Good Italian restaurants - anywhere in manhattan

Haven't been to Ecco in years. Last time, and this was years ago - everything was so oversalted, it was hard to finish my meal - or so I remember. But again - that was many years ago. Interesting thought - thanks.

Good Italian restaurants - anywhere in manhattan

You're right - I did not do my homework before posting. No availability at Scarpetta - was thinking of Locanda Verde.
Thanks.

Good Italian restaurants - anywhere in manhattan

I'm looking for a really good place - can be a joint or a high class place. Tried getting into Babbo but they don't have availability until mid Nov. I"m looking for Oct. 26 or 27.
Been to many places all over town - don't want to go to Lupa, or Felidia, or Convivio; I live near Le Zie and eat there all the time. I'm open to suggestions.
Anyone know anything about "Peasant"? Just saw it on some list - don't know anything about it.

Di Fara's what to order..

I was just there this past Thursday. Got there around noon - no wait at all. I ordered the plain - as that's what I used to eat when I hung out there as a high school kid many years ago. The price was eye opening - $4.00/slice - but I say order only what you're going to eat - even if it costs a bit more. Over ordering just to have it all is a huge waste. Start with a couple of slices - heck, you may not even like it.
Have fun. The nabe isn't what it was when I was a kid, but what is?

Looking for great pic (moderate prices) in upper 20s/30s - Italian, Seafood, Mediterranean? West side preferred.

Pepe Gallo - 10th Ave between 24th-25th. Good, not great. Very reasonable prices. Back Garden is nice (it's covered). That's a tough one. A little further south - Le Zie - 7th ave and 20th. Good pasta and fish - and good starters. Don't love some of the main courses.
Good luck

Lunch In Flatiron/Chelsea (20th st.) area

And yes, there is a 'witchcraft on 20th between Bway and 5th.
Zaro's opened on Bway at 20th? - You can sometimes get some good things there. City Bakery for the extensive and expensive salad(+) bar, but there sandwiches are nothing to write home about. One more - I haven't tried yet but am curious about - on 18th between 5th and Bway -Tarallucci e Vino It's just past Rosa Mexicano heading east. Looks very tasty. Happy lunching

Ricotta Cheese

I agree with DiPalo's or Alleva - though I prefer DiPalo's. Just don't go on a weekend afternoon and expect to get out of there in less than an hour.

Celebration trip to NYC. Recs please.

I just had a fabulous dinner at Gotham. Hadn't been there in a while. The decor is starting to wear thin, but I had a fabulous piece of black cod. Apricot souffle crisp dessert was a winner. If you want a Danny Meyer restaurant, I would go to Tabla. I find it more interesting than Eleven Mad, though I haven't been back since they changed chefs.

If you want to say you've been before they close - try going to Florent in the Meatpacking district for breakfast or lunch. The food isn't outstanding, but they make a good breakfast. He was/is an original. The place closes end of June. I, for one, will miss it when it's gone. If you're going to the Neue - go to their cafe for strudel. Yum.
I think the cupcakes at Magnolia are dreadful. But that's my opinion. There's a cupcake/cake place on 9th and 21st? Billy's. It's very cute. I would pass on the cupcakes and stop in at 3 Tarts on 9th and 20th. Interesting little sweet "bites" in a gift shop type setting. No place to sit. If you're into brownie's - Fat Witch - inside of Chelsea Market. Try the ones with cherries.
Have a great trip. Congrats to both of you. The Morgan - can't wait to see the Guston!

Eating alone in Midtown

You're in a tough part of town for good eats, alone or not. For something simple - and I mean simple, but tasty - there's Waldy's - wood oven pizza from Waldy Malouf. Wine is of the good, better, best variety. No atmosphere whatsoever, but it's cheap and tasty. 800 6th Ave between 27th and 28th on East side of street.
Haven't been yet, but there's a new Texas BBQ place that recently opened at 30 W.
26th. Reviewed in today's NYTimes - http://events.nytimes.com/2007/07/11/dining/reviews/11unde.html?ref=dining Again - no atmosphere, but it's my neighborhood, so I'm planning on giving it a go soon.
If you like BBQ - there's always Blue Smoke - a Danny Meyer place, on East 27th off of Park Ave.
Staying on the west side, there's a lot more going on the further west you go. 10th Ave, there's Pepe Gallo to go, a small, good neighborhood Italian place- has a pleasant garden in the back. Lots of artists, esp. after gallery openings (it's in the heart of the Chelsea Gallery area) I doubt there will be a tourist in sight. Also on 10th - Bottino, Red Cat - a good place but loud. That's 10th and 24th.

Good luck and have fun......
