Too much corn on the cob! Help me use it!

Jeni's first ice cream book has a recipe (Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home by Jeni Britton Bauer).

I have an okra question too -

Don't use a food processor to slice or chop it unless you want the slime to turn to rubber bands. In this case slime is better.

I like to cut the tops off, trying not to cut into the pods. Then I quarter the pods vertically and fry them quickly in olive oil.

What I Learned After Taking a Homeless Mother Grocery Shopping

I like to think of them enjoying the fresh cherries. I can't because of allergies (cooked works) and I wish I could join them. Fortunately, I _can_ cook them.

Pressure cooking pork tenderloin

Is this a tenderloin or a loin? Both are very lean.

How to make chicken salad?

Have we given you enough information? Basically, it's chicken (which may be cooked in a number of ways as long as it's cooked), some sort of dressing such as oil and vinegar or mayonnaise, and other ingredients as desired. Some people like grapes and add curry powder to the dressing. Some people like more sour things like tomatoes.

Driving [Niagara Falls, NY to Lake George]

Which lake? You'll pass quite a few.

A standard recommendation is Dinosaur Barbecue in Syracuse. The Syracuse location is always busy, so a late lunch is highly recommended, unless you're there for an early dinner. There's also a branch in Troy.

There's also Elderberry Pond between Auburn and Skaneateles.

I don't know how your tastes lie, but here are two opposites.

Greek Restaurant in Fayetteville Mall.

King David's? I've only been in the Marshall St. one so I can't speak to the barrels.

Food Processors and the D word.

I've found the french fry blade for my Cuisinart CFP-5A is a pretty good precursor to a dice.

What would you do with 1 lb. of ground pork?

Not tahini, the sesame seeds aren't toasted. A Chinese toasted sesame paste would be better.

OK.... ok .. i'm giving it up, my secret way to cook polenta that is so easy you will do it again and again

It's the volcanic plops of hot polenta that make it difficult for me.

question for european visitors... what surprised you the most about american restaurant culture

Although for me it was Latin. The structures taught me a lot about how syntax works.

Help! I'm allergic to meat and love bacon!

And be very careful how much liquid smoke you add to anything. A drop can be too much, depending on volume of food being seasoned and overall seasoning.

I closed out of Safari and only just came back. I really don't think there has been much improvement.

Bouncing page/automatically refreshing

I didn't think there was an Adblock for iPad, but there is! However, it doesn't seem to be blocking ads. Maybe it's less bouncy, but they're still there.

You don't need the sugar. There's plenty of white stuff in the recipe to feed the yeast.

Follow-up to the thread on catering to in-laws' Midwestern tastes (boy, did I open a can of worms!!!)

Thank you. It's really helpful to have more of the back story. I can see you are working with a difficult situation.

Best ingredient guide cookbook?

I think this is something you need to create. Books are a point in time. Online would be better than print since it's subject to frequent change. A lot of bits and pieces are around, but not a big organizer.

Well, it would be nice. Who are adults here? Any change is on their plates. Actually, the one I feel most sorry for is the MIL who stands between the great grandmother and the OP.

And we don't actually know what the birthday boy wants, only what his mother is expecting he will want.

I managed to unhinge my grandmother by coming to the dinner table barefoot. Of course, she didn't let me know, but put my mother through the wringer later. And then, in the era of barely cooked vegetables (she grew up with boiling spinach for an hour), I served her basically raw green beans.

Catering to relatives who don't want "exotic" food

Do the grandparents (and great grandparents) have to be labelled "selfish and entitled" because they are severely challenged by unfamiliar situations? We all have zones of comfort and discomfort, beets, Brussels sprouts and chicken feet to name a few food-specific ones.

Precisely why the OP should consider all parties involved. It's hard to believe you will ever have this problem yourself, but the OP might think about how she wants to be treated when she is old and what sort of an example she's setting for her son.
