Bocca di Lupo- a downhill slide?? [London]

It is great to get the other views, I won't give up! And thanks for the Brawn recommendation!

Bocca di Lupo- a downhill slide?? [London]

We stopped in just before the holidays and, to our surprise, had a very mediocre meal. We were naturally disappointed as previous meals were very solidly executed. I have mentioned it to a few other folks and am hearing mixed reviews of recent visits. Anyone else been there in the last few months? It would be a real shame if it is on the decline!

Chicory coffee

they (Algerian coffee shop) may not have it on the site, but my spouse purchased some in the shop just last month. Perhaps worth a call? Hope this helps...

Hersheys/Nestles chocolate chips London?

Selfridges food hall has them (at least they did last time I checked). There are also a few online sites that source "american food" in the UK-- easy to find with a search

Best neighborhood eats near Selfridges (Paddington/Mayfair/Marylebone)

Tried Zayna on New Quebec (right across from Red Sun) last Friday and it was quite good! Falls into the category of "posh Indian". (or, more correctly, Pakistani) Food very well executed & nicely presented.

It is great to have both Zayna and Trishna (which is "posh" seafood/south east India) in the neighborhood!!!

Best neighborhood eats near Selfridges (Paddington/Mayfair/Marylebone)

We moved into this neighborhood in February and have enjoyed eating aroud it quite a lot (but still have more places to try!). I would also really add Galvin's to the list. For the price point, they are punching above their weight...

And thank you to all for the new tips, going to try Red Sun asap!

GOOD KOREAN IN LONDON

around Centrepoint....

GOOD KOREAN IN LONDON

Asadal was okay, but way too expensive for the quality. . Koya is the better choice. Assa is also fun

Good burgers in London.

Alas, Ground in Chiswick is now closed. No clue why, it was always very busy!

Benito's Hat, Goodge St, London

I also was also disappointed with Benito's Hat after all the glowing reviews. The pork filling was quite bland. I much prefer Chilango and Tortilla (in order of preference).

Turkish Red Pepper Paste

You are looking for Hot Pepper Paste or Biber Salcasi (I use the Sera brand). It comes in a jar or a canister. Hope this helps.

Mexican tacos de pastor in London?

now now, don't get in a strop... ;-)

Mexican tacos de pastor in London?

Authentic? Sorry (very very very sorry), but you are just not going to get anything all that authentic here. The difficultly in sourcing ingredients combined with the fact that just about every new Mexican place that opens does try, but then just ends up watering down their menus for the English palate (something of an oxymoron in this case) makes it pretty impossible. I really recommend just trying to enjoy what is available.

Taqueria is probably the best best for tacos. Mestizo is good for the simple stuff (like tacos & antojitos), but the main plates are hit and miss (the mole is really bad). That said, they do a good brunch. A frew good burritos places are Chilango on Fleet St., Tortilla near Angel and a new place opened in Shoreditch shows some promise-- Poncho #8. I was there the first week and they needed to work out a few kinks, but might be worth another go.

Sorry!

Places to eat in Oxford, any ideas?

Shanghai 30's at 82 & 83 St. Aldates is wonderful! Really -- not to be missed.

Buttermilk? (London, ideally Hackney)

You might not be finding it because they sell it in pots like single & double cream-- you will find it stocked in that area of your store (not with the milk in a carton as they do in the US). All the grocery chains sell it.

Spanish Food Shop in London

I agree with Dan above, the place is R. Garcia & Sons at 246-250 Portobello Road W11. Excellent Spanish grocery w/ large selection-- was just there yesterday stocking up!

New Year's Eve (festive dinner)

Thanks to souphie for the recommendations for New Year's Day, anyone have recommendations for a festive New Year's Eve dinner in Paris? Staying in St. Germain, but happy to travel to other neighborhoods!

kosher salt in Wales or by mail order in UK

You can't find it in the UK-- I had the same problem. I went to all the London grocers who stock "American" or "Jewish" (the labels of the stores, not mine!). I also asked the mail order businesses for "American" food in the UK (Let's Eat American) --- I was sure they would have received several requests. Alas, they assured me there was no demand and the minimum order would b 5 cases!!

Maladon crystals are very large, the "Cornish Kosher sea salt" is also large grained (but not as big as Maladon). The "cooking salt" found in most grocery stores (usually in a plastic bag) is used by a friend of mine, but I am not so fond. All lack the uniformity of kosher salt. If iodine (not uniformity/size of crystals) is your concern -- sea salt has no additives.

So...I recommend getting some Maladon to fill the immediate gap then requiring "tithing" from visiting friends!! I have visitors bring kosher salt and New Mexico chilies.

Sorry to be the poster of bad news!!!
