I grew up in Brooklyn where the local Chinese restaurants prepared Cantonese chicken chow mein really thick and goopy with lots of onions, no mushrooms, strips of chicken, very little celery, and some unidentifiable bits of meat and vegetables on top of pork fried rice. It was usually part of a #7 or #8 combination plate. Now, I'm living in Fort Lauderdale where the chow mein is watery, overcome with celery and accompanied by undercooked fried rice (with peas and carrots in it). Does anyone remember the dish I described and know of a restaurant anywhere in South Florida that prepares it? Thanks for your attention.
