Very Good BBQ Brisket at Maple Block

PS.. I know Kevin would eat at least 3 sandwiches, they are smallish but with a good amount of meat. the buns are perfect as well and they were plenty filling for me.

Very Good BBQ Brisket at Maple Block

Hate to contribute to making this place more popular but.. I went with a guest and we had a light lunch, the maple block pork sandwich with shaved fennel was awesome. Had a bite of the brisket which I liked but not as much, does anyone know if they smoke the point as well? Mac n cheese- yum. Collards really good! Seasonal Roasted veg salad is a must IMO, so good

How is parking in that area? Does the Library have a public lot as well?

In NO WAY is Ricky's on the way to Malibu from LAX.

Tacos punta cabras in Santa Monica is though and is excellent.

Any Clifton's Cafeteria Reopening News?

I always had the impression they are keeping the 'spirit' of the original.

Looking for Yellow Corn

quite a few farmers are not only shucking but also cutting the end so you can't see that it was under developed. :(

Looking for Yellow Corn

Rutiz farms sells a really nice bi-color at the santa monica FM. There was one other yellow corn vendor wed.. but I can't remember the name, they were towards the east end. The rest are all white corn :(

I'd love to see some of the Yellow 'Brentwood' corn locally!

Best 'Crinkle Cut Fries'? Crispy! Mmmm :~)

Sadly there will never be a crinkle cut fry as good as the Carl's jr version of the 80's :(

Shake Shack is coming

Don't get me wrong I love InO for a cheese burger at less than three dollars they really get the details right from the texture of the toasted bun to ratio of meat/cheese, but you have to compare burgers at the same price point. An extra couple dollars per can get you a different quality patty.

Ps.. I've said it before but I really don't think you can get a good fry with the Kennebec potato which InO and many places who do there own fries in house use.

Shake Shack is coming

Still don't know why people want to compare every hamburger place to In-n-Out?! They are not in the same price category. The same thing happened when 5 guy's showed up. Shake Shake, 5 guys and Fat Burger are in the same category and I-n-O is comparable to McD ect..

Something Cheap, large group, in/near Sherman Oaks

Doesn't that get pretty crowded for a large walk-in group? The food doesn't really stand out either IMO

Purple potatoes

I don't know about the other farmers markets but they only come to SM Wed during Asparagus season. Personally I like the Sierra gold from Rutiz farms and the All Red potatoes from Weizer.

Zuckerman is at H'wood FM year round I think? But purples are pretty common, Whole foods, Bristol Farms, The fresh faire Ralph's near me.. I see them regularly

Two New Yorkers spending two nights in Los Angeles. Help us eat great!

Karaoke Bleu! ;) Kidding, but if you are into coffee check out Balconi on Olympic and Sawtelle, nice menu of single origin for siphon which is what they are known for, but the espresso is great too.

SF hound in LA tomorrow. Is itinerary okay?

Ps.. I am Mexican-American. Just don't think many (not all) of his combinations taste Mexican. Which is not to was it's bad. When I eat his food a lot of times I ask myself if it really benefits from being folded up in a tortilla? as opposed to being a 'small plate'.
Btw: I don't take offence at Andy's post because I did not take it to mean that Mexicans don't use Veg or Farmers market Veg because they certainly do. But more that the flavor combinations don't taste Mexican.
Ps.. If I am going to pay that for a taco I am going to Tacoteca, love the tortillas- interesting filling and delicious

Don't poke the sacred cow Andy! ;)

It's an attempt to put the LA style Farmers market driven food on top of run of the mill tortillas. The quality is there, but for me it mostly doesn't taste Mexican even though it is sometimes good.

Amandine

Maybe you are resistant to change, but hopefully it will grow on you. On the prices, I don't recall them having gone up in a long time and think that while the prices have gone up they still represent a good value. Low stock is not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion, hopefully they are reducing waste and keeping everything fresh. IIRC they are offering discounted pastries after 4 pm now.

Amandine

The flow is much better! My Almond croissant tasted the same (yummy) the plain did look light in color- like maybe they didn't glaze it? The tart/pie case was full and looked colorful and tempting.
