What is the wine pairing with 48 oz of Fatty Wagyu! Something from Mr. Moueix?

Restaurant menu exhibit 'To Live and Dine in LA' tells LA's real history

The Main branch library's cookbook collection is truly impressive. I would love to make it to one of the Culinary Historians of SoCal Events there.

Restaurant gift certificate recommendation

Superba Snack bar would be fun with a gift certificate like that, nice well edited wine list, small plates, fun market driven. Or Melisse for more white tablecloth place also market driven Cal-French, quieter fine dining.

Does this look like a paella?

I'll cut him a break because he was obvioiusly not trying to make a traditional Paella (see all of the various aioli's around) I would be more offended if it wasnt good.

Where to find fresh yuzu in Los Angeles? (Ideally westside)

The juice in bottles is very easy to find as are all sorts of products made with yuzu on the other hand there is no real consistent supply for the fruit itself. As mentioned earlier Mud Creek has Sudachi and Yuzu (a small supply for a short time), sometimes the japanese markets will have them but it is usually not predictable or ready supply. Having access to backyard fruit is still best unfortunately.

Where can I find authentic chinese chopping blocks in the LA/ Orange county area?

Action sales is awesome and has great prices but I have never seen the type of cutting board you are looking for there.

Amandine

Has Clementine's parking gotten any better? Used to live in westwood but never went as often as I would have liked due to that..

Fair enough, I never called in because I am less than a block away. Personally I was nice to be able to walk and grab a decent baguette for dinner.

Hopefully they don't get too much better, lol! parking in that area is not great as it is when they are busy.

Rockenwagner West LA Closed

I always thought that location looked bad. That corner is very high traffic- people drive aggressive coming off the 405 and I was always worried about getting into that parking lot. I really wanted to check it out with the original chef

Amandine

Never saw any bugs myself and I am there quite a bit (very close by) but yes they are out in the open. For me, I'd like to see a savory pastry option or two for grab and go. Their whole cakes/tarts were always there best items and those rectangular cheesecakes. Everything else was good but not exceptional IMO. It would be nice to see some improvements not too much change in there character, they were always warm and good neighbors.

Sorry, but another inquiry about Korean BBQ

Go to Kang Ho-Dong at Chapman plaza. Make sure you get there early as it gets busy, but you can have a drink at toe bang and they'll give you a call. Food is good and the atmosphere is lively.

Sushi Omakase Journey Take Two

I had no idea they worked there! We went to Kiriko as the value neighborhood spot before sawtelle became crazy and Nagao (should I admit that here?) because Takao was always the considered the expensive place.

You are right I don't remember it being mentioned before and don't know who the Itamae is..

Seek a free quiet place to meet

You don't even need the community rooms, usually there are not more than a couple tables occupied upstairs during the week especially. No one would notice or care if you were parked for an hour or two talking or giving a lesson with a cup of coffee and pastry. n

Late-Night Feasting at Morinoya: A Pictorial Essay

A good time was had by all. Morinoya was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night. We were the only gaijin for most of the night. The crowd varied from business people dressed up the the japanese kid who looked college age in basketball shorts and white tee eating a hot pot. We had quite a lot highlights included the simmered sardines, saikyo miso marinaded buri, Tempura (light not oily good crunch) baterra mackerel. The kukuni with mustard was nice.

Opening Night at Cassia by The Spice Table's Bryant Ng (A Photo Story)

Olives are not edible until cured and are usually only available in Fall during the olive harvest. Flora Bella usually has some around that time at the SMFM.

The Dry cured are the wrinkly ones and are my favorites for an intense tapenade

Sushi Tsujita Serving Lunch 7 Days a Week (A Photo Story)

The soup was served first followed by the Chawanmushi Then the Sushi was served on a plate as in the lunch menu picture. Followed by the Hand roll at the end. IIRC I added an extra hand roll at the end.

It is not so many pieces that it suffers from being plated at once IMO. The service here from the staff is among the best I have experienced at a sushi bar btw..

Porchini is awesome and great in risotto! Fresh is really hard to find, but dried look in any Bristol Farms or whole foods type place. Surfas carries them in west LA

If you enjoy espresso or siphon brewed coffee check out Balconi on the Olympic side of the Olympic Collection. Unpretentious and excellent.
