Bloody Marys
I had the pleasure of going to brunch at The Country Club last Sunday and had one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. They make their own mix and it's beautifully balanced. As a bonus we got to enjoy the Drag Brunch. All in good taste. We had a blast.
New Orleans cookbook
My cookbook "bible" for New Orleans food is "The New Orleans Cookbook", by Richard and Rima Collin. Richard Collin used to be the food critic for the Times Picayune many years ago and he and his wife put this cookbook together.
I love it....and still use it to this day for things like my red beans and rice and the Oyster dishes. The Oysters Bienville are to die for.
Get this book...you won't be sorry.
Impastatos vs Sal and Judy's
Went to Impastato's with my husband the other night and we were very pleased with everything. We shared the dinner special and chose the seafood canneloni, and the ossobucco. We also saw someone eating fried shrimp and had a half dozen of those. The salad was lovely the service was very good. We will definitely go back with friends next time.
I have never had a bad meal at Sal and Judy's. The food has been consistanly good for years in my opinion, but having Impastatos here in the city is a great choice when you don't feel like going to Lacombe.

Bachelor Party Dining
I second Galatoire's for Friday lunch...nothing else compares
You will have a blast at Emerils....their service is unsurpassed. I would also like to recommend a new restaurant called Meson 923. Local seafood and other wonderful dishes with great service
I also secon Finn McCools for the soccer game.
Have a great weekend
Forget about Mandina's....it's not even close to what it used to be, except for the turtle soup. The food is tired and the renovation leaves much to be desired.

unofficial poll: Lillette, Patois, or Bistro Daisy tonight?
I would choose Lillete first, Patois second and then Bistro Daisy, only because I've never been to BD.

Impastatos vs Sal and Judy's
Can anyone tell me whether Impastatos Restaurant is as good as Sal and Judy's? I've been to Sal and Judy's many times over the last twenty years but I have never been to Impastatos.....I believe that the two proprietors are brothers and the menus look similar. I don't mind going to Sal and Judys but instead of going across the lake I would like to know about the quality of Impastatos. Is it similar?

Crabmeat Salad
Do any of you know where one can get a nice crabmeat salad or lump crab cocktail? My hubby is in the mood for one and other than Galatoire's, we can't think of another place to get one. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Iris and MiLa
I agree with uptownlibrarian. The ambience at Iris is better, but to me the food at MiLa is better....either choice is good.
Should I fit Jacques-Imo into my list of meals???
I agree wholeheartedly with Jazzy B. Emeril's is a blast....just hang out in the bar for a while then let the chef feed you. You won't regret it. You can even eat at the bar and meet the locals who hang out there....one of our favorite places.

Which would YOU pick?!?
I really like all of the four of the restarurants you chose. I looked at the dinner menus of all four and the only one posts a tasting menu, MiLa. Of the four I favor MiLa.
What MUST we add?
I prefer Herbsaint to Bayona but as far as the NOWFE stroll, I believe your enjoyment will depend greatly on the weather....it's only a shame you won't know what that will be like until that evening. If the weather is nice the stroll would be lots of fun. Make you reservation early and you'll still have time for a stroll.
Friday lunch at Galatoire's is a must. Go no later than 11 and you should be seated in the main dining room. As the restaurant begins to fill with all the locals the party begins and lasts till about 4. Tell the waiter what you like and he will feed you. Have as much seafood as you can get. It may not be around much longer.
Friday dinner: I've only been to Dick and Jenny's and MiLa and I love them both. I had the most rediculously delicious fried oysters there than I think I've ever had.
For Sunday lunch have split the ruben at Stanley on Jackson Square. I hear their the tits.

Coops Place
Obviously a wide array of opinions on their food, so I understand a little better that some love it and some don't. Next time I'll go for the beer and pass on the food...
One Dinner Slot Left
I think you should tri MiLa in the CBD. Local ingredients, lovingly prepared and delicious.
Coops Place
I'll definitely try that quesadilla when I go back....In retrospect it was probably not a good idea to order fried seafood there. I also heard about the BLT with cheese being good. Have any of you had that?
Coops Place
OK, after everything I've heard about Coops we decided to try it. Please, can someone tell me what all the hype is about??? I agree that it is a great dive bar....I love that about the place.
The food, however is awful. At least what we had was awful. The gumbo had almost no seafood and the predominant taste was okra. I like okra but it's supposed to be seafood gumbo.
My husband had the seafood platter, (maybe a mistake), It was a plate overloaded with seafood but the fish was undercooked and the rest of the seafood was overcooked. I had the fried oysters and they were dry, overcooked and appeared as if they had been fried earlier and were sitting under a heat lamp.
We went there around 4:30 in the afternoon and they weren't that busy. The bartenders are defintely a bit surly, but nice enough.
Please tell me what I should eat there so that if I return I won't be so disappointed.....I really wanted to like it after everything I've read but I just don't get it. Maybe the burgers??
Finally giving back to the NOLA thread , after 3 ridiculous food tours....
I'd probably die from that overload. I don't know about the rest of you but I just can't eat near as much volume as I used to. I have trouble finishing two courses these days. Glad you're enjoying yourself and all the wonderful food this city has to offer. God bless all the local fishermen who supply us.
Best Banh Mi?
I'm a banh mi novice....what fillings would you suggest for my first? And I can't agree with Juvu more about the pate chaud. They are addictive.
Mexican?
That's hilarious, but probably true. I would truly rather have the server tell me that the avocados were not ripe enough to serve guacamole that day than for them to serve that crap.
feeling the effect of the spill
We're also very upset....one of our good friends is an oyster distributor and this may ruin his businesss...
New and Notable?
Would highly recommend Patois. I haven't eaten at Coquette yet but everything I hear about it is good. I have eaten at Meson 923 several times since its opening. I personally love the crudo menu, the hamachi and the diver scallops are wonderful. My favorite entrees are the pork shank served with braccoli rabe and gnocchi with a light demi and the skate. Both dishes are wonderful and go quickly so if you dine there go no later than 7:30. Have fun whatever you decide.
Meson 923
Totally agree with Figndate about this new little gem in the Warehouse District. Have been there three times for dinner and everything we had was exceptionally good. We ate there last week with a group of 14, and even though they were slammed everything came out hot and fresh. I'd highly recommend this great new addition to our Warehouse District neighborhood. Welcome home, Chris.
If I Liked ....., Where Should I Go for My "Last Supper?"
I'm a huge fan of MiLa. The food is always thougtfully prepared and wonderful. Iris would be another good choice in my opinion.
off the beaten path between Houston and New Orleans
I've heard great things about Nash's in Lafayette. Does anyone have an opinion on this restaurant?? Did anyone mention the Sunday brunch at Cafe Des Ami? I'd recommend that.
Soft Shell Crabs in CBD/Warehouse?
Perhaps the Bon Ton Cafe on Magazine or Grand Isle on Fulton St in Harrah's Hotel. Maybe even Dragos in the Hilton on Poydras.

moving to New Orleans!
Everyone forgets about Zara's on Prytania in lower garden district....it's a full service grocery....a bit more expensive than Rouses, but in a pinch they've got almost everything. I stop there occasionally. Reminds me of NY.
Farmer's markets and local groceries
I'm pretty sure the Vietnamese market is still operating....but from what I've been told it runs on Saturday mornings from 6am to 9am....way too early for me.
Another place for sausages is NOLA Grocery right behind Butcher on Andrew Higgins. They have a really good green onion sausage.
