BEST local eats for our first time in Seattle?
I found Ray's through LocalEats. If it's your first trip to Seattle, you should really eat here. It's been around forever and is consistently great! The upstairs is more casual while the downstairs restaurant is more upscale with a constantly changing menu based on local seafood availability. Amazing! http://www.wherethelocalseat.com/Seattle-Restaurants/Rays-Boathouse-Restaurant-and-Cafe-Seattle-WA-WebID-8723.aspx
Vanderbilt Area
Vandy area is a great place for some casual but trendy meals. Go to 21st Ave for Jackson's, Fido, Bosco's, Sam's (perfect for grabbing a beer and watching a game if anything is on while you're there). Belmont Blvd near Vandy has some great places too - PM is great sushi and Bongo Java is a cool coffeehouse. Rumba on West End is also one of my favorites.
Hungry NYer looking for the real deal in Nashville
You're staying in a central part of town and there are actually a lot of restaurants in your near vicinity.
On West End Ave there is Tin Angel which serves both lunch and dinner and is always a spot on great meal. If you like small plates and the best caipirinhas in town, there is Rumba (only serves dinner).
Just off West End is the best steakhouse in the city, Jimmy Kelly's. It's a bit old-school but the steaks are fabulous and it's a fun experience.
Pancake Pantry is one of the most popular breakfast/lunch places in Nashville. There is almost always a line but it moves quickly and they serve you coffee while you wait. The variety of pancakes available can't be beat. Plus it's in Hillsboro Village which is a trendy neighborhood with a bunch of cute shops that you could stop in after lunch. If it's too packed for your liking, walk down the street to either Jackson's or Fido. If it's nice out, Jackson's patio is ideal.
One other suggestion for dinner that is just a cab drive away from West End is Miel. It's right behind the iconic Bobbie's Dairy Dip so you can't miss it.
Most places in Nashville don't require reservations weeks in advance, but at least you can look at some of these websites and decide what you want. I hope you enjoy your stay and have some great meals while you're here.
Ideas for good, local eats in Ann Arbor/Detroit?
A good resource for finding local restaurants is www.wherethelocalseat.com. It's a restaurant guide website and phone application that recommends local, nonchain restaurants. If you're using the application, you can press "near me" to see a list of restaurants that the editors suggest in your specific area. Or online you can type the actual address of your hotel, zip code, city, etc and search for restaurants that way. Most reviews have a link to the actual restaurant website so you can take a look at the menu and determine if you like what you see. I like it because it's a simple format that makes it easy to decide where to eat. Enjoy your getaway!
Dining Apps for the iPhone
I just got an iphone and am looking for some good dining apps. I downloaded Yelp and Urban Spoon because they were free but am not extremely satisfied with either one. Then I paid $9.99 for Zagat to Go and don't think that it's worth the money. In Nashville and Memphis, they only review a few chains. I think some of the problem I have with Urban Spoon and Yelp is that there are too many listings to sift through. So then I downloaded LocalEats for $0.99 - love this app. Interface is simple, plus they have a coupon for one of my favorite Memphis restaurants, Central BBQ. I'm still learning all of the apps, so what others should I know about for dining?
