kid friendly that adults can tolerate

My fall back joint for kids, without being a "kid" place - is Schiller's Liquor Bar downtown. Simple and tasty international comfort food, and the kids always have fun.

Looking for Good Drinks Near James Beard House (11th street and 6th Avenue

On 19th and 6th is one of my favorite bars, Flatiron Lounge - very fun, touch of class, with a throwback vibe. There's also the 1920's speakeasy Raines Law Room on 17th and 6th. If you go between Sun-Tues they'll take reservations if you send an email to reservations@raineslawroom.com by 3pm and let them know the number in your party and phone number.

dessert for valentine's day --manhattan???

Just for a different take - I go for the more fun and a bit less fancy types of dessert. Mine are always one of these 3:
1. Bannana Pudding from Magnolia
2. The "composte cookies"and a few jars of "cereal milk" from Milk Bar
3. Chocolate Chip and Walnut cookies from Lavain Bakery.

looking for a good bistro on UWS?

I agree - West Branch for me has been just OK and the atmosphere is a little bland. Cassis is my fallback for great french bistro food. There's also Nice Matin on 79th.

Places to eat 56th and 8th nyc?

I was in high school from out of state not too long ago and man - I used to love to just have lunch at the hot dog stands and carts on the streets. I know to us who live here, they seem meh, but to a kid - it seemed so fun, kind of adult and something you can only get in NYC., cause really, every mall has a pizza place.

Dinner with kids near Times Square

I like Becco too - but I've never thought of it as a "kid place" - where as Carmines, to me, is like an Italian Chucky Cheese with all the 4 year old birthday parties they have going on.

Dinner with kids near Times Square

If you have a big group (Over 5 people), Carmine's is a good choice too. Served family style, it's classic Italian American. The desert "The Titanic" is a giant ice cream sundae has always been a big hit with the kids.

Where can a couple of 40-yo married guys go for drinks?

I'll bring another take on this evening. You ARE away from the kids for the night. Take advantage of it. Go to Keens and get great steaks, then go to Ricks Cabaret. Or go to DBGB for sausages and beer, then go play pool at Ace Bar. Get out of control. Make bad decisions. Those are great stories. You go around once.

Romantic Upper West Side restaurant

I had an anniversary at Ouest, so that should count for something. But I felt we had a really romantic night when we went to down to the Time Warner Center for dinner at Landmarc and then drinks at Stone Rose, on a couch looking out the huge windows over Columbus Circle.

Looking For Dinner Rec's Near West 3rd

I agree Otto is great, if you aren't getting pizza. I think it's all about the pasta and the wine.

Looking for a COZY, ROMANTIC restaurant in Manhattan!!

Celeste on the UWS, great and super affordable italian - but go on an off night to avoid the rush dinner time which can get quite busy. I also just had a romantic dinner at David Burke's FishTail on the UES, which offers a great $35 3 course pre-fix.

What Crowd Goes To The Campbell Apartment

As an Ad Agency guy - the Campbell apartment is a great venue for an event. I've had a few there. BUT it depends how you are doing it. If you are getting the ENTIRE place, everyone will love you. It's sophisticated but with vintage cool and it's wide open for people to mingle and get loud telling stories. If you are only getting the upstairs, or a side couch area, it can get a little tight and the crowd will be PACKED with douchey commuters between 6-8:30 M-F. They do have a dress code there - so creatives will have to dress up slightly, which they won't mind (Dressing up is the new dressing down).

Moving to midtown east..... am I screwed for good cheaper eats?

I work in this part of town - and I agree with everyone - it's no village. But there are some good finds. When I work late, I always grab the Hakata Ramen from Menchanko Tei on 45th and 3rd. $9 and it's great.

Suggestions for a 16 yr old and her friends in Manhattan - not a chain

Oh come on - that's a bit harsh. This isn't for a state diner - it's for teenagers. Jay Z eats there, they have a giant fortune cookie full of chocolate mouse! Would you prefer Buddhakan?

I say Tao on the upper east side, only a few blocks from the park and you can tell her it was in Sex and the City.

9th Ave between 55th and 50th looked awesome: what do you like there?

Eatery isn't bad, but the good find is the Tater Tots at Bar Nine. They also have a great happy hour and bands playing throughout the week.

Dell' Anima - thoughts?

I love Dell'Annima and went there with friends after Fashion week's opening night. The bruchetta is fantastic, as is the pasta dishes. The group I was with all loved it. It has a low poser to non poser ratio as well. Check it out!

Good luck!

slightly embarassing question

I agree with windycity about TOTO on 32nd and 6th, even though it's BYOB. They have all different types of room sizes, great service, good prices, and they have tons of menus for you to order food and have it delivered.

Best Old School Fancy Sunday Brunch for a wonderful grandmother?

You had a good first instinct to hit up Pear Alley Brunch at the Waldorf, but I'd suggest the Oak Room at the Plaza. Can you get more old-school fancy than the Plaza? Nope.

Good luck!

hot, trendy restaurant with private room for 40

There's a private back room at the recently opened and SUPER hot spot DBGB. I think the ones above are a little past their prime.

Good luck!

Mongolian BBQ NYC

Yeah, it's tough in this city...the only one I know of that's a lunch hotspot, and is a bit of a bump up from a deli, is Food World on 46th and Madison. They have a "choose your own ingredients" MB, and they do their thing on the HUGE burners and sticks.
