Pine Social (New Canaan) Menu posted

Just went for dinner and drinks with some friends and first and foremost, I was impressed with the service. It always amazes me that expensive Fairfield county restaurants can offer unprofessional and sloppy service for the $30 entrees. Our waiter was impeccable, even handling guests leaving and more taking their place, closing checks and opening tabs with grace. The host was friendly and inviting, he even remembered me from picking up takeout a week ago.

On the food side, I had the skirt steak sandwich with a side of sauted spinach and it was perfect. I was a little disappointed that the bread wasn't warm but the olive oil was delicious. It was the same sandwich that I ordered to go last weekend and they even asked how I wanted the steak cooked for my to go order.

As a younger, childless person in New Canaan, it's nice to have a place that offers a reprieve from family-centric dining so I definitely vote no kids menu. But even if they chose to offer one, I would continue to come here because running into a student is not going to ruin my meal but a server who forgets orders and spills drinks just might.

How to tell if ground turkey is still good?

I bought some ground turkey at Whole Foods last thursday and it has been in my fridge ever since. When I unwrapped it today to make turkey quinoa burgers, it was still pink and not slimy but i couldn't tell if it smelled okay. It didn't smell "bad" but I really couldn't decide if it smelled like ground turkey should smell.

I don't cook meat very often so I decided that I would just make them and now they're done. I'm nervous though b/c I would prefer NOT to get e.coli or something tonight.

Does anyone have any advice or can you describe how raw ground turkey normally smells?

Thank you!

Help! Term for politically/socially-motivated responsible carnivore?

I was a vegetarian for over 10 years and sometimes when I'm asked if I eat meat and I say yes, (people must still be able to smell the tofu on me or something!) I have trouble explaining that while I do eat meat now, I'm still not chowing down on quarters pounders.

I usually say that I am a conscious eater who is open to trying new foods. People seem super fascinated and always want to know more. When I was a veggie, there was less room for discussion. Especially when I was an angry teenage vegetarian who made no qualms about my feeling for murderous meat eaters ;-)
