How to handle in-laws using my home instead of theirs for their party Your post certainly does not warrant any flame comments! You are spot on! I just cant imagine anyone doing this- and unless the OP says no- firmly- and carries through with it, these kinds of things will continue to happen. |

I have only been once- for lunch- but I did enjoy my haddock sandwich- and I liked that I could choose to have it grilled instead of fried. |

What style of Eggplant Parm do you like and from where? Thanks for the heads up. I love eggplant parm, and it sounds like Sonny Notos is great- I have had chicken parm from there, and liked it. I also want to try the eggplant parm at Alfredos in Melrose. Their chicken parm with linguine is really good, and my mom loves their fried scallop dinner. Have not had their pizza, but that looks good, too. Will post back if I get there soon. |

Good suggestion-Dont know why I didnt think of Turners, seeing as I live in Melrose! Bought some delicious scallops from their fish market last week- and if the good weather lasts til this weekend, I think swordfishh on the grill may just be in order. |

Joe Fish in North Reading- they have oysters rockfeller, as well as on the half shell. If you like fish, they will surely have something for you, too- though their non fish menu is limited |

Do you eat certain foods on particular days of the week either now or when growing up? As you said, the no meat on Friday used to be a Catholic "rule" for every Friday, not just during Lent. Now the no meat rule is only for Ash Wednesday and each Friday in Lent. |

Do you eat certain foods on particular days of the week either now or when growing up? We always had it cooked med rare, with a delicious gravy on the side. Served with mashed, cabbage salad, spinach, butternut, carrots , green beans and rolls. My grandmother made it every week, then my mom, now I do- though I do change up the vegetables. |

Dip ideas for vegetable tray other than ranch? Add a bit of horseradish, too! |

How do you make a Monte Cristo? I do almost the same- but usually use scali bread, and I serve with maple syrup- but strawberry jam sounds delicious! |

Do you eat certain foods on particular days of the week either now or when growing up? That's funny- I still cook a Roast beerf often- have lots of family for dinner almost every Sunday, and they all love it- as do thier kids! Today we will have RB, asparagus, summer squash, potatoes au gratin and rolls. Took forever to get the potatoes ready- had to use 5 lbs of potatoes, so made a HUGE casserole of them! Dessert is brownie hot fudge sundaes. |

Do you eat certain foods on particular days of the week either now or when growing up? Yup- we never even thought it was odd!! Family of 7 kids, mom did not work outside of the house, and money was tight! |

Do you eat certain foods on particular days of the week either now or when growing up? Sunday dinner was always roast beef, gravy, potatoes and lots of vegetables. Saturday night was hot dogs, beans, home fries, brown bread- and Dad had steak! Wednesday was spaghetti. Fridays was haddock, peas and french fries. |

Lobster Claw in North Reading, our new(40 years old) fave Seafood Shack Havent been there for years- used to go all the time. Remember when It was just a tiny place. Their crabmeat salad was unbelievable- just shredded (real) crab, and a bit of mayo. Dont think they make it any more. used to like their fish market, too. Will have to stop by again. Thanks for the reminder. |

My (long...) rant on restaurant restrooms Hey- dont feel bad- everyone has issues- some are just more willing to admit it!!! |

this is not from a cookbook- just something I tried when I had some leftover rice. Doesn't sound like much- but so good. I use leftover rice ( any kind), I add spinach or mushrooms, or onions ( whatever you like) to the rice. Put rice in bottom of casserole or pyrex dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Place chicken thighs on top of rice, skin side up. i usually stuff some garlic and a lemon slice between the meat and skin of the chicken. S/P and olive oil on the chicken. Bake for about an hour. The chicken flavors the rice, and makes it so creamy. A go to recipe when I am lazy!! |

My (long...) rant on restaurant restrooms Wow- you have certainly given this a lot of thought!!! |

Café Plume: Since when it is OK to ask a customer to leave before they finish their food? Best comment of the entire thread!!! |

Interesting thread! We usually have cold cuts, green salad, potato salad, chicken salad and a carving ham- all made by immediate family. We also serve any dishes that people may bring- either after the services, or during the week when company drops by. |

It was crazy- it was a long time ago- it was Thackerys' in the strip mall where MB is. |

Sounds like Woburn! If it was, Woburn had another crazy law. The person who made your drink, was not allowed to serve you your drink. Learned that while sitting at the bar, right in front of the beer taps. Ordered a beer, the bartender poured the beer, and put it to the side of the taps. Another bartender came by and placed it in front of me-and of course I asked why! Crazy. |

that's funny- didnt care for them, if i remember that far back! But I am not a big fan of chocolate on any fruit. |

How do you make old-fashioned popcorn in a covered pan or pot? I have a whirley pop- and it is ancient. Still works like a charm. The gears on mine are not plastic, maybe that is the problem. We use it all the time- bring it on vacation with us every summer, and make buckets of popcorn every night for 20+! |

Ice Cream, berries, breakfast sausage. From TJ's- green beans, naan, and, if my mother is with me, she likes to try a different frozen dessert each time we go! Raw shrimp, TJ fetticine alfredo, and TJ orange chicken. |

Stuffed chicken breasts without spinach- alternatives to Cordon Bleu? that is a good idea- i do all the meals for my elderly mom, and she is recovering from radiation treatments. Trying to cook extra healthy for her, and this will certainly be good- and she eats chicken at least four times per week! |
