Birch Restaurant, Palo Alto? On Birich Street near California Ave.
This restaurant is from the same people as Bistro Elan on California Ave., which is one of my favorites. It may be open for lunch only -- I'm not sure about any details.

Smoked Salmon Brunch Pizza at Rose’s Cafe (San Francisco)
Over the past 5 years, my sister and have met about once a month for breakfast at Rose's (we once sat outside next to Sean Penn and watched him get a parking ticket, but I digress). We are feeling virtuous, we eat poached eggs. When we are feeling naughty, we share the smoked salmon pizza. We prefer being naughty. It is definitely one of my favorite breakfasts in SF.
La Corneta in San Carlos
Good news in San Carlos -- La Corneta has opened another outpost on San Carlos Ave., right between El Camino and Laurel St. -- no more schlepping to Burlingame. The food is tasty, the service is terrific, and the space is bright and cheerful. My family doesn't eat pork/beef/chicken, so I can't comment on many of the most popular items. I will say the ceviche taco has a nice cilantro bite and comes with lots of avocado slices on top. Plus, I confess that I am a sucker for sangria. Warning -- when they turn the music up, it gets very loud.

Need Recs for Pres Day Weekend
Thanks guys -- this is going to be a huge help, so keep it coming.
Now I have one more question -- when we were in SD a few years ago, we ate at a cute brunch/lunch place in La Jolla -- it was like an old house and had seating on a front patio. What is the name of this place and is it still around?
Need Recs for Pres Day Weekend
We will be in SD for a tournament this coming weekend and need some suggestions for delicious restaurants. We live in the Bay area and are pretty adventurous eaters, but I can't get a feel for our options in SD. We enjoy various Asian cuisines, Mexican etc. and a solid French bistro would be welcome. We want to avoid chain restaurants. We are staying at the Doubletree at Hotel Circle (not sure what neighborhood that is) and will have a car.
Outside/garden seating in SF/Peninsula (like @ Brix)
Bistro Elan on California Ave. has far better food than Empire Tap Room and has a very nice garden patio in back.
