when i make a trip down that way... I'd have to make it worth my while and hit up another area close by
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
Wow!! I live up on the north shore so im sometimes out of the loop with you urban hounds! This truck looks like it could turn into a fun adventure one day when the weather starts really getting nice! Are they newer to boston area? I know food trucks around boston are starting to get very popular... Wasnt one on a foodnetwork competition? Anyway thanks for this cupcake tip!! That might be worth a trip ill have to check a website to see where they drive to
16th Birthday High Tea
i 2nd Wenham Tea House...if memory serves me right... I believe its the oldest running tea house in the country...however, being a North Shore girl...I can tell you i read recently that it has come under new ownership as of February this year. The owners of Henry's Food Market in Beverly will now be running it still as a restaurant/ gift shop focusing on specialty teas. I think it will be reopening again sometime in the late spring maybe April/May?
Thoughts on boston's CRUMBS Cupcakes
Hey Foodies...
I read recently that Crumbs Cupcakes opened one of their stores a few weeks back in the Financial District...(is that a strange location...i would think after 5 that area doesn't see much action?)
Anyway, I'm not too familiar with them, only that my NYC friends said they are good sized cupcakes, various flavors/toppings, but a bit over priced for the quality... didn't know if it would be worth the trip into that area some night... has anyone gone? Are there better cupcake bakeries around town that would be worth the drive in and the calories!!!
eat drink and be merry~
Thx :)
looking for current BASHO reviews...
i agree parking in that area is horrific, esp. during Red sox nation invasions....but i did see they validate parking in the garage on the corner of Boylston/Jersey which is convenient...if street parking isn;t an option...i guess the only real way is to go there and lend myself to the experience that Basho offers...perhaps if expectations are set lower...i wont be so shocked?
looking for current BASHO reviews...
to be honest...an actual serving of wine is really only supposed to be like 4oz ...so i dont think that is distasteful/cheap on behalf of the restaurant, its the same concept as mixed beverages need to be measured out etc....its all us winos that think we are getting ripped off b/c we pour our own big gulp! :P
looking for current BASHO reviews...
see...i'm totally confused by the reactions to this place...looks like its a toss up depending...
looking for current BASHO reviews...
I've read a few threads on here from previous chowhounds about BASHO...but it seems as if there most recent "reviews" were questionable or slightly bias? ...like an issue with drink orders using an internet dinning coupon...or service is lacking...
i see its been open since 2010 ...two years later...have they worked the kinks out? looking to eat there for the first time relatively soon b/c I will be in that specific area and from what i've gathered...the food and sushi is fresh??... i realize its not traditional Japanese b/c there is a modern take on it etc
Anyone been there in the recent to comment...or to share their experience?
Eat drink and be merry, Cheers!
restaurant suggestions around MFA/Gardner (or there abouts?)
this maybe a late night dinner, sometime after 9ish on a Thur...
going on the "raw" side of things...or with possible Asian vibe isn't there a sushi place along boylston...Basho? anyone have thoughts on that...
Never heard of Sweet Cheeks? is it new?!? i do enjoy me some BBQ, here on the north shore i hit Tennessee BBQ often in Danvers along 114 heading toward Peabody/North Shore Mall...
restaurant suggestions around MFA/Gardner (or there abouts?)
will be near the MFA/Gardner museum area in a few weeks! i've already been to Trattoria Toscana and LOVED IT but now looking to switch it up...i realize there is limited availability for food in that general area...would be willing to explore the Fenway/Boylston St as well, not too familiar with restaurants except Tasty Burger ...if need be i'd venture a few blocks within the museums, i'll be driving(or walking depending) so i'd need parking close by if relocating... ...any recommendations? i'm pretty adventurous with whats on a menu...
Open to suggestions...Chow on foodies!! Cheers!
light dinner down by the seaport area
Heading into Boston tonight for a concert at Bank of America Pavilion...will be getting into town around 630 and looking to grab a bite to eat before the show...nothing heavy, maybe sandwiches etc. open to any type of food...aside from the obvious Legal Seafood and the Barking crab...any other suggestions? its been a while since i've been down around the Seaport and I heard there have been several changes over the last few summers...
Secrets of Salem??
Bella Verona is a small authentic Italian restaurant across from the Hawthorn Hotel near the Salem Commons (a hidden gem i'd say)...for more upscale Mediterranean, "62" located in Pickering Wharf is wonderful, u can order several tapas to sample...I havent been to Greenland Cafe yet, but have heard great things...they cook with local produce/ organic ...Gulu Gulu Cafe has one of the larger beer selections and great sandwiches def. has an idie /art house vibe to it and usually there is some entertainment in the evenings...for breakfast hit Red's diner, been there forever local favorite greasy spoon cookin...

