Desmond's - Groupon Deal

I do not recommend this restaurant.

Desmond's: Service was disappointing

Chowhound incorrectly associated this review with the wrong restaurant. It should be:

153 East 60th Street, New York, NY, 10012

Best EVER!!!!! [Southern Soul BBQ, St. Simon Island, GA]

Best barbecue I've ever had. My husband and I really enjoy barbeque, of all stules (Texas, NC, Tennessee, Kansas City, etc.). This is by far the best we have ever had.

I highly recommend this place and have been telling all of our friends and family to go there. This is an absolute must!

Husband and I flew into the St Simons airport and walked to the restaurant. What a treat, and a great little trip for GA enthusiasts looking for day trips.

Desmond's: Service was disappointing

Menu

1st: Pork Belly & Butternut Squash Soup
The pork belly was good. The apple salad that accompanied it was refreshing and it fit very well together. Other reviewers complained about the salt level, but my husband and I liked it. The Butternut Squash soup was flavorful and silky, we enjoyed it.

Main:
Husband had Fish and Chips with mushy peas. We enjoyed it. The fish was fresh and the portion was large. The mushy peas were great. This is British food all the way. If you don't like it, then i wouldn't choose this restaurant. We knew what to expect going in because we have spent time in london, and enjoy British cuisine.
I selected the duck shepherds pie. The dish was tasty, but did lack some of the flavors and textures i was looking for. Honestly I couldn't tell that the meat inside was duck. It could have been beef because the duck flavor was not distinct. This dissapointed me. Also, no side dish with it such as a small green vegetable which would have been nice. I just stole bites of Mushy peas from the hubby!

Dessert:
We shared sticky toffee pudding which left much to be desired. It was not heat properly and we waited on it FOREVER!

The food was good, not good enough to justify the prices.

The service was the worst we experienced during our entire stay in NYC. We waited 10 minutes before we were acknowledged by our server. It seemed that there were not enough staff on hand to adequately serve the dining room size. Very dissapointed here. I could go into much greater detail, but let's just say it was very poor.

Backup plan for Eleven Madison Park?

Good news! Thanks for the advice. I was able to get a table for Saturday night during our stay. I am going to suprise my husband and tell him we didn't get the reservation.

I will be sure to post about my trip here. Thanks CHOWhounds!

Backup plan for Eleven Madison Park?

I'm having the exact same problem getting a Rez at EMP in late January. I'm currently on the wait list for a party of 2 and I religiously check open table for openings. Any ideas on what to do next?

Trip Review: The Gage, Publican, Alinea, etc.

I will review in chronological order:

High Tea at The Peninsula - I don't recommend this. I have had high tea in London and Toronto at the premier places and this one doesn't cut it.

The Gage - We had an excellent evening at The Gage. Great service and excellent food. We really enjoyed the roasted beets and house smoked salmon. We also had the bison tartare which was very good and the soup special. The only average tasting dish was the braised rabbit salad. We enjoyed great draft beers and the guys had scotch and bourbon.

The Publican was a great choice for dinner. The place has great decor and we really enjoyed it. Food was great, especially the pork rinds, and the pork belly. The beets were also a great choice. Overall we were very satisfied. We also appreciated the desserts and beer lists.

Alinea is a once in a lifetime dining experience that I highly recommend. We even purchased the cookbook and the chef signed it for us. What an evening!

Piccolo Sogno was recommended by our server at Alinea. Great italian food at fair prices. The pastas were great and the salads spectacular. They even have their own propietary olive oil and balsamic that is great.

The Gage/ Best Hotel Bar

Is The Gage a good place to go for drinks and appetizers in the evening on a Thursday night? We are going to the free night (Thursday) at the Art Institute of Chicago and looking for a place in the area for drinks/appetizers.

What is the best hotel bar in Downtown Chicago? Any suggestions?

Questions on my chicago trip this weekend

I am also going to Chicago this weekend. We have made reservations at Alina and The Publican. We will also be doing brunch at David Burke's Primehouse. Have fun!

Fulton Market Area

We are traveling to Chicago and have reservations at the Publican on Friday night at 8:00 PM. Are there any good bars in that area for a nice cocktail? What about other things to do in this neighborhood?

Are there any markets in Chicago that we might be interested in? e.g. Borough Market in London?
