Wow, bummer. I just hope the chef finds a place with a bigger kitchen and he can really show off his skills and knowledge of wine with a bigger list.

Wexler's- meh.

I think the reviews here have been pretty mixed with a lot of complaints about the bread (I went recently and liked it, no caraway but didn't fall apart on me) and at least one on minced bits that I recall. I have to say based on my sample size of one at least when they are on the pastrami is thick cut and juicy. The sides are nothing to get excited about IMO, my date had the turkey and thought it was dry as well.

In general though I am not rushing to go to GCM and deal with that parking to fight for a dirty table unless I am going with someone else who really wants to go.

Changes Afoot on Sawtelle: Chabuya Replaced by Beni-Tora

I enjoyed it, had the black sesame dan dan noodles and the gyoza. Good flavor, reasonable prices and a welcome addition to the neighborhood

Pioneering Campanile chef's new joint in where else but the GCM

I am curious to see what he comes up with for that spot, he sure is talented and helped pave the way for the Gjelina's of L.A..

BBQ in Brentwood. "Holy Cow!"

lol I prefer Frankie and Johnnie's in the area and really miss the original Maria's pizza with those enormous 3" diameter pepperoni! They are open late (for the area anyway) which is nice as well

Where to get ingredients to make dashi stock?

If you are in Korea town might as well check Assi supermarket first. They have a good selection of Japanese goods.

Taylor's or the Dresden Room? Where would you go?

Dresden is good for drinking and having fun- not eating. The food is expensive and not that good

Where to get ingredients to make dashi stock?

the only real sub is to leave it out, really. You could pickle some dashi kombu and keep it on hand in the pantry. Then julienne before mixing your poke. Might be good, but not really the same.

Sunday brunch in West LA

I like Jar, but I always think of it as a 'safe' mother's day type of place. Good and everything is well executed but.. not super exciting. If I'm in that area I'd rather go to Little next door and sit on the patio.

Someone mentioned Superba F&B they are pulling some excellent espresso drinks right now on that sexy La Marzocco.

Is Baco Mercat really this bad?

Just keep in mind that bar seating there is pretty tight, but it is a fun place to sit for a few drinks and small plates. Overall though I prefer Bar Ama around the corner currently, especially if you go on a Sunday they usually have some interesting taco specials. Good cocktails at the bar as well.

Sunday brunch in West LA

If he lives up the street from Amandine (as do I) then Farmshop is Very close and its good but not all that exciting IMO. I think Flores or Superba Snack bar (very good) would be more fun atmosphere with really well done food.
