Now that Mr. Tasterâ„¢ is gone, can we please discuss Gjusta?

Who makes your favorite naan?

I don't know why it took me so long to try the bread at Naan Hut. WoW! is it good. Light and crispy with so much flavor, I was blown away. Now I am curious to try some of their food as well.

Chowhound's Impression of Popular Food Critics

I do agree with you that the LAWeekly's star system in meaningless, but that is because of their reviewer (who is just okay IMO).

The star system the LAT had under SIV was 'fair and balanced' I always felt if somone rec'd over a 3* that was a chef/restaurant to watch.. YMMV

Chowhound's Impression of Popular Food Critics

I like LA Magazine in general for their food coverage and Patric Kuh in particular. Miss S. Irene V and her restaurant reviews, I always felt whether I agreed with her or not I could measure if I would like a place or not. And Bring back the stars LATimes!

What's the most unique and upscale Iranian/Persian food in LA?

J.Gold reviewed Adana recently. I haven't been and don't know if it's what you are looking for exactly but check out the review and decide for yourself.

Super Burger - Bang for your Burger Buck

Look at the prices at Fat Burger and 5 Guy's blue collar folks have been paying 6 bucks for a cheeseburger for a long time.

Even a quarter pounder with cheese is about $5 with tax and that is pretty aweful. Prices of meat have been going up for a while.

Def not! I like a heavier batter. My personal favorite is a recipe from Heston Blumenthal with fresh yeast. I get the impression that they use a syphon to make the batter super light which I'm not a huge fan of. I love tempura but when I am craving onion rings I want something a bit more substantial.

-1 on the onion rings. Maybe that style is not for me but I didn't like the batter on the fried fish either. I am always on the look out for great onion rings too.

They have a really nice beer selection btw if you are into that and very good bar eating for 1 or two people with nice staff.

I've said it before but I sure do miss the old style Maria's pies. The Sunset/barrington location is nice but the pizza just doesn't do it for me anymore

Vicente Foods in Brentwood has a sneaky good Pastrami sandwich

Mine is corned beef on rye. the corned beef is warm and fatty they rye is flavorful. Pickles really crunchy and good (more on the less sour end of pickledom). Great tasting and great value if your on that side of town.

Length-wise is correct. Most places will get it off the bone and cut it like ham on a meat slicer. You can usually tell by looking at the fat.
