Ethnic in Cleveland

I just moved to farm country in north central Ohio from southern Florida and I am in deep need of a good ethnic food fix. I will be in Cleveland next week and was wondering if there was a good place for either Bahn Mi or if anyone knows of a good Cuban bakery where I can can get some Pastilles? Thanks all.

Chili help-put in too much beer!

I know this is well after the fact, but someone with a similar problem may stumble on this, and I would want to be of help to them. First of all beer chili should always have a touch of honey. If your beer is over the top, exrta honey will help but don't over sweeten. Second, the posters above are right, beereeness steams off a bit so be patient with it.

Looking for Cuban in Pittsburgh

As a South Florida resident looking to transplant to the Pittsburgh I was wondering if there was any chance to find a Cuban bakery in Pittsburgh. I am particularly looking for pastilles.

Jumbo Lump Joe's Cape Coral

I was curious about a little food truck on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral called Jumbo Lump Joe's so I stopped in today for lunch. I had the Jumbo Lump Crab sandwich and the onion rings. Both were outstanding. The sandwich was full of big chunks of crab, the sauce which he makes had just the right spice. Good onion rings too. Real onions, nicely battered, crisp and hot. These were also served with one of Joe's special sauces which was a nice companion to the rings. I would be curious to see what others think. I have also noticed a food cart at the corner of Pine Island and Del Prado (tacos) and another in the parking lot next to the Aluminum supply store (BBQ). I would love to hear reviews on those too.

Florida food trucks/street food?

On Cape Coral Parkway in Cape Coral there is a Gyro and Schnitzel truck. How these two foods wind up in the same truck is anyone's guess. But the Greek food is good, and the hot tsatsiki is great, if you are a reallllly spicy fan (like I am). I can only guess about the schnitzel. It is in a gas station parking lot near McDonalds.

staying in pine island.....need recommendations!

If you are a parrot head (as I am) you have to go to Cabbage Key to get the cheeseburger of legend from the Jimmy Buffet song. Just remember, the legend is that Jimmy had been stuck on his his boat longer than his supplies had held out. So when he arrived at Cabbage Key he had been living on canned beans for way too long, so the cheeseburger was paradise, but not because it was a great cheeseburger unto itself. Go, leave a buck on the wall, get the mediocre cheeseburger, go home and tell your friends you had a "Cheeseburger in Paradise"

Pine Island and Matlacha SW FL

Though the food is not anything to write home about, the pie at Captain Con's in Bookelia is pretty good, and they have a large selection. Though the location is appropriately dive-ee

Hickory BBQ Fort Myers

Thx, I am not too picky about sauce, partially because I am a South Carolina mustard guy and you can only get that in SC, but the q must be pit roasted and pulled and not sliced. It should never be chewy. Biscuits are a southern sacrament so bad ones are unforgivable. I keep hearing the the old Hickory BBQ had the best Coconut cream pie ever. Shame that the new one isn't up to snuff. Sounds like you saved me a trip.

Dinner between MCO and Disney

off of the Buena Vista exit there are plenty of chain restaurants, and that is as close to where you will be as you can get. I recommend Chevy's if you like tex mex style Mexican. The food is good and it is a VERY kid friendly environment. (the corner of 535 and Hotel Plaza Blvd which is the road your hotel is on). Don't rule out Downtown Disney though Bongo's, Gloria Estefan's Cuban themed restaurant is fairly good (though about as authentic Cuban as Chevy's is Mexican), Raglan road has a really good little Irish Chip Shop on the back, and a nice menu inside, and the Earl of Sandwich has a wonderful sandwich called the All American. If you want to go into town International Drive has every themed restaurant you can think of. If you like Thai try Thani Thai. It does not look like much from the outside but is nice inside and only one of a few Thai restaurants in the USA approved by the Thai government's cultural ministry as a representative of the Thai culture.

lunch in orlando area on sat.

