Rte. 9 between Wappingers & Poughkeepsie

I thougth Pho Max was just OK... I'm sure this is too late - but one of my faves is MexiCali blue, across the street from PhoMax in Wappiners next to BadAss coffee. They serve tacos and burritos and they are fantastic. This is the first place I've been to where I'd get a quesadilla and it's not dripping with grease.. Yet it's still delicious. Everything is light and fresh, yet still incredibly flavorful.

Best Pizza in Dutchess County

Agreed - amadeos is good, one of the better places around here.

Zim Zari [Massapequa Park]

Personally, I go there because it's on one of the few sit down restaurants in the area that have a fun, attractive atmosphere but are extremely affordable and you don't have to wait long to be seated, if at all. The food is "good enough" for a fun night out with friends or a stop over after the beach, in my opinion. It has enough diverse options that if you go with a group of people, everyone can find something that appeals to them. You won't find this place on "diners drive-ins and dives" because the food is missing that "wow this is so great" factor. So it's not bad, but it's not great. Choose it for the atmosphere and price.

Pizza Shop at the intersection of RT9 & 52 is a new place in Fishkill that does a very good job. They are owned by Cosimo's. Generally I'm not a big fan of Cosimos' food, but this place makes great pizza. In addition to regular slices, they have thin, crispy, square pies too that may interest you with tasty sauce :) My favorite still is Nonna's in stop & shop plaza off rt 44 in Poughkeepsie...

saturday night in poughkeepsie?

FYI, sounds like your trip is over, but there is a good Vietnamese place about two blocks down from The Beechtree called Saigon Cafe. Tiny little unimpressive looking place run by a husband and wife team, but the food is great. P.S. good choice on the Beechtree, I love that place!

Best food options off of i-87 between NY and Montreal

New Paltz has some good options (one exit further South from Kingston off 87). When driving through the area I always get a craving for MexiCali Blue. It's a total hole in the wall with limited seating but to-die-for freshly made tacos and burritos. Very fresh, non-greasy, delicious and creative! The town of new paltz is ~5 minutes off of the I-87 exit and has many other quality dining options as well, but that was the first that came to mind.

Where to find guava and sugar cane near Orlando?

I'm visiting Orlando on business from out of town (NY) for a week in early December. Looking to see if guava is sold in the markets, and if so, where would I be able to pick some up? Also as a bonus, I would love to be able to find a place that presses fresh sugar cane juice! Thanks in advance!

Dates and Sugar Cane Juice

As an update, I visited almost all of the places listed here! And I wasn't disappointed!
Bought dates from Balboa International Market & Vine ripe early on the trip.... then stopped off at Valley Foods the day before we left and stocked up on 10 lbs of yellow dates to take home with us. lol. We're hard core. They were $2.49/lb, which is still a steal compared to the price I pay when I order them online and have them shipped to my home in NY...
For sugar cane juice, we also went to a few places. K Sandwiches was really good. They serve straight up cane juice without any flavoring, which is what I preferred. We went to the place in 99 ranch as well, which we were a bit less impressed with the quality of the sugar cane... Not listed here, we also went to The Fruit Shop on Convoy st in Kearney Mesa, which also pressed fresh sugar cane juice. The sugar cane itself was really good, but they pressed it with kumquat. It tastes good that way, but we prefer the taste of straight up sugar cane...
Thanks everyone for you input!! You made it really easy for us to find these places once we arrived in San Diego from NY!!

Dates and Sugar Cane Juice

Hi all,

I'm visiting San Diego in mid-late September and am looking to see if I can get a hold of these two items while I'm over there.

Dates: August and September are date season, and I know there are places in the desert in Southern California harvesting fresh, crunchy around this time. Anyone know if I can find anyone selling them in San Diego?

Sugar Cane Juice: I'm talking stalks of sugar can that are juiced on the spot for drinking -- Anyone come across this in San Diego?

Thanks!!

How are San Diego farmer's markets?

Thanks. Maybe my post was too long winded - Would you happen to know how either of those compare to the Hollywood FM in LA? Thanks!

How are San Diego farmer's markets?