Dinner before Bank of America Pavilion??
Hey Foodies!
I haven't been around the new & improved seaport area in a while and i'm going to a concert tomorrow night at the Pavilion...show starts at 8 so i'm looking to grab dinner before around 630ish...nothing super heavy or very expensive. Aside from Legal Seafood/ Barking Crab...any other recommendations?!? Open to anything on the menu...just want to have some ideas about where to go once i get down into the area...!! Thanks hounds...
NYC Chowhound - Places to eat in the South End? Standout Homestyle places in North End?
I would also highly recommend Trattoria Toscana...I lived in Florence for half a year and can honestly say, as soon as I walked in the place, i was having dejavu to the authentic culinary cooking and atmosphere...very small rustic like I just crossed back over the Ponte Vecchio and walked into this place I used to eat at back in my time abroad...
If your dead set on going to the "north end" for the experience...I would check out Mama Anna's on the very end of Hanover St. stay away from anything that is directly on or in the middle of Hanover St...although its the heart of the north end...the restaurants are overate and cost too much money...as they told me in Florence...avoid main streets for eating, they are tourist traps and will rip u off...check out the off the beaten path spots...they cook with love!!
Avoid Mike's Pastry too...if you want real Italian...Go to Modern Pastry!

Hot Dogs: the Definitive List.

Best Places for Lunch North of Boston
well if you feel like traveling far up north...Newburyport is always fun and has plenty of places to grab lunch, my top picks would be Purple Onion for the best wraps....Oregano's has some seriously thin pizza that is cooked in a gas burning clay oven that came shipped over from Italy
http://www.thepurpleonion.com/
http://www.oreganopizzeria.com/
if thats too north shore...there are also some newer places that have opened up in Salem
since the early fall....Coven has pressed sandwiches/wraps...80's themed, all the foods are named after icons from the decade..."Rainbow Bright" is a veggie wrap....get the picture :)
Also, Greenland Cafe has been getting great reviews since it opened back in the fall...its slightly more upscale for lunch, it would be along the lines of the restaurants you listed above...there is also an Upper Crust pizza, its only a chain in MA, boston being its home base...there is also Gulu-Gulu Cafe, great for lunch...and even better at night b/c of their events and extensive bar selection! All are w.i the same block radius of each other

Best Places for Lunch North of Boston
where exactly on the "north shore" will u be...its pretty big!! if u can specifically say where about you will be, we could give some suggestions!! what type of food and price range??
Finale Desserts @ Park Plaza?
see...i've often wondered that myself...it does always seem to be busy w. lots of people waiting in lines etc. which is why I haven' t been in a while...it can't be all that "bad" if people are willing to stand out in the cold for even a short amount of time at 1030 on a freezing Feb. night w. neg.degree wind chills, esp. last night!! it was beyond cold...
Happy hour food on Rt 1
if you are simply looking for a good time and nothing "fancy" u could try The Border Cafe Rt.1 North in Saugus...or a little further up Rt. 1 there is another Tex-Mex place that just opened up with in the last year called Fat Cactus in Lynnfield nothing says "happy hour" like a margarita and fresh nachos w/ salsa!
Finale Desserts @ Park Plaza?
I've only been to the one in Cambridge a few years back w/ a friend from out of town and remember it being very good for the dessert selections (although admittedly over priced, i didn't mind b/c I appreciated the presentation on the plate etc) It was also a fun experience to look up at the mirror that was hung over the "bar" so that you could see the people mixing up the treats and pouring melted chocolate onto the massive marble slab...Is the Park Plaza location the same? What is the general consensus now about Finale Desserterie overall...interested in going only for dessert/drinks...if there is somewhere else that u think is an even better alternative for just desserts, please let me know!
Thanks ...Eat, drink and be merry!!
