Tacoteca--Good, Irritating, and Overpriced

Is this the new chowhound some people are fearing? Where people don't try the food but can't wait not to like it? :)

Guerrilla Tacos Revisited (A Photo Story and Review)

I would be very curious as to your opinion. :) For me the whole is often not as satisfying as the parts, if that makes sense. But when he hits, it is really good.I tend to prefer his ceviche type stuff.

Don't think you can really compare Kogi to Guerilla Taco as they are trying to do two different things. Kogi is great, fun food to have on a night on the town. GT is more of a upscale Gjelena take on taco's with a real emphasis on seasonal vegetables.

I'll keep going every once in a while because I really want to like it more than I do.

So what is this new Chowhound you are fearing? That is expressed by the differences of opinion

I don't see the dichotomy. Sorry. And your opinion is just as valid as mine which is my point that there is plenty of space for varying opinions on how good or not GT's is.

By calling out no one you were calling out everyone who doesn't share your opinion.

I think there is plenty of room for differences of opinion here. It's a little much to call this 'the new chowhound some of us have been fearing' lulu is not some newbie flaming great food. She has an opinion which was stated as her own and not as 'the truth'.

I happen to think that it would be nice if his taco's worked better as taco's rather that gourmet food on a tortilla (not a great tortilla either- this really bothers me). But I can certainly see why it's popular

Champagne Report, 2014

Price shopping online is great when you know what you want. One of the reasons why I liked Dutton's Books (and wine house) is because they are great places to browse and find awesome surprises.

LOS ANGELES WHOLESALE PRODUCE MARKET PRICES ON CRATES OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Nope, wholesale prices are generally not posted online. You would need to talk to a rep from one of the local purveyors ie. LA Specialty, Worldwide produce ect

Champagne Report, 2014

picked up some Champagne J. Lassalle (KLWM) 'Cuvee Angeline' 2008 at Wine House today for 56$ a pretty good value for a grower champagne imo.

Champagne Report, 2014

The Ruinart rose is a favorite of mine when I feel like splurging :) but I'd much rather have a good Cremant than a cheap champagne at the same price.

FWIW Wine house has a good Champagne and Sparkling selection in addition to those mentioned above

Dinner before the Disney!

Thanks carter, I found that out last night! no obvious/convenient parking or valet so we just ate at the Patina cafe at Disney Hall, at least we made the pre show talk. Salonen's Helix was incredible.

No more Thai Elvis unfortunately due to illness several years ago. The Magic Castle is awesome (the food not so much) but if you can get in- totally worth it IMO

They need to devote more space to drinks and less to food. Menu looks like they are trying to throw a mishmash of concepts together. Great drinks though

Santa Monica Openings

You know, I have never been to Bru Haus? I don't know why. If you ever get stuck at Q's the taco's and nacho's are surprisingly not bad by Sport's bar standards. Have you tried Holy Cow yet? It seems to be always packed. I had a burger there and was really disappointed, but I am holding out hope that I just ordered poorly.

Food that will satisfy Indian vegetarians and American meat-eaters?

I've never heard of Lard in rice before and Lard is used for refried beans, but you'd be surprised at how few Mexican restaurants use it. If you get the soupy beans (frijoles de la Olla) they will more likely be vegetarian like those tasty ones at Tacomiendo.
