Dinner recommendation in Central Jersey

We ended up going to Loucas. The place was nice and quiet (understandably so for a Wednesday night). They had a nice menu with pretty good specials. We all felt the appetizers were good, but the entree's were average at best. The BYO option helped.

All in all, the experience was good going to a new place, but I'm not sure if we'll be going there again :)

Thanks! Loucas looks nice, will keep that into consideration.

Pithari Taverna doesn't have pictures of the restaurant (sorry, I prefer seeing what the place looks like from inside if I've never been and am taking a group of people there for the first time).

Also, stumbled upon a suggestion in another post for Zeina (Turkish / Meditteranean) in Highland Park. Has anyone have any good/bad experience with it?

FYI, the link to the restaurant wasn't on Chow so added one just now.

Need a romantic spot for anniversary dinner in Central NJ

As mentioned, Central NJ is pretty big. If you consider Red Bank as part of the region, I'd recommend you check out Nicholas. Though a bit steep in price, the food, ambiance and service are all top class.

Dinner recommendation in Central Jersey

My wife's birthday is coming up on a weekday and to keep the tradition going, we're trying to get together with our friends to have dinner at a nice place. Problem is that we live near Red Bank and our friends are in the Piscataway area. Since we all need to go to work the next day, I am trying to find someplace central for all of us to go. (Though it could be a drive for us, no problem, but would be nice if it was more convenient for our friends.)

FWIW, she particularly likes Thai (she likes Splash of Thai in Somerville), Middle Eastern (her favorite is Sahara in New Brunswick) food. Could someone be nice enough to recommend something good?

Thanksgiving in Santa Monica/LA

At LA Live :) We had a big brunch at Omelette Parlor in Santa Monica (lot of food, taste was average IMO) and got to the Staples Center at 6. We had a few hours to kill before dinner, so decided to checkout Unstoppable at the movies (great movie, BTW!). Filled up with overpriced large popcorn, pizza and nachos. Sad, I know :)

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Thanksgiving in Santa Monica/LA

My wife and I are on a west coast vacation trip and will be driving to Santa Monica/LA from San Francisco the night before thanksgiving. Looking for advise from the locals on what we could do on Thanksgiving, including any good places to visit and/or to eat that might be open? For what it's worth, we both enjoy authentic food that we normally wouldn't find in the NY/NJ area.

Thanks in advance!

Best "outdoor Restaurant"?

What's your take on the place with best outdoor seating experience in/around Central Jersey? Now that the weather has started to look better, we're always on a lookout for a good restaurant (doesn't matter what they serve) with great outdoor experience.

Salang Kabob House - Toms River

I was recommended by someone at work to go checkout this "hole in the wall". I looked it up and found this review, which got me motivated and excited. Unfortunately, I had a REALLY bad experience. The lady (or her husband) were not in the restaurant when we arrived. There were two people there. One African American, who was from Philly and was somehow related to the owners, and the other who was also related and had been in the country for only a week or so. He didn't speak a word of English.

Bottom line is that the owner(s) were nowhere to be found and the two apps we ordered were "already prepared" (as was told to us by the guy from Philly). The food seemed stale and had no taste to it. So, we simply paid for the apps, left the place disappointed and went to the Jamaican food place not too far away from Salang.

I'm all for trying out such places and supporting the owners as much as possible, so I might give them another chance, but just a FYI to anyone trying to go there -- make sure to call ahead and make sure the owner/chef are available when you get there.

Sushi in Central Jersey? [Moved from Tristate board]

My first post here. I love Sushi and have tried almost every Sushi place on the Rt 35 stretch. If you don't mind driving a bit south towards West Long Branch, I'd recommend "Izu Sushi". By far the best Sushi place there is in this area.
