Ba Le Tapioca Desert - moved from Hawaii board This maybe off topic but it is very specific to the coconut tapioca desert I had at the Ward Ave location of Ba Le Sandwich shop. Loved the taste of this because it wasn't too sweet, but very refreshing. I tried the one at the Don Quijote location and it was much too sweet and thicker like regular tapioca pudding. My question is does anyone know how to make that at home? Should be pretty simple but so far the recipes found on the web don't come close. PLEASE, ANYONE?? |

If you do go the Helena's which is in the Kalihi area (you'll need a car), better try the pikikaula ribs. Traditional pipikaula will only be sliced pieces of meat. |

2nd time request!! best peking duck and cake noodle on Oahu????? I think it's been there for ages. Entrance either on Pauoa Rd or Pacific Hts Rd through the driveways into the back. Park along the fence. The others under the building are for the tenants. Pretty safe, never had trouble or break-in. Just lock the doors like any other place. |

2nd time request!! best peking duck and cake noodle on Oahu????? Oops! Yup, it's Pauoa. Best cake noodles I think. I usually have it with the boneless chicken sauce. |

2nd time request!! best peking duck and cake noodle on Oahu????? Sorry, but On On has gone down the hill for me. I don't go there anymore and unless something's changed, I'd much rather go to Golden Duck for most food. For best cake noodle, Golden Duck wouldn't be on the list, but Pahoa Chop Suey is. I love cake noodle that is a little crunchy when the sauce is put over it and Pahoa makes their noodles at the time of ordering. Others pre-make it partial cooked I think. Plus, I don't know where they get their noodles from, but it has a much tastier flavor than other places. There's something about the noodle itself which I love. Portions are big too. Never tried the Peking Duck there. I don't have Peking Duck too often (just parties), but Wah Kung at Ranch 99 market complex is good. I'm sure there are others. By the way, if you have a craving for Peking Duck and you're alone, try Island Manapua (I go to the Manoa location). They sell 4 roast duck in a bun pieces with green onion sliver and plum sauce to go. No crispy skin from the peking duck but close to it in a pinch. |

Oahu Good Eats- a quick review The best shaved ice on Oahu has to be Shimazu's Shaved Ice on School Street just off the Liliha exit ramp. This father and son took it over from the original old couple and in my opinion have the best ice and best favored syrups. The owner, Kelvin Shimazu is a fanatic about making sure his shaved ice is great and the portions are big for their size. Try "The Larry" which is supposed to be as big as your head. |

best fried chicken in honolulu I agree with Wailana Coffee House and also Penny's Drive Inn on Sand Island Access Rd (only open M-F) and I Love Country Cafe (Navy Exchange Food court location is better than Piikoi location and open to the public). Penny's is supposed to be the old Woolworth recipe and my favorite, but not always available when one wants chicken! I would rank Wailana 2nd and available 24 hours. Please let us know how it goes and if you find any not on the list. |
