7 days in Narragansett...where to eat??
Matunuck Oyster Bar. Good fresh fish and $1 Matunuck oysters 4-6 Mon-Thurs. They also have items other than fish. http://www.rhodyoysters.com/ It is on Succotash Road a short distance off of Rte 1, on the right. They have an outdoor deck (weather permitting) as well as indoor seating. We always enjoy it there.
Champlins. Casual place in Point Judith near the Block Island Ferry. Best when the weather is nice so you can sit outside overlooking the fishing boats, which is our reason to go to Champlin's. The usual assortment of fried seafood, and a few other non-fried items, and lobster.
Spain- in Narragansett- always a favorite of ours for a really nice meal (Spanish food)
I know there are other places favored by Chowhounders in the Narragansett area, but I am not so familiar with those. You can do a search within this board.
In Westerly we like 84 High Street, Bruna's Table, Guytanno's, Thai Pepper, and Vetranos ( good for families- decent food). I am not sure I would travel for any of these, though, from Narragansett, since I think there are good places in the Narragansett/Wakefield area.
The Shelter Harbor Inn is lovely, and is always good as well, though it has gotten a bit pricey. (Rte 1, just over the Westerly/Charlestown border.)
Have a great week!
Best fried Clams in Rhode Island?
Believe it or not I have had tasty fried clams at WB Cody's BBQ on Rte 1 near Dunns Corners in Westerly. The clams are not huge and the size of the portion varies from small to reasonable. (one time the waitress took a look at the small portion and took it upon herself to bring another order.) However, I have never been disappointed with the preparation. Normally we go to Cody's for the ribs, but I do order the clams every now and then.

I still stand by Vetrano's. We rarely have something we are not happy with. And as prices go, I still consider it moderate, especially since the meals come with a salad. The service is occasionally slow, though, especially at this time of year.
I ditto your opinion ot Two Little Fish. I always passed it by since, to me, it looked like a routine fast food place, which I assumed had just frozen blah stuff, but I tried it recently. Was I surprised! The fried oysters are yummy and they have terrific lunch specials. The coleslaw is good, as are the fries. Yum.

Oh, and if you like to eat by the beach, I like to go to Sam's for breakfast. Just your basic beach burger shack - basic paper plate breakfast, with the usual breakfast fare, with tables on a deck, but it is lovely to be outside by the ocean early in the morning. It is in Misquamicut, diagonally across ( to the right) from Water Wizz water slides, parking lot right next to the Wuskenau beach parking lot. We also enjoy the Andrea for dinner- also on the beach- all the way down towards the end of Misquamicut a way down from the state beach, past Winnapaug Road. Not badly priced- everything from sandwiches to regular entrees, - not gourmet food, but we are always surprised at how decent the food is. Fine, when your goal is to eat outdoors by the ocean. We really enjoy it. Monday is kids night (not sure if it still is at this time of year) with little activities.
Another great favorite of ours for breakfast, also a bit of a drive from Westerly, is Ocean Mist, though I think it is only open for breakfast weekends after labor day, and there would be a long wait on the weekend. If it is before labor day, get there promptly at 10 (or a few minutes before), when they open, for one of the few tables on the outside deck. We love it- regular breakfast fare, or many other items with a mexican twist. And- incredible bloody marys.
Rte 1 north to Matunuck beach road. Take that all the way down to where it starts to bear left hugging the ocean. You will pass motor homes, and then on the right is a parking lot on the beach side. Ocean Mist is the first house past this. The only sign is on the side of the building which is often blocked from view by car. It is right next door to an Irish pub named, I believe, Joyces.
Have a great week

Vetrano's on Rte 1 in restaurant is our favorite basic "go to" restaurant, great for families. It is a very popular place. Basically Italian, they have entrees for every palate, a children's menu, pizza, and, decent salad is included in the cost of the meal. Prices are moderate. We are rarely disappointed with our order. It is On Rte 1 near the intersection of Wells street (if I am not mistaken) next to Radio Shack.
Also moderately priced in Westerly is Modestos- Italian and mexican.
Venice is decent, 84 High Street- both are pricier than Vetrano's, Pizza Place ( basically pizza, but they have good cheese ravioli). If you don't mind driving a bit, Matunuck Oyster Bar is good- (Succotash Road- take rte 1 north from Westerly, about 20 min or so).
Champlins is fun- in Pt Judith where the ferries leave for Block Island- casual, you order at a window- mostly fried seafood, though they have a few other items as well- it overlooks the fishing boats and ferries. Again, that is a bit of a drive from Westerly.
Matunuck Oyster Bar
It is my husband and my new favorite place! We just love it too! We have been there 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Thought we might keep it a secret (getting crowded!) but, oh well. We have always had friendly, reasonable service, though it was a bit slow last Thursday. I attribute that to the end of August depletion of staff. We didn't mind at all, since we were on the deck and it was just before sunset!. We love the shuck-a-buck $1 Matunuck oysters (4-6 Mon-Thurs) . We get a dozen or so oysters, and then either extra appetizers to make it a dinner, or dinner entrees. Or, we just dine on oysters! The fish there is so fresh. The striped bass special a couple of weeks ago was outstanding, and the swordfish is always really good. I intend to try the lobster roll next!. Even though there are lots of people waiting for tables, it does move rather quickly, and you can have a drink and appetizer outside while you wait, as long as the weather holds. I do think that next year it will be impossible to get a table there.
Jane- I always thought you must be a part owner of UpRiver, since you are constantly singing its praises! Just kidding. Matunuck Oyster Bar is a lovely place.
