I just ate at Socarrat for the first time and it was AWESOME. Great sangria, too.

Top 5 Most Underrated Restaurants in NYC

Pan-Latin, Latin fusion...great, inventive cocktails...entrees maybe in the late teens-20s? They're also opening a west village outpost sometime soon i think. also- i recommend brunch, for $12 its unlimited drinks (mimosas, margaritas, sangria ...stuff like that) and the menu is pretty good. Good call on this one!!

Le Gigot in the village. I stumbled upon it one random night and had a really incredible meal there- went a few more times and had the same great experience. Reasonably priced, too. It definitely gets overshadowed by everything else in the village.

Good Dive Bars

If you're going the Blue & Gold route then you're better off going to Cherry Tavern which is on 6th and A I believe.

Also, I don't know how much it counts as a dive but i think it fits the bill: McKenna's on 14th between 7th & 8th. really awesome and ridiculously cheap food and $2 PBRs...yet its totally not a hipster joint. I always have a good time there. very laid back.

Long Island Wineries

I toured Wolffer Estate last fall and had an incredible day. We also did some of their tasting menus and they offered some really great wines that I wouldn't have tried or bought had they not been suggested. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly as well and the wine was delicious. It's in close proximity to other vineyards, too, and close to Sag Harbor, where we stayed. I highly recommend it!

Best Dining in the Outer Boroughs- HELP!

OK Chowhounders, I desperately need your help for research for a comprehensive blog series I'm doing. I'm new to the city (originally from Long Island- so i'm familiar) and new to chowhound. I'm trying to find the best the outer boroughs has to offer in any type of cuisine and I'm willing to eat anywhere and anything!

To give you a little help, there are a few "must-haves":

Italian (pizza too but definitely want to cover the whole scope of Italian cuisine. Open to more authentic as well as red sauce joints)

Indian

Vietnamese

Anything South American

Filipino

Polish

I'm not really so down with vegetarian places unless they're Indian or absolutely superlative, but the above are sort of "de rigeur"....and I am completely open to any suggestions for any other type of cuisine you think should be included! Thanks so much, I look forward to finding some great spots.
