Need a weeks worth of food in Fresno
Thanks for the suggestions
I will be working near the Roosevelt High School area. Still trying to pick a hotel. I was raised in Fresno (I can still remember the two public pools on Blackstone to show how long ago that was) and have very fond memories of the Tower District so that is why I was thinking that area.
The two childhood food types that I crave and are hard to find in other areas are Armenian and Basque.
Funny thing about the Fresno State Ice Cream. I took Dairy Science as one of my science courses at Fresno state and got to make ice cream and cheese. Thanks for the happy memory.
Need a weeks worth of food in Fresno
I am going to be spending almost a week in the south-east part of Fresno. It looks like so many of the ones discussed on this board are more to the North.
What are your suggestions? Since I will be working, I am looking for casual places. Some place in the tower district would be great and maybe sunnyside... and maybe a good bakery. I use to love the Buttercream bakery.
When you get hungry driving through Kingman Az
Kingman is the town that everyone travels through. Unfortunately, even travelers traveling through get hungry. Many people think their choices are limited to the fast food they see from the hiway. So I thought I would tell you about my two favorites that are both conveniently located close to 40 and Route 66 and won’t take too much time out of your schedule.
The first is the Redneck’s Southern Pit BBQ. This restaurant hasn’t been around less than a year but has made a big impact on the locals. It all started with a regular guy BBQing for friends and family. As everyone was groaning with pleasure, they would mention that he really needed to sell it. A couple of his brothers agreed with the friends and built him a trailer with smoker so he could go around to the fairs, rodeos, etc. and sell the BBQ. It is not surprising that at these events, people kept saying that he really needed to have a permanent place to sell the BBQ. Eventually, he did just that and opened up the Redneck BBQ.
Walking into Redneck is like walking into a friends or family BBQ party. It is casually decorated with the proper roll of paper towels on the tables. The food is fantastic and you can taste the care taken in the food. They have stuff baked potatoes along with the normal BBQ offerings of pulled pork and brisket, chicken, ribs and hotlinks. Ribs are severed only at night during Monday through Thursday but all day Friday and Saturday. Don’t get there to late because they sell out fast. My husband thinks the brisket is the best he ever has had and believe me when I say he has tried them all over the country. Of course they have side but I don’t go any further than the beans. Oh the beans. Odes should be written to those beans. I can dream about those bits of bacon swimming among those delicious beans.
Redneck’s is located in the old part of Kingman on Beale Street and has a parking lot associated with it. Drop on by. You will feel just like you are having dinner among friends instead of just a spot on the interstate. 420 E. Beale Street.
The second place is Bangkok Thai. This is the place that you have driven by and thought who would stop there? It is neat to a service station in a building that you would wonder if it was going to fall into the ditch it is next to. But next time, do stop. The food is good. Okay you are thinking “what does a cowboy town like Kingman know about Thai?” I have no idea but it better than many of the Thai restaurants that I have known in big cities. Who would have thought?
They serve more than just Thai so those who are afraid of heat are covered. In fact, that is the one drawback is if you ask for the food to be spicy, you get what would normally be 5 on a 1 – 10 scale. If you like your food really spicy, ask for double X. We have never had anything bad so experiment. This is a really small place so if you have a large party, you are going to need to get there early or late and avoid the rushes. 208 E Andy Devine Ave, Kingman
Taking 21 yo son to Vegas
You might look at Taos or Lavo for a special night. For more casual, try Kahunaville (especially eating in the bar), Grand Lux and Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba. If he is like many young men, sometimes quanity is important so maybe Wynn's buffet.
Fried Chicken in Arizona?
My husband loves fried chicken but really dislikes fried chicken and waffles. I would like to surprise him on our next Arizona roadtrip with fried chicken suggestions. What are your favorite Arizona fried chicken spots?
Las Vegas - This is what I have reserved - What would you change?
Definately skip Agave. If you want something really, really close to the hotel I would suggest the Kona Grill in the Boca Shopping Center. Otherwise, you might like Cafe Deia @ Flamingo and Grand Canyon. Not a fancy place but a relaxing one.
Or if you are really hungry and a meat eater, Via Brazil Steakhouse at the corner of Fort Apache & Charleston. Great food but you do leave in a meat coma.
Best Bar Crawl Food on Strip
I like the Nine Irishmen at New York, New York. It is a fun bar to hang out at.
Wine bars in Las Vegas? Suggestions
I would second Nora's. My favorite wine bar was the one on Charleston just east of Fort Apache on the south side of the street. I can't remember the specific name but was something like Blue.
