Good, reasonably-classy, not TOO expensive restaurants in Philly?

I'm planning on going out to dinner tonight with a good friend of mine and I'd like to go somewhere nice. I'm not super-rich or anything (college student) but I'd like to go somewhere that's a little more upscale that won't totally break the bank. FYI, my friend has a gluten allergy so if there are any places that have gluten-free menu items or some other things that she could eat, that would be awesome. Transportation isn't a problem so long as it's reachable by cab, subway, or bus. Also, we're certainly not picky eaters so anything goes.

good eats in Newtown?

I lived in Newtown for most of my life and can't say that there are any particular restaurants that stand out to me. If you want "different" and better food, drive the 15 minutes to New Hope or drive the 45 minutes to Philly.

Where to take the grandparents?

If they like Mexican, you could take them to El Vez (13th & Walnut). It's a little pricey but the food is awesome, the guacamole is incredible, and the atmosphere is nice.