Honestly the Ravenous Pig rules the Orlando food scene. And their burgers make everyone else look like McDonalds. Honestly. But it is a wee bit more upscale, with price to match.

Moving to Columbia, SC and need restaurant recommendations

It is an absolute hole in the wall, but the Thai food at the Bangkok Restaurant on Garners Ferry rocks! Don't blink, you will miss it.

The burgers at Angelo's Zesto Burger on Main street cannot be beat, though the neighborhood could be.

Last but not least go to to 5 points and poke around, get a sandwich at Groucho's. While there get a coffee at Adrianna's and a gelato. Man I miss that place.

The Double Door is the true dive gem of Charlotte. Best Blues in the city. And where else can you sip cheap beer, listen to blues, and sit in a school desk

Savannah with Kids - Help Fill in Our List!

If you are doing Savannah with kids, you should go to the Pirate House. The food is a 7.5 out of 10 but the atmosphere is fun for kids and adults. It is a historic old pub/restaurant that has been in operation since 1753 and for that reason alone should be on your itinerary. Also you aught to make a stab at Lady and Sons, Paula Deen's restaurant. It isn't fru-fru-ee or high concept. They make their reservations daily, not weeks in advance so if you call early in the morning you have a shot at a table. Worth the time, great food.

Do all farmers markets in Florida stink?

A few thoughts:

1.Cape Coral has a good on on Saturdays. It does have lots of non-farmer vendors but they have good products. Try the authentic Welch Pasties, especially the curry vegetable ones, they rock. Lots of produce vendors too.

2. For legal reasons this one is not called a farmer's market (Florida over regulation at it's best) but in the Gateway community of Fort Myers Trinity Lutheran church has started a weekly "Harvest Festival" which aims at helping local farmers stay sustainable. All local, all fresh Sat 9 am to 1 pm.

3. There is a you pick farm north of Fort Myers on 41. Can't remember the name, but you do not get fresher than produce you pull off the plant yourself.

4. On 17 between the Gulf coast and Orlando there are dozens of local run farm stands. Some look scary but all have good local produce. It may look more like Mexico than Florida but don't let that put you off, the people are friendly and the produce straight from the fields. That said there is a big flea market about an hour - hour and a half outside of Orlando on 17 that has a little taco stand on the weekends. Stop and taste what a taco is supposed to taste like, you will thank me. It looks run down but don't let that intimidate you.

Tough one - Best Restaurant in Florida?

Let me second Le Coq au Vin and Michael's Genuine Food, As to inconsistency at Ravenous Pig, I am sooooo sorry to hear that, but I have had the best meals of my life there so I would say take the risk,

Nashville - end of March

Let me second the nomination of the Loveless Cafe for breakfast and add to that the Pancake Pantry for breakfast. Both are can't lose options. A side note, expect a wait at the Pantry, a long one. But, it is worth it.

Where is Ravenous Pig in this list??? RP in Orlando rocks...Changing seasonal menu, Chef owned, Sustainable practices, creative menu.... The Charcuterie is outstanding. Love the sweetbreads with the truffle gnocchi. Outstanding service with exceptionally well informed wait staff. BTW make reservations. It is essential.

Let down in Lee: Ted's at Coconut Pointe and Cantina Laredo at The Bell Tower

What a shame. I learned to make good guacamole there. It seems to be an issue here in Lee county. Whenever we get a good chef, or a good restaurant it gets dumbed down to lowest (tourist) common denominator. I remember when Leapin' Lizard here in Cape Coral had outlandishly good food for a Key West style bar, and now, it is just bar food. If it wasn't for good Cuban pastiles I would say all hope was lost.

NASHVILLE

For Breakfast, if you don't want to drive to the Loveless Motel, then spend the time in line going to the Pancake Pantry. It is a local favorite for breakfast and it never disappoints. (unless you are impatient and don't like waiting in line to go in) Get the sweet potato pancakes and sweet cream sauce to go on them. It does not get much better.
