Drinking in Paris

No, there will be no resentment.

Is this too much for 1 day?

Yes, that is probably too much for one day. Can you move one of the reservations?

Plant - Fantastic Food and Cruelty Free! (Asheville)

Actually it is on Mwrrimon across from the old Deal Motors location.

Best Restaurant in Asheville!

The Admiral is overrated and the atmosphere is marginal. Rezaz or the Market Place have much nicer service and atmosphere with food that is comparable or better.

Lobster roll or crab sandwich - where to eat near wharf?

Scroll down to the bottom of the menu to the Sandwiches section

Just One Saturday dinner...

I went to Le Dome (Montparnasse) and had a very good, albeit somewhat pricey meal. The atmosphere is great and I think you would be fine alone there. There seems to be no prix fixe menu so everthing is a la carte and I would guess €100 for a meal with a couple of glasses of wine. Also, the menu is primarily seafood.

3 Days in Asheville

Rezaz or Corner Kitchen or Fig in Biltmore Village. Cucina 24, Table, Modesto or

Limones in downtown.

3 Days in Asheville

A much better fine dining choice is the Market Place downtown on Wall St. I just had an excellent meal there last week. The atmosphere is superb, the food is just as good as the Admiral and the price point is about the same. Atmosphere at the Admiral sucks wind unless your idea of atmosphere is hanging around a seedy bar with a bunch of losers drinking PBR.

Asheville on a Sunday Evening

I think Table is open and would be a good choice.

Asheville HomeGrown on Merrimon (Former Picnic's location)

I went for lunch today and enjoyed it. I had a roasted lamb sandwich in a pita with cucumber and goat cheese and some good skinny fries. I want to go back and try some of the entrees.

early evening meal near Gare de Bercy

I believe that L'Oulette is close to Gare de Bercy. I had a very nice meal there but it has been a while back.

Chinese- Asheville-HELP

I think that China Palace on Tunnel Road across from the Asheville Mall is the best that you can do here in Asheville.

I have several questions about culinary school....

I live in Asheville, NC and the local community college, A-B Tech (Asheville-Buncombe) has a culinary arts program with a two-year associates degree that has a good reputation. They have a baking and pastry arts program. Link below.

Lexington Ave. Brewery - Asheville

I tried the new LAB today. I was there about 1:30pm on Saturday and the place was packed. It was very cold outside and it seemed a little cold inside too, but I do like the new bar and the overall decor. I had the chocolate stout (very good) and a half pint of the Maerzen (good). I tried the sliders from the appetizer menu (3 for $7) and thought they were very good. The food and beer prices seem reasonable and appropriate. I'll definitely go back again.

Fried Calamari-Asheville

Modesto in the Grove Arcade has excellent fried calamari.

Prettiest and most picturesque winery?

I think that Matanzas Creek Winery in Sonoma is also very picturesque.

Bar Tartine dinner, nice!

I had dinner tonight (7/16/09) at Bar Tartine and had an excellent time. Very nice casual bistro type atmosphere. I had a refreshing house-made grapefruit soda that was delicious with the Tartine bread and butter. For a starter I tried the Chicken liver pate and it was excellent with toasted bread, grainy mustard, pickled red onion and nice arugula salad. For the main course I had the hanger steak (med rare) with warm bread salad, roasted cherry tomatoes and haricots verts. So good and a nice glass of Bordeaux (Ch. Parenchere, $9.50) was an excellent pairing. I even had room for dessert called Affogato, which was a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream in a cone glass with a double shot espresso poured overneath at the table. Yum. Total with tax and tip was $75 and a bargain for the quality.

Asheville Brewpub--Food and Beer

Jack of the Wood on Patton (just across the street from the Thirsty Monk) brews their own Green Man Ales and has a fairly good pub menu. Same owner as Laughing Seed and you can go upstairs from Jack of the Wood into Laughing Seed.

Sausage in Dirty Rice

My mom always used Jimmy Dean spicy bulk pork sausage and it was great.

What do you do with your Humboldt Fog?

I made a pasta dish (not my own) with goat cheese arugula and garlic that was awesome. Olive oil, garlic , pepper (your choice) salt and about 2 oz of goat cheese per serving in a bowl with some fresh arugula. Toss with hot pasta and server.

Chorizo - Huevos

Went to Chorizo Sunday morning and had the Huevos Rancheros and it was great! The two sunny-side up eggs sat atop some brown/red beans and grits (both delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned) with some corn tortillas. On the side were excellent ranchera salsa, guacamole, fresh salsa and two small patties of fresh chorizo with fennel. Perfect and at only $7.25 it was a great breakfast, especially sitting outside in the lovely weather. Service was adequate but nothing special considering the small crowd at about 9:15 am. Still it was probably one of the best breakfasts I have had in Asheville.

Asheville Breweries

There are several breweries and brewpubs in the Asheville area. The oldest is Highland Brewing who used to brew below Barleys Taproom on Biltmore across from Doc Chey's. Asheville Pizza and Brewing does brew their own beer (about 8 varieties of which Shiva IPA is probably the most popular) and their location at about 675 Merrimon Ave. in North Asheville serves a wide selection of pizza, sandwiches, salads etc. They also have another brewhouse on Coxe Ave. Jack of the Wood is downtown on Patton Ave. They make their on beer at a place on Buxton not far from there. They also have a pretty good selection of pub food. Two other breweries in the area are French Broad Brewing in the Biltmore Village area and Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain.

Newbie here, with a question re: Asheville for Vday

In the Biltmore Village area there are two places that get mentioned a lot. Rezaz is a great place for a romantic meal with Mediterranean cuisine. Around the corner from there is a place called Fig that I have not been to but seems to have a good reputation.

good wine shop is asheville

The Asheville Wine Market on Biltmore just down the street from Barley's is by far the best wine store in Asheville. I don't know if they have the particular thing you are looking for but they do have the most extensive selection in town.

Asheville: The new Old Europe

I've had several glasses of wine there over the past couple of weeks and the size of the pour has always seemed adequate, in the 4-5 oz range. Maybe the bartender was stingy that day.

Asheville: The new Old Europe

I think this is a little harsh. I have not tried the food but the wine by the glass is a reasonable value in a town with relatively high wine prices. They have about 8 or 9 roses right now in the range from $5.50 to $8.00 and about 4 whites and 4 reds by the glass in the same range. This is fairly typical in Asheville pricewise. For a coffeehouse, this is an extensive wine selection.
As for the food, people I have seen eating seem to be relatively satisfied and I have not heard that many complaints.

Asheville - Sante Wine Bar

A new wine bar opened in Asheville last week. It is called Sante and is at the end of the Grove Arcade by the old Battery Park hotel. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass (about 6-7 choices each of red, white and sparkling) and you can also buy by the bottle. In addition they have a menu of light foods to accompany the wines (cheese plates, olives , tapenade and other dips). I had a couple of nice reds last Wed. evening for about $7 a glass and a order of the tapenade that was more than enough for two people (with crackers and sliced baguettes) for only $5. The atmosphere inside is nice and there are also some tables available outside on the patio. This is a great new addition to the Asheville wine scene.

Savannah, GA in October--Recommendations?

I thought that Bistro Savannah was a great spot for dinner. Nice atmosphere and good food and wine.
