Cooking pasta-add olive oil or not?

In addition to using a very large pot of water & not overcooking, should olive oil be added to the boiling water to avoid sticky pasta? I've read many pros & cons. Also, should the cooked pasta be rinsed? Advice is greatly appreciated.

Best Place for Pizza in New Haven for Group of 8 Including Kids

I've been to Pepe"s many times with out of town relatives & friends. Never felt pressured to eat & go. Agree that Modern is meh. Zuppardi's is a good choice as well.

What are you making for Mother's Day brunch?

A few of my favorites: Freshly baked croissants with raspberry and /or blueberry preserves, spinach & gruyere quiche, apple-smoked bacon, fresh fruit salad & "Cream sickles" (Blood orange gelato & vanilla bean ice cream) for dessert & Mimosas and good coffee!
Your meu sounds wonderful too, enjoy!

Dinner in Burlington

So glad you enjoyed Leunig's. They tend to get a critical review, but we have always enjoyed it. If you are in the mood for upscale Italian next trip, Trattoria Delia is excellent.

Lenox for Memorial Day Weekend-recs??

Spouse & I just returned from a vacation in Lenox & surrounding area.We had a very nice dinner at Alta, but it was overshadowed by far by dinner at Cranwell Resort. The dining room in a former private mansion (now a hotel) was elegant, service, first rate, without being pretentious and the food was excellent. Wild mushroom & herb tart app. was excelent. Mixed grill with a petit fillet, lamb chop & grilled scallops was perfectly done & the scallops in particular are so flavorful! Chicken Statler, my spouse's favorate also received rave eview (moist & nicely seasoned). Side vegs were perfectly done. For dessert, the apple tart with caramel sauce was special. After dinner, the hostess graciously gave us a mini tour of the premises. Top of the line in Lenox and well worth it for a special time.

LeCreuset frypan question

I have a LeCreuset frypan, circa 1973, in "flame", with a long wooden handle & black interior surface (like a non-stick). I rarely used it in the 70's & haven't since as everything seemed to stick to it. Any one with experience with this pan & any advice?

Family will be in Hancock MA for a few days in mid-August, a mid-point destination to visit with old friends & get to Tanglewood. We do not know the area & need recs for some good (great) spots for lunches/dinners. Will have a car & willing to drive a bit. Open to most types of cuisine. Thanks.
PS: No little kids in the group.

No debate, just an A+ for Pepe's New Haven

We just enjoyed 2 pies from Pepe, a white clam & a sausage/onion/mushroom with mooz. Take out, just needing a brief reheat. Absolutely pefect crust ( my judgment standard) & great taste. Staff on phone & in person were pleasant &professional & pies were ready exactly on time. Worries about their expansion are unfounded, at least as far as home base in New Haven is concerned.

Burlington, Vermont Easter dinner recommendations help!

As a parent of a UVM grad, I heartily endorse Trattoria Delia for a special occasion. Excellent food & service & a treat for impoverished students. Never been to Blue Cat, but why not do the best of both worlds & hit Blue Cat for after dinner dessert, drinks and music.

The Red Parka Steakhouse in Glen, near North Conway has been enjoyable when we have been in Attatash for rugby games. Very good ribs, casual atmosphere, reasonable prices.

Recs for Sunday brunch/lunch in Boston?

The family will be traveling to take our Lexington based son out for a Sunday birthhday brunch/lunch in the Boston area. Will have a car, if needed. Any ideas for something special? We don't get to see him often enough! Very open on cuisine options.
Thanks from mom

Pizza in, or east of, New Haven - but I can't wait 30 minutes to sit down

I don't know your timeframe, but whenever we have been to Pepe's before 5pm, there has not been much of a wait and usually a spot in the parking lot..

New Haven restaurant for Yale undergrads

Press 200 is good, but expensive for American "tapas". My college age kids were stil hungry after a very expensive dinner there and went to Kelly's next door for a burger for dessert.

L'Orcio is wonderful for Italian & then there is Pepe's for pizza for a group! Ibiza is an excellent choice as well.

Burlington: Need Thursday Lunch Spot!

Leunig's Bistro on Church St. gets mixed reviews from foodies. I really enjoy it. Never had a bad meal there and it's a great spot for people watching. American Flatbread is very popular as is A Single Pebble. Enjoy your time in Burlington!

The worst thing, bar none, that you ever did or that ever happened to you in a kitchen"

For me, it was the time I took a very hot roasting pan out of the oven & set it on a plastic cutting board. I checked for doneness and decided it needed a few more minutes. Putting it back in the oven, I failed to notice that the plastic board was stuck to the pan. The plastic melting smell a few minutes later alerted me to what I had done. Needless to say, I destroyed the board & the racks with melted plastic. Thankfully the roast itself survived. Then there was the time I exploded the pressure cooker... Another story & the end of my pressure cooking.

European versus American dishwashers

I love my 4 year old Bosch. I can't comment on customer service as I have yet to need them. The food trap is very easy to empty & reinsert, but I rinse dishes first so there is rarely anything in it.

Your favorite Le Creuset color

My LC pieces are 30+ years old and a color I can oly describe as pumpkin orange. Handles on the large fry pan and some of the pots are wood. Anyone have an idea as to what this color is?
