What to take for friends in San Francisco Hey All - I am going to visit some friends in SF for a few days. I was thinking of takin something (food or related) from new york on a flight. The flight leaves in the evening and gets there at late night so whatever I take will probably be eaten next morning (at the earliest). Any suggestions? I thought of pizza/bagels but pizza will not last (unless I get some frozen one but then what's the point) and bagels would be tough by morning. I couldn't think local artisanal (read Brooklyn :) ) goodies which wouldn't be available with equally good quality in San Francisco. I am left with pickles (Gus's or mclures or something) or some tea from McNulty's. Any suggestions would be appreicated. The only constraint is that it doesn't spoil on the flight and it *doesn't have pork*. |

Good restaurant around frenchmen street after midnight We'll be getting into New Orleans around midnight on a friday. Our hotel is on the corner of frenchmen and Decatur. Do you guys know of any good places around there that would be open late? |

Bricklane curry house has good samosas. Tamarind Tribeca has really good small (and expensive ) ones with anardaana and aamchoor. For takeouts there is a little subterranean punjabi deli near 1st and avenue A. I forget the name. |

Restaurants around the Preservation Hall We ended up going to the Bistro at the Maison de Ville. It was perfect. Thank you all for your suggestions |

Need: food theme suggestions for next New York trip You could do a not-so-common ethnic food theme : Western Chinese, Sri Lankan, Nigerian, Senegalese and so on. This'll force you to go around different neighborhoods. That's a good thing. |

Really depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for the usual "dosa/uttapam/idli" kind of place then Sarvanas and/or Chennai Garden. I prefer the latter. Although, Chola on 58th and 3rd has pretty good non-vegetarian south indian dishes. Look at the back of their menu. Many of them are mangalore style fish curries and they are delicious. ----- Chola |

Restaurants around the Preservation Hall hey Guys, we are flying into New Orleans late friday night and are catching a set at the preservation hall at 9. Do you guys have any favorites around the preservation hall?I know that the restaurants of the entire french quarter are close by but any place especially close by? I ask because we would have about 2 hours from the time we get to the hotel to the beginning of the show and it's Friday night so chances are service may not be the quickest. This would my girlfriend's first trip to New Orleans so her first taste of the city. Any suggestions appreicated ----- |

Solo diner looking for recommendations (in SoHo or West Village?) Terra blues is a good (cheap on non weekends) place for blues and close to blue note. Baoguette on Christopher is a great place for Vietnamese inspired food and sandwiches. |

Where to buy shrimp (and veggie) dumplings? Vanessa''s is greate. Dumpling man isn't bad either (not as cheap though) |

New York Hot dog and coffee near W4 has korean toppings for their hotdog. Fatty Crab has their signature fatty dog. Jimmy's no 43, at times, has my favorite gourmet dog (chorizo with grilled ramps). |

Sukhadia near rockfeller is an option as well. Pongal (at least in the past)and Chennai garden serve some Gujarati food (I know it sounds strange) but it's not that great. |

Best Indian Food in the City... What kind of Indian food are you looking for? If you are looking for the standard North Indian/Pakistani food For south indian food, I find "Chenna Garden" to be better than Sarvanas. You may want to try Chinese Mirch which serves Indian-Chinese cuisine. |

Favorite high end indian or thai restaurant For High-end Indian, I like Bombay Talkies in Chelsea or Tamarind in flat-iron. I like Tabla but you have to prepare yourself of Indianasque cuisine, not real Indian food. For, Thai, I don't really know. Spice Market , perhaps? |
