"Starbucks Demands Barista Remove Tattoo or Resign"

Funny. And example of we see what we want to see.

"Starbucks Demands Barista Remove Tattoo or Resign"

Starbucks doesn't come off as trendy in San Diego.
We have so many popular, smallerish coffee shops, that Starbucks almost seems anti cool. Perhaps the trendy cafes here draw the younger, hip crowd because the baristas are able to show their individual styles? At one very trendy coffee shop, we have an Axle Rose wannabe barista, complete with full sleeve tattoos and pretty large earrings. It doesn't turn me off to drinking or eating. But it does seem to be in stark contrast to the uniformed-Starbx baristas.

I've noticed a lot of young people in the hotel industry have to wear arm bands to cover ink on their arms.

"Starbucks Demands Barista Remove Tattoo or Resign"

I never realized Starbucks baristas were free of visible tattoos. Guess I'm so used to seeing baristas and cashiers (at Whole Foods) with ink.
In fact, here in San Diego I am in the minority for having no tattoos.

What do you all think of Starbucks's policy of no visible tats? Do you appreciate it? Do you not care? Does it seem antiquated? I wonder if they draw the line with ink so as to prevent any body piercings on their employees.

I'm so over...

So the derivatives are meaningless. But Genetically Modified Organism still has a concrete definition.

I'm so over...

My 62 year-old mother (with a PhD in economics) says "totes amazeballs" or "cray cray" in our conversations, to get a laugh out of me. Works every time.

San Diego New Restaurants: 2014

Sadly, I'm way too uncool for North Park. No Tacos Perla for me. I am hoping Golden Hill gets something new soon. Anything but another halfway house.

Can I join you in the Paranoid Weirdo group? My students' homemade food goes straight into the trash (when they're not looking.)

Dining in La Mesa: any suggestions?

Yes to Mario's de la Mesa! We used to go there every other weekend. Only wish they had tequila in their margaritas, not wine. Best machaca in San Diego.

Union Square Cafe Closing

Came on here to post about this. Am kind of shocked.
I can see WD-50 closing but now USC? That place is beloved by locals and travelling foodies alike.
What will be next? Eleven Madison Park?

what does San Diego need in its dining scene?

Chez Nous was in Central PHX--wish I knew where! No doubt Al Green was covered there by tons of musicians.
Was akin to "Char's", another popular Blues joint.

Well in my defense, I moved at age 28 so Durant's wasn't exactly tops on my list! This is nothing to brag about but I spent way too many Friday afternoons at the Macayo's Depot Cantina and Saturdays at Dos Gringos. A long, long time ago...

Foods you pronounce incorrectly.

I am weird, I like how it feels and sounds saying crêpe (crEHp vs "crayp") . Even better is how it tastes.

what does San Diego need in its dining scene?

I feel left out!
Lived in PHX 28 years and never got around to checking out Durant's.
Beach Chick, did you ever go to Chez Nous (the old location)? Sounds like a place you would have enjoyed, given your description about being in a place you can get lost with a date.

BlueRibbon Rustic Kitchen. Yes, indeed.

Went here Friday night with a large group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Friends had the vegetarian lasagna, short rib ravioli and the sweetbreads. We shared the vegan pasta with tomato sauce, brussel sprouts, and zucchini fries.

The pasta as probably the best I've had in SD. All of the old was terrific.

The birthday girl enjoyed the butterscotch pot du crème and she loved it.

Our servers were attentive, friendly, and spot-on with the cocktail and wine recommendations.

We were very impressed and will return soon. Great addition to the Hillcest area.

Urban Solace has a damn tasty quinoa burger (it is vegetarian but not vegan.)

Gazpacho sounds perfect for a warm summer day. It's off to Costa Brava I go....

Anyone who calls a waiter "garçon" should either be in a Tarantino flick or a Caraba's indeed.
