Best meal I ever ate:
Slim Jims at a country store in the middle of a 40 mile bike ride (we had foolishly skipped lunch).
My current drink of choice:
I really wish I could:
Speak 10 languages - for food, I'd pick English, Spanish, Mandarin, French, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Serbo-Croatian, and Turkish. No slight to Indian cuisine, but my impression is that you could get along fairly well in India using English.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Barbecue pork shoulder (which takes 12-plus hours to make and explains why I don't have many parties).
My favorite comfort food:
My most tattered cookbooks:
DC area only - Vidalia, Hong Kong Palace, El Charrito Caminante (judging by how often I eat there), Rocklands (yes, Rocklands), and Hai Duong. Elsewhere: Mother's (New Orleans), Oklahoma Joe's (Kansas City), Sims BBQ (Little Rock), Antiochia (Istanbul), Birreria Zaragoza (Chicago). (Of course, any list limited to the five best is silly).
