Strip T's increasing funkiness
I stand by my thread title and note that is has gotten even funkier (in a good way) since the original post!
Help with Pizza in Needham
Just curious, anyone know whether there is an actual pizza tradition in Greece, or is it a Greek-American (or maybe Boston area) phenomenon?
Lunch in the seaport district
My company moved to a new office building near the end of the Greenway (Atlantic & Congress) and I'm looking for good, lesser-known lunch spots with an emphasis on options in the $8-$14 range to try. Anywhere within half-a-mile or so is fair game! I already know about the South Station kiosks, Chinatown, the greenway trucks, and Sportello. Any suggestions out there?
Thanks!

Russell House Tavern...everyone's favorite small plates there?
My favorite from dinner this past weekend was something whose complete name I can't remember, but featured smoked lamb belly.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
Yeah, that is a potential problem, and so is keeping a young, inventive chef at a joint that can only seat 15 people at a time. I was there for lunch the other day (the menu for which is unchanged, btw) and saw a note on the sidewalk specials board explaining the shift in dinner focus.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
Ditto, mine was on-the-money tender. Let's not make the mistake of comparing the poor guy to David Chang, regardless of where he has worked. To me, the quality, value, and inventiveness of the food are just about perfect for the neighborhood. I do agree with opinionatedchef's assessment of the tendency of some dishes towards overly sweet in an Americanized-Chinese kind of way, but so far I have had many more hits than misses.
Best places for VERY spicy food??
I have had mixed results here. Twice, I ordered the crispy pork belly "pet pet." The first one almost incinerated me, the second was not even close to that level.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
Went back for dinner last night. The charred baby octopus with smoked tomato wasbi sauce was one of the best things I have eaten in a while. Also had a tasty "scorpion" moule-frites dish, which was spicy and served in a scorpion bowl (a la The Hong Kong in Harvard Square). Definitely will be a regular here, I hope it lasts.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
And I mean funkiness in a good way. Over the past several months there, I have seen an increasing amount of southern food and Asian influence in their menu (something they had a bit of in the past.) A couple of nights ago, they had a fried pig-tail appetizer with watermelon and peanuts, a few weeks ago deep-fried brussels sprouts. The salmon entree included grilled bok choy, finely shredded crispy carrot strings, and a generous amount of what I think was a cilantro pesto. And their takeout menu (not yet online) had a stew featuring tripe. All-in-all, a bit more adventurous than is normal for the area. Anyone know whether the management has changed?

Moody St. Waltham Sunday
Well, I guess it's good to have some Indian mojo back on Moody even if it's a little pricey. I had lost interest over the years in Bombay Mahal and the other old-timers.

Anyone know what the new incarnation of Kebab & Tandoor is like? Is it back to its more humble, hole-in-the-wall roots, or continuing it's a-little-too-big-for-its-britches second incarnation?
Watertown tips?
Welcome to the neighborhood. The only things I have to add to the exhaustive lists below are:
Celebrity Pizza (for the soft-serve ice cream, and some like their fried seafood though I have never tried that)
Wild Willy's for good burgers, onion rings and fries, and great raspberry lime rickeys.

Big Sky bakery opening in Watertown Square
Moving from Newton center to Main St., where the mom-and-pop locksmith used to be. It looks like they are just about ready to open. I have noticed this place over the years in Newton, but never tried. Anyone have recent impressions?
"The Talk" in Watertown; Been There? Today's Groupon Monday 1/17/11
I've had some uninspired food there, no real desire to return. It's wasn't bad, just not in any way memorable. The price point with the groupon probably makes it worthwhile if you're a local.
The New Del Frisco's
I read somewhere that the original is remaining open, but have no particular info (the reason I came across it is that that my office is also moving into that building)
The New Del Frisco's
Smith & Wollensky is taking a large space in the new building at Atlantic & Congress, so they're going to at least put up a fight.

Bobalicious - Newton
Yeah, I think they are mother/daughter. The mother was the one who came over from the nail salon.
chow worthy coupons April
Have not been there myself for several years, but it is my understanding that the original chef/owner is no longer there and that the place has gone severely down hill.
Bobalicious - Newton
During my last two visits, the man behind the counter had to call the sandwich maker, who would run out of the nail salon across the street (where she was presumably working, not getting her nails done) to make them.
Cooking classes for/with kids?
Thanks everyone, createacook looks to be our best bet.
Cooking classes for/with kids?
Is anyone aware of Boston-area cooking classes that are targeted at kids (10-12 year-olds) or parents and kids together?
Thanks!
Pizzeria Regina vs. Pizzeria Regina
Have you in fact been to this one before making your important distinction? They are franchises, not necessarily all the same. It is pricey, I will admit, on par with Upper Crust, but I like their slices better.
Pizzeria Regina vs. Pizzeria Regina
Never been to the original. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised at how good the slice at the franchise in the Arsenal mall food court was (a reheated slice, at that!)
Micro-chain restaurants going viral
There seems to be a rash expansion of local eateries that have had a single location for years. The "Upper Crust" syndrome has hit Lyndell's (Somerville (defunct?), North End, Belmont), and Comella's 9 (!) locations, 8 of which are new in the last two years. It seems like an odd time to be expanding so crazily. Are these people hoping to "go national" and become the next Boston Chicken or Bertuccis?

Island Creek Oyster Bar--best place in the whole world!
Anyone know if this place has any non-seafood options? I would love to go, but my dc does not like fish.
Take-out for 30 in Waltham or Newton?
Comella's (family-style italian takeout) in West Newton is usually a crowd-pleaser, though not very sophisticated. They could certainly handle the quantity without any problem.
