Mentaiko spaghetti in Manhattan

Basta Pasta on 17th St and 6th Ave is amazing. It's run by an all Japanese staff. They make some pretty outstanding pasta dishes including mentaiko spaghetti but my absolute favorite is their pork chop. So thick, so juicy, so the other white meat. I wouldn't waste my time at any other japanese-italian restaurant.

Top Pizza in NYC

Sal & Carmine's is amazing!!! I think it's the best slice in the city. It used to be run by 2 crank old italian guys but Salvatore has since passed away. RIP Sal. Not it's just Carmine and a guy who I suspect is a son of one of the namesake. The crust is doughy and chewy in the best of ways. The sauce is good but the cheese is great. The slice is a bit salty but I like it that way. It makes me know that i'm eating pizza with real whole fat cheese and makes me ache for a beer. The back of the joint is dark, quiet and a respite from the streets. I like to get the paper and eat a few slices in silence to get out of the house and take a break from the family. I love this place. Long live S&C's

Help! Veg-friendly spot in the East Village for birthday dinner

Have you considered taking it to the next level and checking out Pure Food and Wine? I'm a meat eater and I'm pretty happy when I go there. It may be pricey but well worth it for their food. After all, it's your birthday!

NY-based Cheese of the Month clubs

I bought the cheese of the month from Murray's and I have to say it was damn good. It's a great gift choice and whoever you're buying it for will invite you over for a sampling at least once! I really love Murray's and their love and care for cheese. I went down to their caves in the Village for a TV shoot and I was blown away. Their entire operation was amazing.

ISO: oasis of calm in Friday-night Manhattan

If price is not an issue, then I tend to like Jewel Bako for these kinds of things. But, a restaurant that I really love, isn't too expensive and doesn't get the attention/recognition that it deserves is Basta Pasta. It's the Japanese-Take-On-Italian restaurant on 17th between 5th and 6th Aves. It's a very clean, sleek yet welcoming restaurant where you can relax and have a good meal/conversation without feeling rushed. I highly recommend it.

Where can i buy the best raw head-on jumbo prawns in nyc?

You should definitely check it out. There were dozens of styrofoam containers of live seafood. I just couldn't tell what they were. They even had live fish swimming in some of the containers. Wild.

Where can i buy the best raw head-on jumbo prawns in nyc?

I went for some noodles in the Brooklyn Chinatown off 8th Ave last weekend and checked out some of the markets out there. It was amazing. The food and the entire scene just seemed cleaner and better out there. I'm sure it was because there weren't thousands of people pushing through the sidewalks and the stench was not nearly as bad. The fish mongers probably get their fish from the same suppliers but everything out there seemed fresh and good. There was a large selection of LIVE seafood including large prawns and some other fish that I couldn't even identify. Check it out. 8th ave around 58th st in Brooklyn.
