Metro west Mexican

I agree, with Keith, after living in Tucson & LA for over a dozen years, I have never found truly excellent Mexican on the East coast. including a number of years in NYC. But in my years away (I just moved back a few months ago)I also always craved Chinese from Ho Yeun Ting in chinatown or Grand Chow Chow, or way back to House of Toy & Henry's for soup! even though I think all have closed , Italian from the North End, Brigham's hot fudge, etc. Each area has its strong points I save my Mexican cravings for when i go beck to LA and visit, then I hit every roach coach and dive I love that has truly great food! Here I am still reveling in the flavors I missed for so long.

Favorite Bar/Pub on a Snowy Night?

It has been m a few years since I lived in the area (mid 90's) but the blackthorne tavern in Rt 138 in South Easton used to hit the spot on a cold and snowy day

Who makes the best pizza in New England?

The Pizza Barn, in Center Ossepie, NH Awesome Pies.....

Best Mexican?

Honestly there is no good Mexican in NY. Other Latin cuisine: Spanish, Caribbean, Central/South American yes; but not Mexican.

After 4 years in Tucson, AZ (Sonora & Chihuahua region cooking) and another 8 in Los Angeles (Baja, Jalisco, Michoacan, cooking), I have looked everywhere but have had no success that matches even the most mediocre fast food chain in either city, let alone some very delicious restaurants, dives, and roadside carts that I used to haunt.

Ho Yuen Ting Reborn - "Best Little Restaurant"

I have to agree my family has been going there almost weekly since the early 80's but I have been out of state for over a decade, I stopped by last in 2002 for dinner and to get an order of their won-ton soup for my mom when she was in the hopsital (I snuck it in for her) it was the last Chinese food she ever ate, she LOVED that place, glad to see it still runnning. one of the best places in town. Before that the House of Toy across the street in the 70's before the owners moved to Norwood where the food definately declined, but the peking duck & home made egg rolls were still good, and Henry's for soup (boy do I miss that place)

Good not-expensive sushi lunch in the village?

I work nearby and have yet to have a bad lunch there, I guess I never expected much as it is a lunch only place for me, not a real destination place.

On the other hand when I take out clients it is usually not on my list of places to go.

I guess it is all about expectations

Good not-expensive sushi lunch in the village?

Yama on Carmine between Houston & Bleeker. if you are eating alone and not drinking under 30 is manageable.

Manhattan fun dinner for adults

Manhattan fun dinner for adults

I know this is going to sound sad but I have worked in NYC for over four years (I moved here from LA in 2003) but live in the burbs and do not go out that often in the city. So outside of my normal lunch/business lunch fare in the West Village, and the occasional Theatre district pre show dinner I am pretty clueless to the NY scene.

My wife is turning 31 and has an old college friend coming down to visit and I want a fun place for us to go out for dinner then drinks/dancing. Although there are a ton of places I would love to go to, she is just not into what she would call “Fancy” food so French or New American cuisine is out of the question as is Sushi as she does not like fish. So all the things I want to try are off the list, but hey this is her birthday not mine.

I am looking for a young (we are all in our early 30’s) hip place that is not too food adventurous where we can have fun, then a place to go after that has good drinks and atmosphere that we will not have to wait for hours just to get in. And maybe a late night stop for dessert.

Any advice!!!
