Boston Area Barbecue Restaurants
9, I went to Arthur Bryants in 1980 after reading about it from Calvin Trillin, long before Boston had any barbecue. Got there around noon time, stood in line, and met Arthur himself. I told him what brought me there. He smiled and gave me an Arthur Bryant mechanical pencil with a cow on top. Had delicious barbecue, brought ribs and sauce back to Boston. I got to show the pencil to Calvin Trillin some twenty years later and it brought back fond memories for both of us.
Otto in Coolidge Corner Open
It opened yesterday and was packed last night. Had three slices with my family, all very good. A welcome addition to CC.
Rt 1 Lynnfield question
It first opened in the sixties I believe, as The New England Seafood Restaurant.
Town Diner Anti-Customer Service
I had a similar problem at the Rosebud. I was there about 11:30 for a late breakfast. Two other diners in the place. I headed to a booth only to be told the same thing and that I would have to sit at the counter. Usually I wouldn't mind but because of a sore back, the thought of sitting at a stool was not appealing. I left. Walked by later and the place was still pretty empty.
Chicken Feet (preferably kosher or local) in Boston
Not sure but you could try Mayflower Poultry in Cambridge. I think that I once got some from Savenor's.
Pizza slices: variety & high quality?
I tried Ecco in Allston for the first time and find it very promising. I'll have to try it again to make sure. Very conscientious owner. Also Emma's for a slice and when I'm back in my old home turf I usually stop at Bianchi's on Revere Beach (cheese slices only).
Best in Stowe, VT
Hen of the Wood in nearby Waterbury is a MUST. Make a reservation early and don't miss it.
Ecco Pizzeria Allston
just tried a slice and was very pleased. The owner is a student of pizza and is striving for perfection. I must go back to try a whole pie. The menu included several seafood options, clam, shrimp, and scallop. Now I don't have to cross the river for an Emma's slice when this is in my own backyard.
Bob's Lobster-Plum Island
On this beautiful day I headed to the North Shore with some friends. Rather than stopping at the usual places, Essex Seafood or the Clam Box, we had lunch at Bob's. Delicious lobster rolls, special today for $10.50, and the fried clams, the best I've had in quite a while.
Pizza, pizza.....north of Boston
Angela's Coal Fired Pizza. Rt 1 north. Try the wings also.
Otto's Pizza coming to Coolidge Corner
This was already mentioned in the February Openings thread but I thought I would mention it seperately. Otto's Pizza is taking over the Friendlys Express sight in Coolidge Corner. They will have seating for about 60 (I was told) and work is progressing. Hopefully they will open soon. They are across from the theatre and Upper Crust. Nice to have an alternative to UC and good pizza in an area lacking in an exceptional pie.
Which Restaurants do you consider your "Regulars"
I've gotten lazy in my senior years so I stick close to my Coolidge Corner neighborhood but here is my list:
Dok Bua
Dorado
Sechuan Gourmet
Sullivans
Galleria Umberto
Greek Corner
Bianchi's
Gari
Where to buy bluefish pate around Boston?
Russo's now carries Capt. Dave's Cape Cod bluefish pate. Very good.
Saturday night challenge in Newton: quick dinner options
The Biltmore serves food. Is food going to be served at the party?
Mac's Place in Grafton VT
While driving around SE Vermont, we stopped at Mac's Place in Grafton for lunch. We weren't expecting much but the grandkids had to eat.. This isa small country place behind the Inn, wood stove, locals and tourists. My lunch was delicious. Had tomato and cheddar soup, rich and chuncky and very flavorful. Then the grilled cheese and bacon, perfectly made, crispy bacon and of course, Grafton cheddar. Hit the spot. A perfect Vermont lunch.
Mangia Pizza, Brookline (Village)
Stopped in recently for a slice. Seems different. Has there been a change in ownership?
Winsor Dim Sum Chinatown Sunday: Decided We must try for the first time from the western 'Burbs
People have been putting Chau Chow City down for a while but I went on New Years day and found it to be pretty good. Not as busy as the old days and not as many offerings, but still good and with enough variety to keep ten of us happy.
Sunday brunch reservations for group of 8 - Boston/Brookline/Newton/Watertown ?
Am I too late? In addition to The Fireplace in Brookline, there is also Lineage and Cognac Bistro.
Cheesecake in and around Cambridge
Mustard Cup on Mass Ave. Oops, that was forty years ago.
Late night slice
Not too far from Bianchi's on Revere Beach. One of the best slices around.
Cheap groceries? Moving to Brookline area,,..from out of state
Be patient, Wegman's is coming in 2013.
REC for Dinner after a move into Coolidge Corner
Reegle Beagle in CC would be a good bet. Hip bar with and interesting menu.
Condado Beach and Vieques Help
Spending a few days in Condado Beach then Vieques. Love to eat good, local cuisine, seafood etc. Would appreciate any help. Good breakfast near La Concha and lunch and dinner in Old San Juan suggestions also appreciated. Thanks.
Remember Bob Lee's?
Emperor Garden on Washington St. It's in an old movie theatre and you are under a wonderfully decorated ceiling and stage.
