Dinner with college kids

Thank you all.., went to Texas de Brasil...it was perfect...the boys enjoyed stuffing themselves with meat .and I thought it was delicious. I will keep all the recs for when our move here is completed in a few months. Thanks again for all your help. !

Thanks for all the recs... We're staying at the Drake.... didn't realize downtown meant so many neighborhoods ... I 'll have to learn because we're moving to Chicago permanently in the fall!

We are visiting our son who is a freshman in college and taking him and four buddies out to dinner tomorrow...staying downtown and looking for something that would be fun for them but have really good food for us...any suggestions? Need help with this as we don't know Chicago

I've been looking for banh mi for awhile out here in Newton, didn't realize we had one as close as Bobolicious. Haven't gotten there yet but imagine my surprise when I was at the Whole Foods on Washington St yesterday and they had them in their prepared sandwiches. Never having had one before, not an expert, but thought it was delicious!

Atelier vs The Mansion

Going to Las Vegas this coming weekend ... and have reservations at both but need to choose one and need some help! Price isn't much help as the four course tasting at the menu at the Mansion seems similar to the tasting menu at Atelier . So would like to base the decision on food , please help!

Thank you all ... found a recipe for Galatoire's Spinach Rockafeller, may go with that . a little rich ...
or other spinach or zuchinni ... this is for a dinner group so someone else has salad ... don't have any experience with mirlitons... you get them in an asian produce store?

Need a vegetable side dish for shrimp etouffee and can I start the etouffee the day before?

I am making shrimp etouffee next weekend ( from Chef Paul's Louisiana Kitchen) and I will serve it with rice but need another side dish. We're having a group dinner with a New Orleans theme so want to make something that will go. Also one person in our group is allergic to eggplant so that's ruled out. And I'm a little short of time on the actual day so I was hoping to get started the day before, can I make the etouffee up to the point that I add in the shrimp? Also the recipe calls for a cooking time after adding the shrimp for 5-7 minutes which seems like a long time for shrimp, does it need less time? Thanks

Dim Sum Metrowest with carts?

Hi- I'm looking for a place in the western suburbs or Brookline etc that serves good dim sum from carts .... My son wants to go for graduation, loves ordering from the carts and we'll have too many elderly to bring to Chinatown and too many cars to park. I'd appreciate any help with this. Thanks

I have a call in to La Refuge, Square Meal no longer has a private room and doesn't do private parties on Saturdays. Does anyone know Primavera's private room? Basement wine cellar? And how is the food there? Haven't been there for several years. I'm trying to do this long distance, don't live in NY so any help appreciated.

I am having a surprise birthday dinner for an 85 year old relative for somewhere between 15-30 people. Most of the guests are older and a number live on the upper east side ... trying to minimize traveling for them. Also looking for a place that will have a private space we can use. Italian, French or American is good. I'm planning on about $100/person. Haven't been able to find the right place and I'm running out of time. Thanks

So is there any reason not to rinse the bird before you dry it and let it rest? And wash off any excess salt that way? Also how did the dry bring work out when you only had 1 extra day?

Earth Pan vs Cuisinart Green Gourmet vs Starfrit ?

I would like to buy a non PTFE, non PFOA nonstick pan. Even if its unclear how harmful the older types of non stick are, I need to replace my non stick . Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Is food sticking really an issue with all of these? Any preference? Thanks
