Bird's nest soup in Austin?

Does anyone know of a restaurant serving bird's nest soup? I've been unable to find it anywhere, not surprisingly.

Restaurant for Saturday - Crispo? Asiate?

I'm coming to NY last minute this weekend and am looking for a place for Saturday night. I've scoured the boards and most places I've tried are booked. I'm open to anything, I just want a great overall experience. I've found that Asiate and Crispo still have openings, and considering Il Cortile as well. Any other ideas? I lived in NYC 5 years ago and am from Texas- very excited to be coming back for a quick weekend!!

FRIED CHICKEN IN AUSTIN??

I have to say, that fried chicken at The Highball is one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. Incredible.

Who makes Empanadas

The husband and wife duo behind mmmpanadas are good friends of mine. They make incredible empanadas. The green chili chicken, asparagus & prosciutto and spinach & mushroom are my top 3. Highly recommend checking them out.

What to order - Thai Food

madam mam's definitely does a tom yum - a few different varieties, in fact. my favorite is their guay teaw tom yum gai (NS8).

Barley Swine: Brick and Mortar Restaurant From The Man Behind Odd Duck

i can't stand them either. especially in a 'nicer' restaurant like this, i was fairly surprised. i guess i can understand the pairing of small plates with communal tables, to correlate the 'sharing' vibe. also perhaps they were building on the picnic bench style of odd duck. who knows. but i'm with you, not a fan. i was trying to have a nice date, but the people sharing our table was a group of 5 that were pretty drunk and pretty loud. pretty annoying.

Barley Swine: Brick and Mortar Restaurant From The Man Behind Odd Duck

oh, i didn't know that - that's cool that those others do allow that. however, i'm also unsure if barleyswine only sells beer and wine. they have a large bar, but we only ordered wine. i didn't think to look for a cocktail menu.

i do not know for certain, but considering they sell their own bottles and glasses, i highly doubt it.

Barley Swine: Brick and Mortar Restaurant From The Man Behind Odd Duck

no, it's not BYOB. they have a nice bar with a good wine list. correct about the crowd, at least when i was there. yet i fit the demographic as well...

Barley Swine: Brick and Mortar Restaurant From The Man Behind Odd Duck

went a couple nights ago. agreed, everything was at least good - and the sweetbreads and the roasted brussels sprouts were favorites. not a fan of communal tables and the place is very loud (due to its small size and proximity of patrons) - made for a difficult evening with a quiet-talking date.

nevertheless, we had a great time and the food was excellent. everything is served small-plates style, so be prepared for little food and a high bill. in addition to the above, we had the spiced carrots (excellent) and the grilled steak (quite good, as well) and 4 glasses of wine (a malbec, at $8.50, being the cheapest glass by a long shot). our bill came to $89.

i think it is a bit overpriced, but would definitely go back - maybe with a big group, though.

Olivia, La Condesa, Parkside , Aquarelle and Wink - have five reservations and can only keep two

i have to agree with thereman - you've named a handful of the best spots in town, but for the scene/vibe you're looking for, i would also suggest La Condesa and Parkside.

Odd Duck Farm To Trailer-Food Cart on South Lamar

yes, odd duck is fantastic! i love that they make use of the full animal, and are locally sourced, 'farm to trailer.' my friend (and fellow chowhound poster) NWLarry introduced me to the wonders of odd duck.

my last visit included the pork belly slider which was outstanding, and the grilled broccoli salad with pork loin and goat ricotta. i mean, just take a look at my pork belly slider: http://tinyurl.com/yew3n33

odd duck is the brainchild of bryce allen, son of jack allen - the man behind z'tjeas and jack allen's kitchen.

"I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today ": Best Hamburger in Austin

i went to your mom's today and agree with glorpisgod - i think their menu and the potential of what the descriptions offer is a lot better than the actual product. they've only been open 3 weeks, so maybe it will get better.

my favorite burger in town is served at mulberry. it's pricey at $14, but well worth it. it's made with pancetta, gruyere, tomato and topped with a fried egg. absolutely to die for.

other favorites include the aforementioned black sheep lodge and burger tex - however, only the burger tex on guadalupe. the rest don't have it down quite like that location.

texas monthly's top 50 burgers in texas states the burger at the counter cafe is way up there, but i've never tried it. anyone?

Prime Rib in Austin

it was good, but doesn't compare to their filet. prime rib is definitely not my favorite, though, so i may be a bad judge. in fact the only reason i ordered it on sunday was because this thread got it in my head!

Prime Rib in Austin

I just drove by Backstage in Spicewood and I'm pretty sure their marquee stated that they would have prime rib for their Easter special on Sunday. If it's as good as their steak, which is the best I've ever had, it's sure to be incredible.

Visiting Austin, looking for steakhouse tips

tom, Backstage is equally as glorious as it once was. my family has a house in spicewood, so we eat there quite often - i have yet to be let down. it's still the best steak i have ever had in my life. very worth the 30-40 minute trek.

Best Sports Bar NOT Downtown

another suggestion - mister tramps sports pub and cafe up north off 183. went there for a grammy-watching party and it had the typical smattering of televisions, however the food was stellar. i was really impressed with the sliders. 30 some-odd beers on tap as well.
(i don't know why this is repeating again below - i tried to edit it but alas.)