I am visiting San Diego in September for the second time. I visited two years ago, splitting my time between LA and San Diego - But loved San Diego so much, I plan to spend all of my CA visit there this time. :)

All in all, I enjoyed everything in San Diego better than LA - Except for a totally phenomenal Sunday farmer's market in Hollywood. They had everything... tons of things that I, being from NY, have never been able to get a hold of. Such as... dozens of different varieties of grapes that are 10x sweeter and more delicious than the grocery store variety - Fresh dates just picked off the palm tree, freshly squeezed sugarcane juice, jujubes, and more... Not only did they have these fruits, but they had a huge variety of vendors selling them.

So I'm wondering, do any of the Farmer's markets in San Diego stand up to this? Or should I spend my Sunday driving to Hollywood to go back to this farmer's market? (I flew 3,000 miles... may as well spend one day driving 200 or so)

Like a Fridays or Applebees, but with good food?

haha no I'm not his parent. His older sister-in-law. I'm 30. We ended up going to The Smith and it was perfect!! We really enjoyed the food (High quality but not overly fancy) and young atmosphere without being divey. The steaks were amazing.. And so were the calamari and hot potato chip appetizers! Thank you everyone!!

Like a Fridays or Applebees, but with good food?

Looking to take a 22 year old guy out for a college graduation celebration (there would just be 3 people here). Looking for some place with a fun, party-like atmosphere without being too divey. Also, good food is a must. Nothing ultra-sophisticated, but not a corner burger joint either. American food with some good steak options would be best. Thanks!

Outdoor Tented Wedding Reception [Long Island, Hudson Valley]

The Grandview in Poughkeepsie. I had my wedding there and couldn't recommend it more. The views are unbeatable. They have both an indoor ballroom and an outdoor tent and you can hold your reception in either of them. I had my reception in their tent overlooking the Hudson river and it was stellar. They have great food and give you lots of amenities including a complimentary honeymoon suite and 5 rooms in a nearby hotel they own, which they will shuttle you back and forth to. Great for family that's coming in out of town. It's not "cheap" but it's not Hamptons prices either - and in my opinion a good value for everything that they give you. http://www.grandviewevents.com/pages/...

Family Dinner for 14 Near Poughkeepsie

Shadows on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie is a restaurant built a few years ago has some semi-private rooms. They have pretty good food that can accommodate many different tastes, and has gorgeous views of the Hudson river and mid-hudson bridge.

Also I know Dolce Vita in Wappingers has a private room available. They have great Italian food and great service. I was there for a bridal shower once, and they did a great job.

Hudson River Valley Wedding Location?

Aroma has great food. I've been there for a wedding before, and they did a really great job. The restaurant itself is beautiful.

As far as scenic goes, the Grandview in Poughkeepsie is hard to beat. I had my wedding there on a Friday night. We had the ceremony outside on the patio overlooking the Hudson River. The views are stunning. The reception was held in the outdoor tent, also overlooking the river, which was cheaper than holding it in the ballrom. Seriously, though, this is the best tent you have ever seen in your life. When we held the wedding, it was a bit chilly, so they actually heated the tent. It was amazing. The only downside is that there's a 100 person minimum. The food is very excellent (for catered food) and though it's not budget, you get an excellent value for your money.

If you did hold it at Aroma though, you can always escape to a spot on the Hudson river to take your photographs. =)

Hudson Valley Brunch Spots?

I've never been to their cafe, but I buy a loaf of their homemade bread every week - that they make with their own grains - It is SO delicious and fresh

Grocery Shopping in Mt Kisco?

Thanks a lot, all - This is really helpful info

Best Pizza in Dutchess County

Nonna's is really good - Thin, crispy crust and tasty sauce! As close as I've found to good NYC pizza in the Poughkeepsie area

Grocery Shopping in Mt Kisco?

Hey all - I am thinking of moving to Mount Kisco. Where I currently live, further upstate NY, I am spoiled by living very close to a "farmer's market" type of supermarket - They have incredibly fresh produce at extremely reasonable prices as well as fresh meats and seafood. In the summer, they have a lot of great local produce at very reasonable prices. Are there any stores like this in Mount Kisco? Thanks!

Middle Eastern Grocery in LA and San Diego

awesome... thank you. No specific items. My husband and I are visiting San Diego. He's originally from Egypt and where we live now it is hard to find Egyptian/Lebanese type foods and ingredients. We were hoping to come across a store where he would see products he remembers his mom cooking with when he was a kid. She would be thrilled if we could find and bring back some items she used to use back in Egypt.
