Quality smoked ham hocks?

I've seen some at Marconda's Meats in the Original Farmers Market. I'd call first though.

I have always been for pastries/coffee. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check out there tortas. The picture looks like just filling and cheese? no Avo or other garnish I wonder..

8 foodies from Asia -- DTLA rec?

It's more Tex-Mex than Traditional/Regional Mex but it is very good. Nice cocktail program as well.

Pok pok phat thai

There was plenty of street parking so I didn't bother but I saw the person in front of me get two stickers on his parking pass.

Pok pok phat thai

So it looks like they validate parking now. I went after the farmer's market today about 1130 and walked right in. Had the Kuaytiaw Khua Kai with wide noodles, chicken and cuttlefish. It had nice wok flavor, needed a punch from the chiles but basic and nice variety of textures. The Red Peanuts were nice and crunchy but could have used more punch of garlic/ chile/lime leaf. The Thai Iced tea with lime juice was refreshing and hit the spot.

Not earth shattering but well executed and tasty. PS Looked like Chego had a bigger line than PokPok when I was leaving. Was hoping I could sneak into Ramen Champ but it looks like soft opening/invited guests only.

Do LA diners really like noise?

Just remember, it's an open kitchen in a very busy restaurant. The line cooks don't have mental energy to spend on gratuitous noise. They need to hear and be heard by the chef. I'm sure it sounds loud because in an open kitchen like that if it's loud in the dining room it's going to be loud in the kitchen too! and hard to communicate.

Date night on a Sunday in Culver City

I love MB Post -the food is fun and tastes great but I think of it as the opposite of romantic. Tables super close together, very loud, the food isn't paced well. With more people, a bigger group the sharing is more fun ect..

Dinner Near The Forum

Maybe Father's Office/Bucato/Lukshon. Then take La Cienega up the back way. It's not a great solution but doable

Looking for interesting spots to eat with teenagers in LA

Larry's is right on Windward on Venice beach with good food and teen friendly. Bonus nice beer/wine selection for the parents.

Best Modernised Sushi in LA

I've probably driven by there 100's of times and never seen it?! Google street view puts it in the mall with Jin Jiang, but I still don't see it. Is that more or less where it is?

Will put it on the list of places to check out.

Kanpai on Lincoln in westchester is good for both tradition and more modern preps. I recall having a frozen toro there a while back.

Valley restaurant for small wedding

I've been to a small wedding at Inn of the Seventh Ray that was very nice. It's more Vall-ibu or Valley adjacent but worth considering.

Tacoteca--Good, Irritating, and Overpriced

Excuse my poor photography. Among the highlights.. The chorizo taco was excellent, best tortilla on the westside. Easily. Mezcal infused with manzanilla. And the scallops with alguaciles was funky citrus spicy goodness. The guacamole had too much lime for my taste but had no complaints over portion size. Under 30 with out the drink.

Tito's Tacos

Very open minded! The main thing is not comparing it to regional Mexican food. Tito's is strictly Mexican-American. The way it would be silly to compare Paul's Kitchen and Din Tai Fung

Tacoteca--Good, Irritating, and Overpriced

Thanks for the informative review. Too bad about the duck tamal, that was on my informal list of dishes to try.. I tried to go for lunch on Friday but the weren't open so I ended up at tacos punta cabra (scallop tostada is crazy good). But I'll try and check it out one of these days soon.

Is this the new chowhound some people are fearing? Where people don't try the food but can't wait not to like it? :)
