Is it possible to burn your pizza stone
Thanks for the replies. The correct terminology may be that I "blackened the stone" but it very definitely gave off a burnt odor. I've had residual cheese leave burn marks, which I'm comfortable with, but this was half of the stone turning black.
I'll try rainey's suggestions and will definitely keep water away from the stone. I'll let you know what happens next time!
Is it possible to burn your pizza stone
Has anyone ever burned their pizza stone? I've had my stone for about 2 years and used it without problem. I always preheat it with the oven, never put soap on it but do use water to clean it. We moved into a new apartment and I read somewhere that you should put your pizza stone on the very bottom (not on a rack) so I decided to try both the new oven and the new placement of the pizza stone at the same time. After about 30 minutes the oven started smoking. When I looked in the pizza stone was smoking and half of it had turned black. It was very definitely BURNT. This has never happened previously. Has this happened to anyone? Can I use the stone again or is it ruined?
