Asheville in October

I would also second the Fig recommendation. I ate there last weekend and it was great.

ISO: Most representative restaurant of Ashville

I think Rhubarb might be a possibility although some will disagree.

How do you feel about waiters clearing dirty dishes and then serving food without washing their hands in between?

Would that be a Rob or a Laura Petrie dish?

Horrible Restaurant Names

How about Bearly Edible a place that (not surprisingly) went out of business in Asheville, NC.

Thanksgiving Guests! What are you bringing?

I'll be bringing some cornbread stuffing and perhaps some homemade cranberry sauce along with some wine.

The one place not to miss in Asheville, Greenville, NC, and Savannah?!?!

Rhubarb is also excellent in Asheville. Located right on Pack Square at the Monument.

Farm Burger in Asheville, NC (:o(

The burgers at Universal Joint are pretty tasty and they seem to be able to cook them to my medium-rare liking.

Your family favorite black eyed peas recipes?

I make this Black-Eyed Peas with Hominy and think it is great!

Black-Eyed Peas With Hominy
3-4 slices bacon, chopped
1 med. onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
½ red pepper, diced
½ green pepper, diced
2 fresh jalapenos, minced
1-2 tbsp olive oil
2 cans black-eyed peas, drained, rinsed well
1 can white hominy, drained, rinsed
1 tsp ground cumin
¼ tsp cayenne, or less to taste
Salt, pepper
Parsley and/or green onions for garnish
Sauté bacon until crisped. Add oil and sauté vegetables. Add black-eyed peas and
hominy and cook until warmed through. Add cumin, cayenne and salt and pepper to
taste. Garnish with parsley and green onions.

Is there a difference between Chicken Broth and Chicken Stock?

I see both of these in the same section at the grocery and I was wondering if there is really any difference?

I think La Folie would be a good choice also.

Anniversary in Asheville

I believe The Edison opened a week or two ago. I have seen some very favorable reviews of it, some from people who have not had a very high opinion of GPI food in the past.

Out & About in Asheville, Vol. IV

I tried Isa's Bistro for lunch today and enjoyed it. I sat outside on the sidewalk and enjoyed the people watching. I think this is one of the best outside dining spaces in Asheville. I tried the Spring Garlic Soup ($7) and enjoyed it very much with a glass of Verdejo ($7). The soup was thick and creamy served cool with some nice croutons and finishing oil. For the main course I had the PEI mussels with smashed fingerling frites ($14). The mussels were very good in a nice spicy broth and the "frites" were actually quite good and crispy with a nice aioli dipping sauce. I had a nice dry rose with the mussels ($7). Very nice lunch. The sandwiches and other dishes I saw being served looked good also. This is a nice addition to the Asheville scene.

Post if you made something for the first time today!

I made Bourguignon d'Agneau for the first time this week and it turned out great. I only did half the recipe to test for a dinner party but I liked it a lot. It needed some more liquid after being in the oven for 3 hours so I will check it half way through the next time and add more liquid if needed. I used this link for the recipe (it is really just like Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon but with lamb):

Was in there on Monday and had a great bratwurst with Lusty Monk mustard and good kraut. The burger I saw the guy next to me eating looked very good also.

Puffy tacos smothered with queso

Doesn't Matt's El Rancho still serve those? I seem to remember them from Felix's Mexican Restaurant in Houston long ago.

At Biltmore if you go out to the winery area, called Antler Hill Village, either the Bistro or Cedric's Tavern are fine for simple meals.
