ISO: dark and stormy (or even just ginger beer)
Flatiron Lounge also makes a good Dark & Stormy (also called the Jamaican Firefly). Grace in Tribeca has them, too.
You can buy Regatta ginger beer (the best, IMHO) at Citarella and Gourmet Garage.
Fish and chips?
A Salt and Battery on Greenwich Ave in the West Village:

What to order at Apizz?
I absolutely love the ravioli con zucca (i think that's what they call it), which is an open ravioli filled with butternut squash. Another pasta I would recommend is the gnocchi with short ribs, which is less sweet than the ravioli. And if you're in the mood for something lighter, order the skate. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it... you'll love apizz, enjoy!
Coffee near Knitting Factory?
I like Peace & Love (the place is better than the name) on the SW corner of Greenwich and North Moore.
Book(s) on Food/Hospitality Industry?
Hounds, I'm currently working in finance and am thinking about a career switch into the food/hospitality industry. I realize this would be a big jump, so I'm wondering if any of you know of some good books that might give me some insight into what to expect? I am more interested in the business side of things (e.g. running a restaurant, working for a restaurant group) than working as a chef... any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
BYOB place large enough for a group of about 15?
I just went to a 20 person birthday party at Chickie Pig (located in the Lower East Side) and absolutely loved it! For about $28 per person we got salad, multiple appetizers, pizza & dessert. I would highly recommend it. The service was fabulous (especially given our large table size) and the food was delicious.
W.Vill/Tribeca
Unfortunately I think most of the new places are hard to get into. I would recommend trying to go to Perilla. It's probably unlikely that you'll get a reservation at this point, but perhaps someone cancelled last minute - or you can always eat at the bar. If that doesn't work there are plenty of not new but tasty old standbys a couple blocks away on Cornelia Street (Po, Le Gigot, Pearl, etc.) that you could try walking in to as well. Or perhaps you could eat at the bar at Centro Vinoteca, which is also nearby.
a nice simple place for dinner...
The first place that came to mind was the Gramercy Tavern. It might be too expensive, but there's always the Tavern room which is cheaper.
Help - West Village dinner tonight, near PATH station??
How about Malatesta, which is at Washington St & Christopher. Tasty & affordable Italian.
Places similar to Clinton Street Bakery
Perhaps Jonathan Waxman's new restaurant Madeline Mae might fit in this category? There's also Community Food & Juice, which I think is a sister restaurant to CSB. These are both on the UWS. Also up there is the Westside Brewing Co, which isn't quite like CSB but has delicious sweet potato fries, if that's what you're looking for.
I think I've recommended this to you before, but add Westville to your list. It's a small neighborhood place, but the food is delicious. Also, I would add that I love Bubby's for brunch but wasn't very impressed with their dinner - though I haven't been in a while so perhaps they've improved.
Best Destination Dive Eat
Also in Manhattan I would highly recommend the Super Taco truck at 96th & Broadway.
Yogurt-Covered Pretzels
I've gotten (and enjoyed!) them before at Gourmet Garage on 7th Ave South, just south of 10th Street.
Best Comfort Food?
Westville. Love their mac & cheese, veggies, burgers especially. Also a fan of the crab cakes, grilled chicken plate and hot dogs!
Dinner and drinks in UWS
I second Calle Ocho - it's the first place that came to mind when reading this post.
Aleo?
I went there on a weeknight a few months ago and was not very impressed with the food. Everything was average, I thought. We were one of few tables in the restaurant - consequently we had good service including a free plate of antipasto and after dinner drinks. All in all it was a fine experience, but I certainly haven't been running back since. Though I was thankful to get the 1000 opentable dining points...
Chopped Salad UES or UWS
Citrus (75th & Amsterdam, I believe) on the UWS has some good chopped salads.
A month in Tampa
Starting next Monday I will be on a month-long business trip in Tampa. While I will be grabbing quick breakfast and lunch near my office, I am looking for places to go for tasty and/or interesting dinners. My eating expense limit is $75 per day... what are the Tampa must-have meals?
Mesa Grill-thoughts?
I ate there for the first time in August and had a great meal. The pork quesadillas and chicken tacos for appetizers were very good. For an entree I got the pork tenderloin, which was absolutely delicious, and a very large portion. I recall that all the food was spicy (just the way I like it!), but if you're sensitive to spicy food you might want to share that when you order.
Is Santa Fe Restaurant on W 71st still open?
I ate there a few months ago... haven't heard anything about it closing.
Best Mac and Cheese
Given my login name I feel obliged to reply. My 3 favorites are Westville, Schiller's, and DuMont. I'm happy reading this post - now I have some new places to try!
Crispo-Need Recommendations on Menu
I would recommend their bucatini alla amatriciana, orecchiette w/ broccoli rabe & sausage, and veal with lemon & artichokes. And perhaps another pasta to please the vegetarians?
BYO in NYC
If you're looking for something a little different, you can BYO at Sigiri (Sri Lankan food) in the East Village.
Women Owned Restaurants?
Estancia 460 in Tribeca. A couple used to own this restaurant (fka Sosa Borella) and another one in midtown. After a divorce he got the one in midtown, she got the one in Tribeca... or so I've heard.
Lunch options by 6th ave and Walker
A decent Thai place in the area is called thirty five, which is located at 35 Lispenard Street. They have a lunch special that includes an appetizer and entree for about $8.
Red Sauce Italian on UWS
How about La Grolla on Amsterdam between 78th and 79th? In addition to red sauce Italian, they have some other more innovative dishes as well. They also have a prix fixe if you're interested.
UWS -- Dinner Date.. Help
'Cesca - good food and plenty of tables to sit next to each other.
